Ubisoft moving servers, games not playable for a week.

Here's what i can't understand why can't they leave the current servers up while setting new ones up then just switch them over taking probably a day, instead of a week.
I quit buying Ubisoft games for PC a long time ago. Only the AC games are cool in my opinion, and I played those on Xbox.
It must suck really hard for those that bought their Ubisoft games for PC.
Something just struck me. You know how we still can play old games like Red Alert and the like, and still enjoy them? If Ubi in the future declared bankruptcy, would anyone adopt their always-on servers? Unlikely. So all their games with that ridiculous DRM will be unplayable. Unless they patch all their games to not use it.
I remember that Valve once said that their contingency plan for when Steam goes down would be to release a patch for their stuff that frees it from the requirement to connect to Steam's servers. Essentially a release switch for when the company's end is near. Not sure if Ubisoft have thought that far ahead, or want to.
and that's what you get when supporting retarded DRMs.
let that be a lesson for you.
So this directly hurts only paying customers, and does not affect the pirates at all.
Die in a hole, Ubisoft, like whatever character dies in Driver: San Fransisco.
[SP]I don't know because I didn't buy it (and never will)[/SP]
Wow Ubisoft, way to make the pirated version of your products more appealing AGAIN.
Another very good reason to pirate their games.
games not playable for a week.
When were they EVER playable?
Pirates gonna Pirate, and no level of DRM in the world will hinder or slow them. v:v:v
When were they EVER playable?
They stopped being playable when Ubishit started counting hardware changes as additional installations(a.k.a. saying FUCK YOU to the entire PC Gaming demographic).
Do people make these mistakes to add to the retardation of the article? Or is it just plain stupidity?
Do people call out other people for errors while making errors of their own to add to the retardation of their posts? Or is it just plain stupidity?
It's like the built they DRM to ENCOURAGE piracy.

GRR SLIGHT GRAMMAR MISTAKES THIS IS SUCH AN OUTRAGE I MUST POST ABOUT IT
You know your DRM policy is shit when customers can actually lose their game from the company going down.
The same could be said of Steam, any EA title that requires Origin, I'm sure there's other examples I can't recall. It doesn't make the DRM bad, it simply makes it reliant on servers and the internet. What makes Ubisoft's DRM so bad is it requires a constant internet connection (period) and, it seems their supporting infrastructure (the servers) suck and have no redundancies in other locations.
I miss the days when what stopped you from playing your friend's copy of kotor was the fact you needed the disc in to play.
Yes, because that is so convenient for the customer? If anything, I actually prefer the newer systems because I don't need to have to have a disk in. Ubisoft just took it too far with their always on crap and all it's doing is hurting them and the consumers (because, some of their games are actually good).
I know this has been said before, but companies need to realize there's no way to stop someone from removing the DRM on any files that are client side; the only way (I can see) to truly stop pirates is to only have your game available on a service such as OnLive, where input is sent to the server and video/audio is sent from the server, but a lot of people don't have fast enough Internet to support that yet.
Until then, companies should focus less on trying to outsmart the pirates (because it won't work) and instead just make a game worth buying.
Wow, arguing about the legality of using a crack on a game/pirating a game you bought because the publisher is being a massive asshole and not letting you play it
Are you guys afraid the internet police is going to arrest you or something?
I'm not advocating for piracy here, but when a company is disabling your singleplayer games for a week you know you're in the position to tell them to go fuck themselves and play the game you paid for.

Valve has said that if Steam ever has to go down they'll release "no-cd" patches for all of their games and put it in the hands of the publishers to let you download your games and stuff. They care and are worried about such a thing happening.
Sure, offline mode is still shit, but they realize it's shit. And at the very least, you don't need to be online constantly to play a game.
They stopped being playable when Ubishit started counting hardware changes as additional installations(a.k.a. saying FUCK YOU to the entire PC Gaming demographic).
I also love how companies blame the PC community for drops in sales due to pirating when actually they're just shit games.
Just crack the DRM off if you bought the game legit, this is just simply disgusting
And nothing of value was lost.
Ubisoft is just asking for people to pirate their games seeing as the paying customer gets rooted up the ass whilst pirates make do with their games which people would win over in times like these.
Top job

Valve is pretty fucking cool. Kinda sucks that it will be gone eventually.
Wouldn't it technically be legal as long as you disabled seeding?
Downloading is legal in Canada as far as I know. Uploading however isn't.
The sad thing is Ubisoft won't learn or care about anything that happens, then still call everyone pirates. And you wonder why they're doing so terrible lately.
their DRM is annoying enough, now I can't play for a week?

That explains everything :v:
Downloading is legal in Canada as far as I know. Uploading however isn't.
Well see thats why its illegal. You yourself are just obtaining a copy of a game, however by seeding it you are actively distributing to those who do not. So I want to know if its illegal or not.

What's your point?
Downloading is legal as long as you do not upload stuff.. so block your upload or use some modified client if you're scared. Oh and under certain circumstances even uploading is legal depending on your country... for example if noone holds a license of the media your sharing in your county, it is legal.
That's the way it is for germany and most of europe.
Downloading yes.
Sharing stuff without licence holder in your country yes.
As far as games go. You're normally not allowed to circumvent copyprotections. But in Germany you have the right to create backup media of your stuff, no matter what TOS and everything says...
And if the software itself doesn't allow that you're theoretically allowed to use cracks or other programs to circumvent protections, as long as there is no "legal" way to do so.
DRM also is in many points a problematic thing. Because DRM in that way actually is not really legal in this form... because of things like these... so Customer Protection would (atleast to a degree) allow circumventing DRMs... when there is no other way to play the game, as in Germany you have th RIGHt to use your Media just as and when you like.
Just check the internet... this stuff differs extremely from country to country...
My ACII actually works offline...? Is Ubi still constant online, 'caus it isn't for me?
Ubisoft effectively holds you hostage using your hobby, if you're a legit customer
Just crack the DRM off if you bought the game legit, this is just simply disgusting
This isn't something new. I had Far Cry 2 for a long time and after reinstalling it to play it once again I was completely unable to play. Securom kept patching over and over, until it finally finished. The game would give me an error message and I had wasted 2 hours. 2 minutes later I was playing because I had been forced to download a crack for a game I legitimately bought. :suicide:
