Dep of Education definitely needs a reform but abolishing it entirely is probably a terrible idea.
The Department of Education has "definitely needed reform" since it was founded. Removing it or severely paring it down is one of Trumps least-bad policies. His support for school vouchers is about a million times more harmful to education in America than this. [editline]11th November 2016[/editline]
This has nothing to do with privatizing schools. It just moves the power to the states. I've worked in my local school district at a fairly high level dealing with Ed. Code application and the like. Federal involvement gets in the way in basically every single way.
oh cool I agree with sgman91 on something. basically every educator I've talked to about federal education standards has said that the shift from conservative to liberal policies (see: NCLB to Common Core) has been varying degrees of two steps forward and two steps back.
Nothing is coming to light. He said this months ago. Now people are reacting as if Trump has said this recently, therefore revealing that they didn't read the article. Even the snippet in the OP answers your question: And this was also in the article:
For one, the fact many people were unaware of this is hands down proof that its new information coming to light. And congress is part of the federal government, soooo . . . The DoE is a good thing, it keeps states in line (especially the ones that love to push religious discrimination in schools)
Privatizing schools is the worst that could happen to our children at the moment. Imagine going to school for all of your early childhood and once you reach 18, you have to pay off all of it. We would be a third world country if that happens. This is beyond retarded. Poor can't afford schools so they dont get educated. With our jobs at the moment with the requirements, No one poor can get a job. I cannot handle this.
Also, at the education level, where you (a child) live can end up mattering and absolutely affecting your employ-ability, for better or worse. He has said that education in its entirety should be handled at the local level. Local means religiously controlled, under a loose and selective interpretation of canon law in many areas. Your education, as agreed upon by the local governing bodies, may not be compatible with college narratives or methodology, and may be in fact non-transferable to other states (or even areas) due to he inherent and insurmountable differences with integrating children from schools which vastly and fundamentally disagree on what is true. Expect a new rise of revisionist history in which the embarrassing narratives are purged and the ones they are most proud of cover the whole page. Recently correctly identified pogroms committed by the white populations will again be narrated as quelled rebellions and uprisings, and children will never be given the option to understand that they are being lied to before they are indoctrinated. Who knows, maybe what happened at Stonewall will feature armed gays in an uprising some-day, with heroic Americans coming to save the city from the homosexual uprising. The winners do get to decide history, after all.
Out of all the fucking things you could ever cut education
Our miserable education system is how he was elected in the first place. It was a close election though and now he is just trying to lock up that next go.
He relied on the uneducated to get elected though
Way to generalise over half the population of the USA. While you are at it all who support Trump are probably Racists, misogynists and sexists tool? Best way to make a point to someone is insult them. That's how Hilary won. Oh wait she didn't
remember how good state mandated curriculum goes? There's no solution that is good in every way. To point out one issue does basically nothing to further the conversation without comparing and contrasting the positives and negatives with both.
This has nothing to do with privatizing schools. It just moves the power to the states. I've worked in my local school district at a fairly high level dealing with Ed. Code application and the like. Federal involvement gets in the way in basically every single way.
There are several states that cannot keep their schools open without federal funding and intervention, like Kansas (thanks, Brownback) Also this will guarantee that we get a generation of anti-intellectuals when we have creationists and their ilk pushing their beliefs onto statewide education, as has been the case before (again, Kansas, banning teaching of evolution for like 2 years)
Way to generalise over half the population of the USA. While you are at it all who support Trump are probably Racists, misogynists and sexists tool? Best way to make a point to someone is insult them. That's how Hilary won. Oh wait she didn't
you do realize that if you read the entire quote of what she said, she said that half are people genuinely screwed over by the economy and big businesses, while around half are actual deplorables. and you can't deny that with all the shit that was going on during his run for presidency.
In a nation of ditch diggers, the conman is king. Encourage education at all ages. Never stop learning, stay two steps ahead of those who dream themselves your master.
Out of all the fucking things you could ever cut education
well, trump managed to be elected president without any, so i understand why he might not see it as necessary
well, trump managed to be elected president without any, so i understand why he might not see it as necessary
He has a bachelor's degree.
He has a bachelor's degree.
i am aware that trump has probably been in school at some point, i was making a joke at his expense because i'm not very fond of him
He has a bachelor's degree.
And I have a first class Masters. But that doesn't mean I know how to run a country. The man is uneducated on the topic of politics, having never held any form of office before. He's categorically uneducated in the field he's insisting on working in. The closest he's come to politics is paying off politicians (which he freely admitted to during a primary debate).
privatizing is always good then its someones name on the plate and not just some public state school people work harder that way
privatizing is always good then its someones name on the plate and not just some public state school people work harder that way
agree, me too love people getting burn out and sick /s
agree, me too love people getting burn out and sick /s
if they burn out because they do their job then maybe just maybe they are not suited to do the job to start with
if they burn out because they do their job then maybe just maybe they are not suited to do the job to start with
nope you're deluded if you think jobs can't mistreat their employees, and don't try to at every opportunity.
privatizing is always good then its someones name on the plate and not just some public state school people work harder that way
That... really only applies if it's their own name or the person in question genuinely cares about providing a good service more than financial gain. As far as privatising education goes, I'm not sure I've seen a single instance where that ever worked out as intended. Usually it just massively hikes up the cost for students, if they can afford it at all.
privatizing is always good then its someones name on the plate and not just some public state school people work harder that way
sure, lets completely privatize education, so that the lower class kids aren't able to properly go to school, or end up having to pay debt for most of their lives, for practically no upside to them compared to public school.
Besides, you can 'put someone's name on the plate' or associate someone's image with the institution's success just fine even if the school is public. It's really common here in some way or other. It makes just about no difference whatsoever.
Privatization most often leads to horrific abuses. You cannot trust corporations, they have proven time and time again that they are venomous sons of bitches who will kill you to make an extra cent of profit.
if they burn out because they do their job then maybe just maybe they are not suited to do the job to start with
Or maybe you just have no idea what you're talking about and have never worked a demanding job before in your life. Considering the number of people who suffer from burnout, that seems more likely.
being forced to pay for education is fucking criminally terrible
I thought we do that technically for public schools through taxes. Private schools is just spending more directly to the school.
Quite frankly, the only reason I see why anyone would want to dismantle our education system would be expressly to dumb down the country's population.
Never understood why education is a federal jurisdiction in the U.S., maybe that's because I'm Canadian.
Education standards - making sure some common sense things are taught. Even so, there are still issues. There are several educational "jurisdictions". Some American states are notorious for attempting to change the way that their students learn about history. Attempting to establish standards for how mathematics are taught, etc
Got to hold on for 4 more years and we can vote this fuck out of office.
