ITT: Atheists being mad
I dunno. not sure why Justin Bieber's in there either
Because he makes terrible music and is a christian which gets my panties in such a massive twist!
ITT: Atheists being mad
Yes they sure are mad. This is true.
Not sure why though. I have no idea.

Uses his belief to justify an anti-abortion opinion, and because he is loved by cubic-fuck-tons of little girls this is damaging.

I'm not sure he really knows what the fuck he's doing, considering he said it when he was 16
[Bieber] does have a solid opinion on abortion. "I really don't believe in abortion," Bieber says. "It's like killing a baby?" How about in cases of rape? "Um. Well, I think that's really sad, but everything happens for a reason. I guess I haven't been in that position, so I wouldn't be able to judge that."
but that is pretty horrendous. did not know that.
wait until /r/atheism gets a hold of this

Not trying to make a hurr derr superior comment but non-religious agnostic-atheists do not have anything to fall back on, they have to justify there beliefs without gods word.
One reason why they are more left in politics.
If I have an opinion that is not justifiable I either have to admit it or drop it or both.

How is that strawman going?

Religion is responsible for stopping the question why and being a scapegoat.
Muslims are really offended by physical depictions of Mohammad, I cant remember exactly why, but he isn't meant to be record in that way, so he isn't embellish/altered and such. It is nearly on the level of burning a holy book.
Not just Mohammed, humans in general. It's their belief that humanity may only be created by Allah and to attempt it yourself is heretical.
Yeah, it's really dumb.
People in this thread clearly fail to grasp why the Muslim was enraged. He was enraged because disrespecting what he believes in is disrespecting him, and an offense he couldn't bear. This entire case is stupid, but anyone who sympathizes with the Atheist jackass who deliberately tried to piss people off is also stupid.

This is like spitting on someone and then whining about it when you get punched in the face and have your lunch money taken in return.
If the man wants to dress up like Mohammed and say he is a zombie he has EVERY GODDAMN RIGHT TO.
If you think he's being a jackass then so fucking be it, but if you want to say someone is legally in the right for assaulting him, you need to get that metal bar out of your skull.
Get educated please.
Perce can be seen wearing a long fake beard, a white turban and green face paint, calling out provocative phrases like: "I am the prophet Mohammed! Zombie from the dead!"

“grabbed me, choked me from the back, and spun me around, to try to get my sign off that was wrapped around my neck."
if you think these are equal crimes then you're wronger than both of them put together.
if it was an atheist assaulting a someone for preaching islam you guys would be totally for it hurr durr
you guys are hypocrites, and i know that you guys are hypocrites because i think youre all hypocrites
Good thing I only insult people who are willingly ignorant
Just because they believe in something you think is false doesn't grant you the right to be an outright dick to them. You're not ~~edgy~~ or witty for insulting someone that believes in a religion, grow the fuck up. I'm an Atheist I despise people like you.

No it's because we are not a hive mind.
Just because they believe in something you think is false doesn't grant you the right to be an outright dick to them.
It does, actually. Sorry to inform you of this but people have the right to mock your beliefs.
And this, my friends, is why we must cut the strings of religion's influence on everything in the government. Even though the victim had the right to be yelled out, if the judge didn't vote on that religious part, they would look at the clues and everything and put a fair end to it. The law shouldn't be based on religion, nor should the government, unless we want to go back to the Dark Ages where if you aren't a part of one religion, you are better off dead...
However, walking around in a costume specifically designed to piss people off?
The atheist deserved what he got, regardless of the ruling being fair or not.
Fuck you. If you can't handle people making fun of you or your religion, for the love of god, stay in whatever backwater country you call home.
It does, actually. Sorry to inform you of this but people have the right to mock your beliefs.
Just because you have the right doesn't mean you should. Just makes you look like an ass and makes the sane and non ass hole atheists look bad.
Atheist is a dick. Learn to keep your internal monologue internal.
Muslim is a dick. Learn to not fucking attack people over words.
Judge is worse, he's not doing his job impartially. Assault is assault.
I do not agree with Mr. Perce's method of speaking his beliefs; regardless, this was a poorly handled case and frankly I am not surprised to see [the situation] occur. To say the atheist 'got what he deserved' is stupid as he was well within his right to speak his beliefs. If he had been belligerent or had been doing something else that would be harmful to people (say, throwing something or pushing people) it would be another matter. Mr. Elbayomy could have handled his side of the situation amicably- even if the man refused to appeal to the Talaag's sensitivity, he could either leave or ask if Perce at least do it elsewhere. The judge should have recused himself as per a possible bias being a Muslim convert. The three of them are all at fault of something.
Mr. Elbayomy get some form of punishment for harassment- as was the initial charge. I may not like what Mr. Perce was saying but, legally, he has done nothing wrong (unless it is argue and backed by evidence that he was provocative. Thus far evidence is to the contrary).
Just because you have the right doesn't mean you should. Just makes you look like an ass and makes the sane and non ass hole atheists look bad.
True. But being an asshole isn't particularly a crime.
Just because you have the right doesn't mean you should. Just makes you look like an ass and makes the sane and non ass hole atheists look bad.
It only makes all people of the same group look bad in the eyes of ignorant idiots who can't differentiate a person from a group. I don't mind being an asshole in eyes of stupid people.
It does, actually. Sorry to inform you of this but people have the right to mock your beliefs.
Fine, just because they believe in something you think is false doesn't mean you have to be an asshole to them.
Just because you have the right doesn't mean you should. Just makes you look like an ass and makes the sane and non ass hole atheists look bad.
except islam, and religion as a whole is a clear and present danger to Western civilisation, so we have every reason to attack it on all fronts
Fine, just because they believe in something you think is false doesn't mean you have to be an asshole to them.
Yes, you don't have to, but you have the rights to.
Fine, just because they believe in something you think is false doesn't mean you have to be an asshole to them.
The point is, you are legally allowed to be an asshole to someone. You are not, however, legally allowed to assault someone for being an asshole. This case was a failure of the justice system.
"I think our forefathers intended that we use the First Amendment so that we can speak our mind, not to piss off other people and other cultures, which is what you did."
actually that's kind of the whole point of the first amendment, to protect unpopular speech.

There are many views on that particular issue. It is generally accepted that one may not draw/sculpt a human being in order to glorify them, however.
Am I the only one who doesn't judge anyone because of their beliefs or ideologies? Hell, if I met a National Socialist I wouldn't mind as long as he behaved well. Same goes for Muslims, Republicans or any other relevant groups. To me it's the individual that counts, and afaik there are "good" and "bad" people in all groups.
Fine, just because they believe in something you think is false doesn't mean you have to be an asshole to them.
Great and all but that's not really relevant to whether or not it's okay to assault someone and whether the case should have been thrown out
