They paid $22 million in income taxes. it reduced their net income from 86 to 59 million. I really wish people would stop making assumptions without taking five minutes to look something up.
Forget Papa Johns, and all other thick-trust sheepzas (Sheep Pizza, pizza for SHEEP PEOPLE!).
Buy thin crust, St. Louis style pizza. Sweet sauce and provel cheese, ultra thin crust, crispy and wonderful.
Just look at it, and tell me you'd rather have Papa Johns.

vs. the most boring and unappealing pizza you've ever seen:

I get Papa Johns for five bucks a pizza as part of my work-perks from the hotel, and I'd still rather cough up $15 to get some Stefanina's, or any other St Louis Style Master 'Za.
The bottom one looks like the picture was taken with a cellphone camera with wax paper taped over all the light sources.
It seems kind of unfair to single them out like this when TONS of business have had to lay off and cut employee benefits due to Obamacare.
Of course, that's something most media outlets try to keep covered up.

People are also apparently in denial about the idea that mandatory health coverage actually costs money.

Well, being a big corporation I can understand some hatred since Papa Johns has money to spare.
But the same thing is happening with businesses who already had a very small profit margin.

Which is fine and dandy except as I posted above, only 4.6% of 2011's revenues made it into Net Income, the rest was expensed. That's not a very big margin, so it's understandable for a company to be concerned about rising costs.
Plus, John Schnatter didn't even say he was laying anyone off, he said franchise owners might. Which is small business owners. So I don't even know why people are mad.

Yes, they try to keep it covered up which is why this is in the news
Yes, they try to keep it covered up which is why this is in the news
They're being singled out to make it look like there's just these few nutjub companies trying to make a political stance.
Truth of the matter is, about every business that you involve yourself with these days is probably doing the same thing. Some of it being more necessary than others though.
i'm starting to wonder how many companies are doing shit like this because they legitimately can't due to obamacare or because they just want to say 'fuck you'
one of the companies I work for is consistently making a profit of less than $1000 a month due to large amounts of waste and underselling the products. The owners simply aren't taking paychecks more often than not. There really isn't any place we can cut back on and the owners are too afraid to raise the prices. It's probably going to go under as a result of Obamacare.
And we're actually doing better than the local competition, who are probably going to also have to close shop soon. I'm just hoping that our shop is last to go under so we can scoop up everyone else's business and get back to making a profit.
I'm not ordering for Papa John's anymore in that case. I'll keep ordering from Dominoes and Pizza Hut. Dominoes is pretty affordable and tasty.
Nah man. Don't go Dominoes. Romney owns it.

well of course a plain cheese pizza is going to look unappealing
nothing beats pepperoni, italian sausage, and catalina on a pizza
Well, looks like I'll be getting my Pizza from elsewhere.
Good thing there's no Papa John's near me, only a Papa Ginos somewhere and a whole bunch of great local pizzerias.

Never had catalina but a thin crust pepperoni and sausage with special seasoning always made my night when I ordered it.
also papa johns has the best pizza and I'm going to indulge my tastebuds in it whether you like it or not
Also, here's an interesting quirk. Clicking the link in the op mentioning the increasing cost of pizzas takes you here. Clicking the highlighted link on that page takes you here. On the second link, it doesn't say customers pay an extra $.11 to .14, it says
Schnatter estimates that the Health Care Act, set to go into effect in 2014, will cost the company about 11 to 14 cents per pizza or 15 to 20 cents per order.
Now that may very well mean the cost is passed on to the consumer but it doesn't seem to explicitly state that in HuffPo's own source.
also papa johns has the best pizza and I'm going to indulge my tastebuds in it whether you like it or not
Might as well since most other ones have and will have to do similar things.
It's kind of sad to see people buying into this and thinking boycotting any of these places singled out makes any difference.
I don't know about over there, but Pizza Hut here in the UK is fucking delicious and always seems to come looking as tasty as it does in their adverts.
Pizza Hut is delicious, pity about the price.
That and Singapore has Canadian Pizza 2 for the price of 1 for approx US$12

Papa John's is a publicly traded company, not a sole-proprietorship.
Darden's Restaurants are also problem going to do this.

The article links to the HuffPo article that took Schnatter's words out of context. I don't trust the HuffPo article for a split second.

kentucky
"papa john" is like the name of an old guy in italy that invented pizza or some shit not "some dude in kentucky"
fuck it's like next you're gonna tell me santa ain't real
Rather than just charge an extra 11 to 14 cents per pizza, he'd rather cut employee hours and thus their wages?
Makes sense to me

He never said he'd do that, according to the OP's source's source.
way to go, 99% of r/politics already vowed to boycott applebee's because of that misinformation.
People boycott Applebees for being shit anyways.
bottom looks better simply because flat crust pizza is vomitrocious*
*[sp]in my opinion :)[/sp]
You sick bastard
Flat/thin crust pizza master race
I like how people are debating which pizza is better in this thread.
Whatever, the new pan pizza Dominoes has is delicious and cheap. So up yours Papa Johns!
I prefer Dominos, Pizza Hut, or Godfather's over garbage Papa Johns anyways.
i get my pizza from a local shop that charges 15 bucks for 3 pizzas and breadsticks
fuck papa johns lol
every tuesday at my apartment area pizza hut sets up a tent in front with 5 dollar pizzas.
Pretty convenient to grab on the way home.

Don't hurt me but, Bottom looks so much better cause it doesn't have anything but cheese and sauce on it... Im a purist when it comes to pizza.
