What the hell happened to DICE?
EA.
You guys are pretty fucked up. Prior to release: Wow, great graphics! I love the visual style. During release: Game looks great! This really is made for the PC market; cutting-edge visuals, not dumbed-down for consoles! It uses all four cores of my machine! After some dude hacked out a filter: What, there was a filter on it?! Remove, remove! BF3 sucks with a filter! It's so gross! seriously, the fuck.
The majority of us aren't saying BF3 sucks because of this, we're saying DICe sucks because of this.
So their visual style as one Facepuncher put it, is making everything look like you're swimming through a bottle of detergent?
Sad to hear, although I don't think the color grading is bad enough to prevent me from enjoying the game. In fact, I think most maps look pretty bad without color grading. Most of you probably disagree, but this is just my opinion.
The majority of us aren't saying BF3 sucks because of this, we're saying DICe sucks because of this.
suffers a bit for it, but the majority of the malice is directed at DICE for going back on a decision for no better reason than "our art team would not shut up about it because they worked hard to make the game look THIS uniformly bland."
I don't understand why the colour palette is such a big deal?
"what is color theory"
Who is "you guys"? Because I thought that shit was ugly in the very first multiplayer gameplay trailer.
it looked nice at first but got old very quickly when you find yourself having to squint a bit to pick people out of the environment.
bad company 2.
That is the first and only bf game i am gonna play due to the fact its on steam and they can't touch it and add more bullshit dlc MUAHAHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
That is the first and only bf game i am gonna play due to the fact its on steam and they can't touch it and add more bullshit dlc MUAHAHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
it is: *~Complete~*
How about a goddamn multiplayer shooter that actually is not brown or blue. Im gonna play BF1942 now.

Good for them, I think the color and style is beautiful, they shouldn't change it just because a small minority of loud whiners complains about something as minor as color and contrast.
The biggest thing that sucks about it is that you're at risk of being banned if you use a color correction mod, for no logical reason either.
this is also coming from developers who still think Punkbuster is...well good in any capacity really. in addition to weapon balancing and Patch testing, anti-cheat and cheat monitoring are not things DICE will be rembered fondly for.
The biggest thing that sucks about it is that you're at risk of being banned if you use a color correction mod, for no logical reason either.
Actually there is a logical reason. The program used to undo the color correction mod injects data into files while playing or before playing AFAIK. They said don't be surprised if punkbuster catches the program and you get banned. Same was if VAC detects you fucking with certain files it'll probably ban you.
Good for them, I think the color and style is beautiful, they shouldn't change it just because a small minority of loud whiners complains about something as minor as color and contrast.
but what about denying us the OPTION to change it?
Good for them, I think the color and style is beautiful, they shouldn't change it just because a small minority of loud whiners complains about something as minor as color and contrast.
That is not an excuse for them to announce the ability to remove the colors and then go around a couple days later and then say they aren't going to do it after all for some bullshit reason.
That is not an excuse for them to announce the ability to remove the colors and then go around a couple days later and then say they aren't going to do it after all for some bullshit reason.
All this means is that they had an impulsive moment. Whoo, big deal, they're humans and we all have moments like that.
All this means is that they had an impulsive moment. Whoo, big deal, they're humans and we all have moments like that.
Major companies like these cannot have impulsive moments. If they announce something they should better stick with it. Dice is gonna get a lot of shit for this.
Good for them, I think the color and style is beautiful, they shouldn't change it just because a small minority of loud whiners complains about something as minor as color and contrast.
are you fucking serious they're denying the option to let people play their game, the way they want to play it. B-b-b-but corporations are people too.
New Battlefield 3 "Olde Time" DLC Replaces blue colour filter with a black and white one permanently.
I just find it incomprehensible that people are getting worked up over the color palette all of a sudden. 99% of games with a stylized color palette do not have an option to change to a more plain, natural one, and nobody complained about them. Many of these comments I'm seeing on the web are unacceptable. "They should all be fired" for maintaining their art direction, death threats (serious or not), boycotting? Makes me sick and embarrassed to be a fan of videogames. On a side note, I personally prefer some of stylization in my games rather than plain old, boring and basic imitation of reality.
Good for them, I think the color and style is beautiful, they shouldn't change it just because a small minority of loud whiners complains about something as minor as color and contrast.
piss poor attitude you give people options, not squander what they want because something as simple as being able to see things in true color is against their pathetic "artistic integrity". its pretty shocking to me that the same studio that made Mirror's Edge made a game with such artificially shit color. I don't get where you're getting people don't complain about color pallets. Games have been brown and gritty for the past 5 years and most people are fucking sick of it.
I just find it incomprehensible that people are getting worked up over the color palette all of a sudden.
No-one would be reacting if they didn't announce it at all instead of getting our hopes up for a couple days and essentially going FUCK YOU we aren't doing it.

Were you complaining about their color choices before this flip-flopping by Dice?
I honestly prefer what BF3 looks like now, without the filter the game looks to vibrant and everything pops to much, I would rather have the filter only slightly on, like 50% or something to keep the game looking how it is while still giving it a slight pop to everything. Although they should just allow people to use a command to disable it, so what if it takes away the uniqueness of the game.
It looks like Battlefield 2 without the filter :(
Were you complaining about their color choices before this flip-flopping by Dice?
People have been complaining about shitty coloring ever since it released.
