Amazon pulls SimCity as EA struggles to fix servers
ToS is BS in the EU.
Exactly. People don't read ToS documents for a reason.
All I've heard is conspiracy level bullshit about how EA is big and controls everyone who works for them to the point where they just do what they want.
Shift 2, it was and is still broken as fuck. The devs themselves have said that the game wasn't even finished but EA kept pressuring them so they had to release it broken
Let's sum things up:
People buy SimCity.
People Rage about the Always-Online-Stuff and things not working.
People still threw money into EA's basket and showed them: "Hey I'm willing to accept your idea of singleplayer-modes being always online"
Well... it was superficial that things like these are going to happen, eh? Why did you throw money at them in the first place?
maybe because it's one outstanding issue on an otherwise good game?
i mean, i think always-online singleplayer is fucking stupid but i'm still gonna buy simcity because i think it looks fun
I hope EA learns their lesson
They won't

I'm not because if their servers go down I can no longer play the game, even in singleplayer.
I'm just commenting there.
And yeah, them getting voted that was idiotic.
But, the people who voted were mostly people who were probably under 18 and didn't care about anything but what directed affected them at the moment.
But they are still a bad company.
I feel like it's more the multiplayer feature causing this issue than anything. Because of how it's set up to allow fluid streaming of other people and their cities, the servers going down is crippling. It was a real bonehead move to have it be multiplayer only.
It's not the DRM causing this as much as it's just the multiplayer system. If it had no DRM, this issue would still happen because the game is multiplayer only. If it was singleplayer it would probably work just fine.
You don't realize that enforcing a game which was always a perfectly fine singleplayer one into multiplayer has only one reason - making it impossible to pirate?
No matter how much honey they smear around your anus, it's the prime reason.
If it wasn't, then the game wouldn't be "always online only".
They are bullshiting you with "innovation" and you happily eat the whole load of it.
[editline]8th March 2013[/editline]
Basically it's perfectly exact to say that thousands of people are getting shafted due to DRM.
It's all covered in the TOS. The people who are covered by law are getting their refunds, and the people who are not.
Stop with your stupid arguing. The developers did an AMA on reddit a month or two ago and said themselves the drm wasnt their choice and the publisher forced it. The developers arent trying to ruin the game, its EA. Plus, if they give a defective product, they're entitled to a refund.

everytime EA releases a game, someone spills coffee on the servers.

Ever heard of putting a frog into water and heating it up?
Ever heard of putting a frog into water and heating it up?
You know that, in that experiment, the frog had been lobotomized, right? When the frog kept its brain, it still jumped out. But no, don't buy it and support their shitty business practices. Don't pirate it because that just gives them an excuse to continue. Just have nothing to do with it so they can get nothing out of it.

Here's somebody doing the exact same thing in the UK, with the same kind of TOS
There's nothing in the agreement saying "Click here to waive laws"
Someone tried that, no luck

On another note, Someone made a web version of the new SimCity, http://static.statusfailed.com/opencity/, exactly the same as the new one, but free
Honestly I just want to see EA go. They're poisoning the industry, influencing other new gaming companies to copy their corporate policies because of the money they are making. The last EA game I purchased was Medal of Honor: Heroes in 2006. I will never again purchase one of their titles unless they completely revamp their business.
I was told by a friend of mine who's been following this that the online stuff is 90% for saving the game and that all the actual sim computation was done client side (which I might add is what a number of people here, myself included said would be happening for a 60 dollar title a month or two ago when this shit first got brought up)
In other words. Give it a week, maybe 2, and the pirates will have an almost fully functional game with zero strings attached.
Great fucking work guys. I guess you didn't learn anything about Spore. I guess ubisofts catastrafuck didn't ring any alarms either. Congradufuckinglations. You've just made piracy appealing; you know, the exact opposite of what you are supposed to be doing.

