I hope the don't awaken something living down there... :kraken:
Super Deep Sea Horizon here we come!
Y'know, if they ARE gonna do deep-sea mining, they should AT LEAST construct a deep sea underwater facility for mining and scientific research. It'd be a milestone for mankind if done right, and even more of a milestone if it were self-sufficient.

And why cant I mine in the sea?
Surely this is dangerous with the amount of methane under the ocean floor?
Surely this is dangerous with the amount of methane under the ocean floor?
Naaa
Surely this is dangerous with the amount of methane under the ocean floor?
You're endangering your life right now. See this pixel? What if it flew out of the screen and choked you. Then you'll think twice next time.
Surely this is dangerous with the amount of methane under the ocean floor?
Not where they are mining, no. The real issue is the disturbance of the benthic layer which will, make the area inhabitable for many benthic organisms. And dumped tailings causing the water to cloud up; causing less sun to reach phytoplankton and directly affecting zooplankton, which will reduce the amount of food for higher consumers.
Why does this make me think of Lego Rockraiders?
Fuck deep sea mining, it is time we stop spending all our money on developing new ways to kill Muslims and start spending it on space exploration. I'd bet money that if the US spend as much on space exploration as it did on its military we would be mining asteroids and have colonies on Mars by now.

Having too many liberals caring about the environment and cultures and too many conservatives going on about religion and shit slows down our progress.
There's something people don't understand. Our planet is mostly water, and the thing we no least about our planet is the oceans deep. The opportunity for scientific research while simultaneously extracting resources is high, and the things we can discover about our oceans is enough to give me a nerdgasm.

I have mixed feelings about this. I'm not quite ready to jump on the "lets-create-jobs-any-damn-way-we-please-without-forethought" bandwagon.

Sadly we have some weirdos running the world. Obama was CIA etc.

I don't much appreciate the notion of a wholesale dismantling of culture either
Surely this is dangerous with the amount of methane under the ocean floor?
Not enough in one place to do any real damage besides they'd know where the methane pockets are with their fancy shmancy equipments.
