I'm just going to give her the benefit of the doubt and assume she was referring to the Czech Republic and/or Slovakia. Not that either one is a key ally, but it's still a pretty common mistake (at least in the United States, especially with people who lived before and during the dissolution) to refer to the two areas as Czechoslovakia. If she did actually mean Czechoslovakia, she probably shouldn't be working in journalism.
