Y'all should read up on the Romeo and Juliet laws which serve to get around the problem of lets say a 17 year old getting charged with statutory rape and being registered as a sex offender for having sex with a 15 year old.
They should get rid of the sexual offender registry or at least give it a rating system so that hardcore child rapists aren't mixed in with minor offenses.
i think the consent laws in the UK work just fine as they are. 16 unless it's with someone in a position of power over them or similar, 18 for no limit. [editline]17th November 2013[/editline] what would the benefit of lowering the age to 15 be? next you'd have people wanting to lower it again to 14 for the same reasons
It's 14 over here and everything is fine. [editline]17th November 2013[/editline] Spain is the lowest in Europe with 13.
What's it here in America?
What's it here in America?
State dependant. Generally 16,17 or 18+, though there's an image mapping it out somewhere.

If it's anything like here in the USA 14 is too early, in my opinion. Sure, some 14 year olds are already mentally capable enough, but that's a big gamble and most 14 year olds I know aren't.
age of consent is 16 here in ohio and that seems pretty reasonable to me
Never knew it was 16 here in CT, always assumed it was 18. Neat!
Considering 16 is the age you can leave school it makes sense.
I don't get the grey area between 16'ers and 18'ers. Can someone explain the UK law to me?
I don't get the grey area between 16'ers and 18'ers. Can someone explain the UK law to me?
It's illegal in the eyes of the law, but if it's completely consensual between both parties it's usually overlooked, at-least from people I know anyway. probably wrong but my 2 cents anyhow.
We had a lawyer argue it should be lowered to 13 in order to end the "persecution of old men". (NB: from the BBC so presumably they only published it in an attempt to move the Overton Window.)

At least from my experiences, this is what I gathered.
meanwhile the age of puberty has fallen to an all time low,at 12 and 13
meanwhile the age of puberty has fallen to an all time low,at 12 and 13
Obese girls start puberty earlier than healthy ones.
The way it works here is great; if you're under 16 you're allowed to have we with someone who's within two years of you, and from 16-18 you can have sex with whoever but can't be filmed doing it. Works well.
Considering 16 is the age you can leave school it makes sense.
what logic is that
Age of consent laws in this country are too much grey-area. I had to stop being intimate with a girlfriend in the past simply because I turned one year older (she was 15, I turned 16) and after that she lost interest in me which was pretty shit. It should basically be like 15 for consent provided it's in a reasonable relationship, i.e a 15 year old dating no older than someone who is 18.