The guy could've at least tried not to sound like a douche.
Remember DRM in the 80s and 90s? When all you had to do was look back in the manual for the answer to a question?
god damn meryls number and pirated MGS1

He is under zero obligation to be nice. EA's customer support is unfathomably shitty. You spend hours fucking around only to be told "oh sorry the problem is on our end", told to fuck off, or just disconnected. It doesn't matter if you are civil or not.
If anything, being a dick threatening lawsuits probably serves you better if you actually have the capacity to follow through because it gives you leverage. In the case with Norway law, I think (may be wrong) he has the power to follow through with what he says, and if they attempt punitive action because of it, he may very well have the legal recourse to hit them very hard. If anything, he shouldn't have even offered to give them 7 days. It's not his problem to deal with.

Have you ever worked in tech support or customer support? The person your talking to doesn't want to deny you service, they are trying to do what they can with a supervisor telling them to screw you over.
Being forceful and stern is good. Acting like an ass doesn't help the situation. You're not taking your frustration out on EA, you're taking it out on someone dealing with hundreds of angry people per day.

In this situation what does being a dick achieve though? It's not as if the customer support guys who are probably paid fuck all are just going flick the "TURN OFF THE SERVERS AND PISS OFF THE CUSTOMERS" switch and make everything fine and dandy. People can complain all they want but an issue like this isn't as easily fixed as clicking your fingers. They fucked up hugely by adding the shit DRM and then having crap servers to run off but it's nothing to do with the EA Customer Support.

Actually they probably do want to deny you service because they are provided some incentive.
The faster they can close your ticket and flag it as resolved the sooner they can continue to the next one. They have internal quotas to meet or they get in trouble, and they can get fired for providing service too often that allows customers to get money back or stop paying entirely. There are internal rewards for getting people to fork over more money, or keeping them from getting it back.
Being blunt as hell and to the point is practically the only way you can break out of the form responses.

You get transferred to upper levels of support sooner if you exhaust the checklist of form responses sooner.
That or you just get hung up on since it's EA. Either way is a win for you if you want a refund or a legal justification for a chargeback.
I haven't seen this in a while, but unsurprisingly enough, it still fits

I'm not saying they are on our side, what I mean is, they surely don't like to do what they do. The quota is simply something pushing them to act and work the way they do. Doesn't mean they want to.
I get paid to sit in a cubicle and attempt to test software. Doesn't mean I want to sit in a cubicle all day.
Maxis was like a delicious tub of pure vanilla ice cream. Then EA came along and diarrhea'd all over the tub, mixed it around, and is now trying to sell it as milk chocolate.
Suck my dick EA. Seriously. You fucking suck. Every game you have ever made in the past decade has sucked not only dick, but balls, asshole, and gooch all in one slutty ass disgusting fucking mouth. God I'm fucking raging right now. I hate EA.

Okay, I've seen examples of EA's shitty CS team...
I find it odd though that out of the 5 or 6 times I've contacted them, I've had nothing but good experiences.
Got spore, borked one of the installs on Linux and therefore couldn't redeem it, they credited it back without a second glance.
Got ME2 through EA, EA download manager didn't work period on brother's linux machine. I asked if they could refund that purchase so I could immediately turn around and buy it through steam, a service which I knew worked. I had a refund within half an hour and brother happily playing within 6 hours.
Lost by BF2142 password, couldn't remember deets for it, got it back both times i asked.
Wanted BF2 special forces, didn't want to pay for the whole game again just to get it. They gave it to me for free, no questions asked.
There are good people on their CS team, and they're simply doing what they're told by their supervisors. Don't blame the CS rep, blame the higher ups on their chain of command.
So SimCity is on its way to be the worst rated product ever on Amazon, over 2500 1-star reviews.
After reading this topic I'm pretty sure that T2L_Goose is an EA viral marketer.

Okay. Even though the only thing I was saying was to not blindly blame EA when it could just as well be Maxis's call as well. But you guys don't want to listen to any sort of reason, you just want to find any sort of excuse to hate a big company, even when you have zero evidence to back up your claims. You rely on pure speculation and that's all. It's a double standard and you're being ridiculous.
Do we have a last-good-major-release-date and a first-bad-major-release-date? Battlefield 2142 was still good as memory serves, and that was 2006.

Late reply, but the first fiasco was Spore, 2008 iirc.
