They can NOT choose their gender identity, and just because you think they can doesn't make it so. It is NOT a choice. And in order to qualify for a sex change operation, it is a NECESSITY that they dress as the sex they want to be for a period of twelve months. So get the fuck out.

How come everything else genetically isn't a choice but gender is? Maybe one day biological sex will be a choice, but that is external, as is race.

Those definitions while based on biology are also based on social norms. If we just stuck to the biological means of determining gender, then the problem wouldn't be so much what a male "truly" is but more of how comfortable you are being one. Your argument is that no matter what body you're born in, that is not gender. My rebuttal is that yes you have a physical gender with which one identifies quickly, but in the case of transgenders their mental preset is not actually the same so therefore they do not match their physical self. With this day and age where changing genders is accomplished relatively easily(still some hiccups) we need not worry about marking genders based on social norms because it is easy to switch to another gender. However remainders in society still look down on this act.
