nah the dude's atheist, he's just being retarded about it. if you believe in a god, you're a theist. if you don't explicitly believe in a god, you're atheist. if you think there's no way to prove that there is a god, you're agnostic. if you think you know whether god exists or not, you're gnostic.
so he's an agnostic atheist. it's incredibly simple:

you know someone's talking plain shit when they say "I'm not atheist, I'm agnostic"
"Gnosticism is a modern scholarly term for a set of religious beliefs and spiritual practices found among some of the early Christian sects called "gnostic""
Atheism is the lack of belief in an individual.
Agnosticism is the belief you cannot know whether there is a god or not.
Theism is belief in a specific deity.
Gnosticism is an ancient christian sect.
There's no slider between them. They are clearly defined boundaries.
Also why is gnosticism there that's retarded.
I don't blame the guy for choking him, I respect people's beliefs athiest or not but there is absolutely no need to go that far.
except islam, and religion as a whole is a clear and present danger to Western civilisation, so we have every reason to attack it on all fronts
lol, religion isn't the danger.
people are.
lol, religion isn't the danger.
people are.
To be more precise, extremists.

Gnosticism there refers to the idea that whether a god exists or not can be known. It's the basis for the name of the sect.
Oct 11 2011 in the Mechanicsburg City Parade I was attacked by a violent muslim IN AMERICA! This is proof that muslims want Shria Law in America.
From video description.
Wow I hate the victim, perpetrator, and the judge, that's gotta be some kind of record.
lol, religion isn't the danger.

oh come on
religion legitimises this kind of behaviour
of course if religion were to be eradicated overnight it wouldn't solve all our problems but it would still solve a fuckload of them
you can say "X isn't the problem, people are" and everyone will nod in agreement at such sage words, but if you actually look at it, it has objectively less informational content and thus is less useful. "people are bad" is about as devoid of useful meaning as you can get

Thanks for enlightening me.
[sub]not sarcasm even though it sounds like it D:[/sub]

absolutely not.
people take their dumb opinions and ideas and fit the religion around it, not the other way around
To be more precise, extremists.
greed and bigotry is unfortunately not that extreme of an idea in society.
This is dumb.
The guy who attacked him shoulda been charged for assault. Sure he was acting like a fucking retard but that's still covered under the first amendment. Physically attacking people isn't.
I like the way people are rating me dumb because they know I'm right. I'm going to dress up in a Charles Darwin costume and wear a big banner that says "CHARLES DARWIN: THE ORIGINAL SCIENTIFIC CON ARTIST" and parade around in it. Hey, it's FREEDOM of EXPRESSION!
No one will be offended and you'll get laughed at.
absolutely not.

so can I join a religion about homeopathy or astrology or quantum healing or libertarianism?
yes these things attract idiots around them like gas around a new star, but the difference is that religion is a particularly dangerous and potent subset of these because it also combines a prescriptive way of living your entire life along with the kooky belief.
plus there's the sheer number of followers. if you're looking at high-return investments in the future of human sanity, attacking religion is your best bet
I've served close to 27 years in the military - and have gone overseas - exactly to preserve that right [freedom of speech.]
so what made you want to attack it when you got back
I just happened to pick a costume that scared adults too!
Oh please, go fuck yourself.
so can I join a religion about homeopathy or astrology or quantum healing or libertarianism?
sure you can do whatever the fuck you want

except it doesn't.
the religion isn't going to kill you or ostracize you from society, people are. and the horrible wacky customs of the middle east existed far before any conception of Islam did.
this is stupid, if it were turned around the other way it'd be a fucking hate crime
I rated dumb because Atheism is not a religious belief.
True. But being an asshole isn't particularly a crime.
Well no of course not, but everyone here is at fault a little bit. The Atheist shouldn't be such an obnoxious ass about his beliefs( or lack there of), the Muslim shouldn't be so extreme of his, and the judge should find a new job.
The real case is about assault, not freedom of speech. You can't just like, attack people.
I rated dumb because Atheism is not a religious belief.
He was criticized by the judge for offending other people's religious beliefs.
this is stupid, if it were turned around the other way it'd be a fucking hate crime
No, attacking a Muslim is perfectly acceptable too I'm sure.
As long as they aren't Protestants who cares right?
except it doesn't.

misguided economic policies didn't cause the recession, people did!
nazism didn't butcher millions of civilians, people did!
religion isn't persecuting gays and atheists, flying planes into buildings and pushing for creationism in science classroms, people are!
this is like bizarro-reductionism
I love how everyones going, 'the atheist was an asshole'. First of all; freedom of speech. Second of all, whether or not he was an asshole, assault is fucking illegal. No one was legally at fault except the muslim.
I love how everyones going, 'the atheist was an asshole'. First of all; freedom of speech. Second of all, whether or not he was an asshole, assault is fucking illegal. No one was legally at fault except the muslim.
Doesn't mean we're not allowed to call him an asshole.

we know
just pointing out he's an asshole, separate from our beliefs on the case
so can I join a religion about homeopathy or astrology or quantum healing or libertarianism?
Here's Astrology and Quantum Healing for you. I'm not familiar with what ideals Libertarianism holds to, but it sounds a bit like this based on a brief skimming of Wikipedia's page for it.

no it's simple logic.
if you really think that the Holocaust happened because someone invented the term Nazism then you are completely misguided and historically ignorant.
Ultimately, unless you believe that religion and the concepts behind them are super-natural, religion comes from the ideas put forward by people.
In a YouTube video he posted, Perce can be seen wearing a long fake beard, a white turban and green face paint, calling out provocative phrases like: "I am the prophet Mohammed! Zombie from the dead!" Perce and someone else in a zombie-themed pope costume are carrying a banner that reads "The Parading Atheists of Central Pennsylvania / Ghoulish – Godless – God-Awful."
Okay that is provoking someone, which is not protected under freedom of speech. I don't think the ruling was unjust, if the news article was "Westburro baptist church member punched by atheist at protest of soldiers death, case dropped" the thread would be completely backwards, it is all point of view but those people were obviously provoking hate.
Not an asshole, just making a religiously themed zombie walk

Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Just because you have the right to be an obnoxious prick doesn't mean you should.
