Slippery slope arguments are fine, but lets put this in context:
They sent her a letter informing her of this/called her. The administration alone cost money.
Why don't we add up all the penny's and dollars that costs insurance companies too, eh? It's a fucking penny. A fucking penny. It was not worth informing about, worrying her about, or even bothering to look at paperwork for.
That.
That is what is stupid.
So before any more smart-asses make stupid comments about 'penny's count'. They don't. Not in human consideration, not in financial consideration.
The medical system was funded by the taxes we all pay that was more my point when I said your parents had paid for it already and all you said was "it was free" and I was more stating it for people who maybe didn't know we paid higher tax to compensate though I am sure no one here was stupid enough to not know that. Our system is miles from being perfect and the same goes for the system in the US, we shouldn't bother gloating about the NHS but this is from my personal experience that I feel so negatively about the NHS even if it has positive points. That's all I'm going to bother leaving it at because we both seem pretty dead set in our views, and that's cool.
A free health care system is not free. We all know this. Stop going on about it.
What it DOES do, however, is remove the strain, worry and financial burden from the individual. Nobody has to worry about cost or coverage when they're ill or have an accident.

A penny saved is a penny earned.
:fsmug:
I think it would be better that for a certain amount (like a dollar or so) if you underpaid, they would send you a letter letting you know of such and that you would have to make up that premium on the next bill (or earlier). But if you do it too much they can remove coverage.
Seems fair, and it also protects from lawsuits, because it's not an 'exception'.
A penny saved is a penny earned.
:fsmug:
Well fuck you insurance company
The one reason I would not want to live in America is because of the health care system, it is not engineered to treat people, its engineered to take as much money from them as is possible.
capitalism
The even sadder part is many people wish the system to stay like that.
Disgusting.
The people who want it to stay that way are the CEOs of the Insurance companies.
capitalism
The most beautiful thing on earth.
So what if everyone just forgets 1 cent on their next bill?
A bill is a fucking bill. It's not an estimate.
[editline]07:08PM[/editline]
ya so lets just deduct 1 penny from every persons premium
and then lets deduct another penny from that because that penny doesnt matter either
Do that about 98 more times because those pennies don't matter
whoops now its a dollar gone. Meh it's just a dollar whatever.
Do you get the point now? Where the fuck do you stop with the whole "It's just a penny" mentality.
Except it costs more than a penny to send the letter to her.
Even if she was insured, she's still getting anally raped for everything she's worth. The entire point of cancer treatment is to bleed you and your insurance dry while keeping you complacent until you pass away eventually and some other sad sack comes and takes your place on the milking line.
I still firmly believe there won't be a cure for cancer ever due to how much more profitable it is for Big Pharma to simply treat it.
Except it costs more than a penny to send the letter to her.
You're missing the point.

lol
fuck insurance companies
their sole purpose is to maximize their profit
This is sort of a bad example of how insurance companies are corrupt.
She underpaid by a cent, meaning she didn't pay her premium, meaning they have no obligation to provide her insurance which she legally didn't fully pay for.
It's an dick move, but it's not like they pulled her insurance for no reason.
Fuck then I better move to Canada.
Or cross the border and use a Canadian Citizens MSI card to take advantage of our system.
[editline]12:21AM[/editline]
Fuck I hate how this shit happens so much
fuck insurance companies
their sole purpose is to maximize their profit
Isn't that the goal of all companies?
You guys post the most redundant shit and try to sound like it's something new.
The one reason I would not want to live in America is because of the health care system, it is not engineered to treat people, its engineered to take as much money from them as is possible.
It's also engineered so they don't pay out as much as possible when they're supposed to, and companies even have their own detectives that try to find any reason at all to not pay out for someone when the time comes, but gladly takes your monthly payment
This is why most insurance is bullshit, but everyone knows this.
Isn't that the goal of all companies?

so you're gonna be an apologist for health insurance companies who contribute to people dying?
just another reason why the US should adopt national health care. it is simply about maximizing profits as of now.

How what happens so much? People don't pay their bills?
You guys post the most redundant shit and try to sound like it's something new.
holy shit, someone posting opinions on a forum? what are we gonna do
[editline]11:28PM[/editline]
How what happens so much? People don't pay their bills?
she miscalculated it by a cent you idiot. it was a simple mistake.
they could have at least kept her coverage and gave her a deadline to make the one cent up
How what happens so much? People don't pay their bills?
That people get gouged by HMOs at every turn
How what happens so much?
insurance companies dropping people over every little thing they can to maximize profits. do you honestly think there is nothing wrong with that when someone's life is on the line
Fucking hell, you guys have been fighting over two different points tl_goose has been saying that she still underpaid and therefore should not get coverage and then the rest of you are just saying that the US health care system sucks
so you're gonna be an apologist for health insurance companies?
just another reason why the US should adopt national health care. it is simply about maximizing profits as of now.
No I'm going to be a person with a brain and realize that a company is something that provides a service in return for payment.
The higher quality their service, the higher the payment.
They aren't a fucking charity, and it's always been about maximizing profits. Companies aren't fucking evil, the people who work for them have families and have worked their way up in life. You act like they purposely fucked this lady over. Is it their fault this lady underpaid her fucking premium? No, it's her fault. All she has to do is send in the god damn 1 cent and she will be re-insured. What the fuck is the big deal? If all their clients just "forgot" to pay 1 cent they would lose a ton of money. That why that can't make exceptions and they can't even pay 1 cent for this lady.
Does any of this make sense to you? Or do you still have your head so far up your ass you think this lady is completely innocent and this company wants her to die?
I've heard of nickel-and-diming but this is ridiculous.
insurance companies dropping people over every little thing they can to maximize profits. do you honestly think there is nothing wrong with that when someone's life is on the line
Uhm being dropped because you can't pay your fucking bills is not "maximizing profits", it's "you can't pay your bills so we can't provide you services because that requires a certain amount of money and you can't provide that"

Has it maybe occurred to you that the biased source maybe isn't telling the whole truth? She probably missed her deadline.
