It seems to be in my understanding that normally before civilisation the male was the one who hunted and protected his family, and the female whom cared for the offspring. Any other groups of people minus your own would be deemed a threat and prejudice was used to estimate generally if something was going to harm you are not. These traits still exist with humans, they are genetic and the only way to fix this is Eugenics pretty much.
