Damn cops. I hope she wins the case; five kids is a helluva drain on the pockets, and $12k could help give 'em higher standards of living for a time.

Or she could just bring it to the bank and collect interest, and only withdraw it when she needs it. I wouldn't go spending it all so I could have "higher standards of living" for some time. Rather save it so in case something happens, I have money to cover it.

Reporting it makes sense. It's a very large sum that you rarely get in tips. What if the money was counterfeit?

Did the good thing and handed it to my parents, who handed it into the police. I had completely forgotten about it when 3 months later the cops called and told me to come pick it up. I still have the evidence envelope it came in. How many stories have you heard, exactly?

I would keep it, maybe half of it, then report it. But either way, this makes the cops look really bad.

Leaving 12k as a tip is kind of sketchy... Could it have been money that was involved in illegal activity and the lady just left it as a tip to get it off of her hands?
