yes which is why gender is a choice. if you are a male but believe you are a female, nobody can tell you that you are a male. you have freedom of choice
That's not freedom of choice it's freedom of not having it chosen for you
That's not freedom of choice it's freedom of not having it chosen for you
freedom of not having it chosen for you is freedom of choice
Damn, should've just posted the rest of it separately :smith:
freedom of not having it chosen for you is freedom of choice
But in your scenario that person didn't choose to identify as a female so it wasn't a choice
The only choice is the decision to ignore people telling you that you're what you aren't
he's right when it comes to this, swilly
I wasn't saying he's wrong.
But in your scenario that person didn't choose to identify as a female so it wasn't a choice
yes he did. he became aware of what a male is and what a female is and decided that he is a female rather than a male
yes he did. he became aware of what a male is and what a female is and decided that he is a female rather than a male
.....that sounds an awful lot like coming out the closet scenario :v:
Person One realizes that he is not A but is actually B.

I'm talking about very early stages of childhood. you aren't born into a gender. people tell you what gender you are and you are capable of rejecting that
I'm talking about very early stages of childhood. you aren't born into a gender. people tell you what gender you are and you are capable of rejecting that
I know, just sounds like it.

I think you begin learning of those and forming an identity before you're consciously aware of what's happening
It's not like a choice you can come to in one weekend when you're 28 or something
It's not like a choice you can come to in one weekend when you're 28 or something
that's not what I meant anyway
a gender identity is something you form as life goes on. it's not something that you're born with nor is it something that people can force on you

Sudden realization on the toilet?
"Wait a second....I DON'T WANT A PENIS!"
that's not what I meant anyway

But neither of those makes it a conscious choice and that was my point this entire time
Sudden realization on the toilet?

that's transsexualism but okay
But neither of those makes it a conscious choice and that was my point this entire time
It slowly sounding like my theory of sexuality which has no proof really so it doesn't count.
:sigh:
I should start working on getting proof for that.

Joke :v:
But neither of those makes it a conscious choice and that was my point this entire time
how is it not a conscious choice if it's not something you're born with and not something that can be forced on you? what is your idea of a conscious choice?
how is it not a conscious choice if it's not something you're born with and not something that can be forced on you? what is your idea of a conscious choice?
Whether or not I should go to sleep.

- What to wear in the morning
- What to put on my toast
- Whether I'll shave before or after I shower
Those are choices, something that happens subconsciously in the first several years of your life isn't a choice
This is almost as bad as that random attack in the D.C. Metro earlier this year.
First thing I thought of when I read the article.
it's a subconscious choice then. happy?
it's a subconscious choice then. happy?
As much of a choice as your dreams are, sure
As much of a choice as your dreams are, sure
so you literally can't get fed up with gender roles one day and decide to change your gender identity or drop it altogether?
dancing around meaningless semantics is exhausting
As much of a choice as your dreams are, sure
But I can change my dream :smith:

If you drop it altogether I believe you just stop caring and live your life with the gender you have been given good sir.

By the time you're old enough to have this discussion your gender identity is already too deeply ingrained to make that change
By the time you're old enough to have this discussion your gender identity is already too deeply ingrained to make that change
Again, why not?
By the time you're old enough to have this discussion your gender identity is already too deeply ingrained to make that change
that would be true is gender wasn't a concept
that would be true is gender wasn't a concept
well if you want to change your gender identity right now and prove me wrong I'm open to it
well not now, I'm going to bed now, I'll be open tomorrow
there is literally nothing stopping me from deciding that I'm a female tomorrow. your argument is completely invalid
there is literally nothing stopping me from deciding that I'm a female tomorrow. your argument is completely invalid
It's like that mental illness where people try to cut off their own limbs because for some reason they have an overpowering feeling that they should not have them. It's not a choice, and it's not even purely psychological.
and it's not even purely psychological.
yes it is
