Accepts recruits with possible mental illness. Bans gays and transsexuals from military. Bravo, US, you left your common sense somewhere.
No no, see, Conservatives think homosexuality and transgenderism are mental illnesses, so this would allow them to join anyway! It's a good thing:hiddendowns:
Wait, hold on, they tried to ban transgender people from military and the main argument for that was mental instability of transgender folk and now they just... EHH???
Wait, hold on, they tried to ban transgender people from military and the main argument for that was mental instability of transgender folk and now they just... EHH???
The army is not the President. Mattis and other top brass were against the transgender ban.
If you want more recruits then make it more enticing? I hope that the MOS's they're allowed to choose from are severely restricted. Stuff like 67T's and shit. If they're allowed on the front lines you're probably going to have an even worse time recruiting people. I sure as shit wouldn't volunteer to fight knowing my battle buddy hears voices in his head
battle buddies hears voices in his head
This is not what mental illness is, likely for a majority of people who suffer from it.
Considering this is a troop-buildup measure, maybe we'll have another war on our hands soon.
Gee I didn't know the meme about the Army wanting anybody they could get was literally true.
As my dad put it, "They'll always take more cannon fodder."
I second this, it's universally agreed on by just about everyone else in every other branch I've ever met that the Air Force has the best quality of life hands down. However advancement is the absolute worst of any branch of all. If you're looking earn free college and do 4 years and get out by all means I'd recommend the air force over the Navy any day. If you're looking to make a career out of the military? I'd consider different branch, I made E-1 to E-6 in 8 years and can now retire from the military woth retirement pay and benefits the rest of my life at the ripe old age of 38, so I feel like I got out good for being in the Navy.
What branch has the best advancement?
Also, I fixed the title to the proper one given in the OP so maybe people won't think we're now allowing every schizophrenic person into the army no questions asked.
This seems very unwise
What branch has the best advancement?
Depends more on MOS as far as I can tell. If you join an MOS that has a shit ton of hard-chargers (like infantry), you're going to have to compete like crazy just to make E-5. If you join an MOS that's either hard to get into to begin with, or nobody wants to do (intel and cook respectively), you'll probably make E-6/7 before you hit 30. They come with their own headaches though. [editline]13th November 2017[/editline] Regarding this lowering of standards - isn't this what allowed Bergdahl to join in the first place? iirc, he washed out of Coast Guard basic due to a psychological breakdown, and had to get a waiver to join the Army. I can't see much good coming out of this. If they're hurting for people that bad, why can't they just reduce the entry PT and body comp standards? You can PT a fatass until he's not a fatass anymore, helping someone whose head might not be on straight isn't quite that easy, and comes with more risk.
Let's put people with mental health issues into situations where they can develop more mental health issues.
Not to mention potentially giving people with past suicidal tendencies access to firearms, as it's typical for even people that just work on machines carry at least a sidearm.
What branch has the best advancement?
As PsychoKitten already mentioned, it depends on your MOS. E-1 to E-3 advanced is usually automatic after you spend a certain amount of time in your MOS/RATE. Here are the latest advanced exam quotas grouped by paygrade they were advanced to and Job/MOS/RATE in the Navy(Green is the number and % of total exam takers advanced that took the exam) If you have any military related questions we actually have a thread about this over in GD, I don't want to derail this thread further.
This, getting rid of dumbass tattoo standards and lowering initial PT standards would allow far more people to join. As opposed to "oh hey, you used to cut yourself, oh well you're better now I guess so here's a gun and there's the enemy, go get em tiger".
They already lowered the Tattoo standards for USMC/USN so it's much more relaxed in what both existing members can get and what prospective recruits can get away with to get in. I don't know how that affected Navy recruitment, but to be fair the Army manpower shortage is kind a self inflicted as they really fucked themselves with the post Iraq drawdown where they kicked a shit ton of good people out and they don't seem like they've been able to fully recover.
A history of "illness," not having them in the present. Most of the things listed are things that can often be overcome (depression, drug/alcohol abuse, etc.). It isn't even like the military is just ignoring these conditions too. If you actually read the article, they are just expanding waivers, if someone seems clearly not mentally fit for war, they will not be recruited. Also this has absolutely nothing to do with the transgender ban. This has nothing to do with politics and appears to be an internal military thing, not something coming from Trump and his cronies.
I don't even see why the US military even needs more recruits, it's not like they are at war.
Recruitment has been ramping since ISIS became big and NK got back into the news, especially under Trump. It's not the military industrial complex, the US administration just wants more troops because it feels it needs more for both.
This means more weak men can use the military to better themselves. That's a lot better than feeling trapped flipping burgers.
This means more weak men can use the military to better themselves. That's a lot better than feeling trapped flipping burgers.
The military's job isn't to better people, that's on society. We have one function, and one function only - fight and win the nation's wars. Anything else is a side-benefit.
This is not what mental illness is, likely for a majority of people who suffer from it.
You understand the point I'm making though, right? You don't want mentally unstable or unsound people on the front lines if you can at all help it
