I can do that too :v: He didn't say "It's my opinion that these 2 games are bad" but instead "People think these games suck, only the press likes it."
that's some serious strawgraspage
are you seriously making your justification for disliking the devs because the way they dress holy shit
I'm making my justification based on the fact that the woman is acting like she has a three foot long rod in her ass, with her chin raised like she's better than everyone else, while displaying an award they got. The man has that sort of douchebag-y "I think I'm better than you and your taste in X is trash" look on his face too. All while showcasing an award they got for a 'video game'. They're acting like they're developer royalty, when in reality it just makes them look like pompous choads. It's written all over their smug fucking faces.
I think people hate it because it's an average/mediocre game that got praised by the press and hailed as a masterpiece. Kinda the same reason why people started hating Bioshock Infinite I guess.
People started hating bioshock infinite because they realized the game was nowhere near as good as the original and that it had way too many issues that only transpired with some hindsight.

You're seriously making the assumption that these two are pompous assholes just because they've got their chins high after they won an award? Seriously? [editline]5th August 2014[/editline] This is literally just one promo image you are basing their entire personalities off of.
I'll never understand how quick gamers are to froth at the mouth over things that don't affect them and games they don't have to play [editline]5th August 2014[/editline] Gamers will so passionately defend video games as some incredible art form that should be taken seriously, but as soon as something steps outside the little box they've defined as a video game they go off in the most immature and irrational fit of rage imaginable. I just don't get it

I just don't get it
but the sort of people who like gone home are the same sort of people who want to push games as a meaningful art form??? like, what the hell are you talking about, you're taking random stereotypes and ideas about gamers and amalgamating them into a single one that doesn't actually exist
but the sort of people who want games to be art the same sort of people who LIKE gone home?
I think you'll find that the majority of facepunchers and gamers in general consider gaming as an art form. Just look at any thread on the subject Do you not remember the whole Roger Ebert thing?
yet half the praise about gone home is how it pushes boundaries of gaming as a medium or whatever?
yet half the praise about gone home is how it pushes boundaries of gaming as a medium or whatever?
I don't understand what you're getting at?
i don't think the people who dislike gone home are the same people who think games are art, it's like saying gamers hate consoles but love doritos and dew. if anyone has any actual proof that there is significant overlap between these two groups ('games are art' nerds and people who think gone home is shit) i'd love to see it e: like, most people who don't like gone home say it's pretentious, it's boring, etc. i don't imagine these people then turn around and say "DEAR ESTHER IS AMAZING"
I just don't understand the love for this game, the entire story drags on to the ending that is you're a [sp]lesbian[/sp]. OK so what? thats it? [sp]Shes a lesbian and runs away[/sp], big fucking woohoo.
i don't think the people who dislike gone home are the same people who think games are art, it's like saying gamers hate consoles but love doritos and dew. if anyone has any actual proof that there is significant overlap between these two groups ('games are art' nerds and people who think gone home is shit) i'd love to see it
Except it's constantly shown that Facepunchers generally agree that video games are a form of art - just do a search and you'll find several examples (such as here). Yet when it comes to Gone Home, there's a definite majority that gets super mad about it.
i still don't get why this game has pissed so many people off for the wrong reasons. they use it to get on their "haha lgbt couples so original... tumblr tumblr tumbLR.." soapbox instead of making actual critique about the game that people would care about. stuff like this is why people don't lend their ears to most gamers when it comes to input. the game itself is as generic as any other indie game (sans the plot and story presentation) yet i almost hear this from no-one when they talk about it
The thing that aggravates me with Gone Home isn't the details of the plot, it's more the fact I've seen people herald it as some revolutionary and innovative storytelling method that will change gaming forever, when it's no deeper than a book or a movie, and incredibly shallow as a game. [editline]5th August 2014[/editline]
there's not enough room in the videogame market for games that don't appeal to me personally
"You're not allowed to criticize games for getting immense critical praise they don't deserve. Shut your gob, it doesn't appeal to you so you shouldn't be able to say anything about it ever." - Lachz0r, 2014.
"You're not allowed to criticize games for getting immense critical praise they don't deserve. Shut your gob, it doesn't appeal to you so you shouldn't be able to say anything about it ever." - Lachz0r, 2014.
Nobody's saying you can't criticise it, it's just the fact that most of the "criticism" is irrational and disproportionate hatred. Gone Home existing doesn't affect you. Other people liking Gone Home doesn't affect you. Why get so angry and bitter over this? The gaming subculture doesn't need to be this childish.
Gone Home existing doesn't affect you. Other people liking Gone Home doesn't affect you.
But why criticize anything, by that logic? Quite a silly statement to make.
But why criticize anything, by that logic? Quite a silly statement to make.
Did you miss the part where I said that most of the criticism just been gamers frothing at the mouth? There's very little actual criticism going on here - at least not criticism worth taking seriously.
I love all the THIS THING DOESN'T AFFECT YOU WHY ARE YOU VOICING AN OPINION ON IT??? type comments we get in SH. People are entitled to criticize Gone Home just as much as people are entitled to praise it. If people feel something is receiving praise that it doesn't deserve (or alternatively, not receiving the praise it DOES deserve), they are free to voice their opinion. I dunno, calling all criticism childish is itself pretty childish.
i've actually never heard anyone say exactly why the plot isn't good other than the blanket statement of "its shallow" and "not deeper than other media has done" and "i hate tumblr"
i've never heard anyone say exactly why the plot is good besides the blanket statement of 'it's empowering' and 'it does it's own thing' and 'i hate neckbeards'
i liked gone home.
Did you miss the part where I said that most of the criticism just been gamers frothing at the mouth? There's very little actual criticism going on here - at least not criticism worth taking seriously.
I didn't address it because you were responding to me, and I don't like to consider myself a part of that baseless argument, and my point was absolutely nothing related to the mouth-frothing.
i've actually never heard anyone say exactly why the plot isn't good other than the blanket statement of "its shallow" and "not deeper than other media has done" and "i hate tumblr"
The plot might be great. I'm just not a fan of the praise for its delivery and the fact that it's praised for its innovation of gaming narrative and storytelling, when it's not that innovative at all. The actual plot isn't what I have gripes with, it's the disproportionate praise.
Gone on Vacation It'll be a story about your trip through the airport to leave and when you get on the plane you find out the pilot is a lesbian.
I didn't address it because you were responding to me, and I don't like to consider myself a part of that baseless argument, and my point was absolutely nothing related to the mouth-frothing.
That wasn't targeted at you, and I don't see how it's baseless when a lot of this thread and "criticism" of the game within gaming communities has been exactly that. I mean people have even gone to attacking it because of a single picture the developers were in. You can't say this sort of stuff is rational.
The baseless comment was directed at the people frothing at the mouth, not you saying that they were frothing at the mouth. I don't want to be lumped in with them because honestly I don't give enough of a toss.
the rest is like, well, it's obviously not your kind of game so why are you playing it? i don't like racing games, i don't cry when they don't appeal to me because they're just not my kind of game
and you never complain about, for instance, the representation of women in certain games because they're not meant to appeal to you and they're not your kind of game? you just completely ignore games you don't like because they're not for you?
and you never complain about, for instance, the representation of women in certain games because they're not meant to appeal to you and they're not your kind of game? you just completely ignore games you don't like because they're not for you?
do you really think different gameplay mechanics are comparable to enforcing gender stereotypes?
But those games aren't for you. Why don't you play other games if you don't like those ones?
But those games aren't for you. Why don't you play other games if you don't like those ones?
It's not like those games are primarily aimed at misogynists. Stereotypes that span over several genres and generations are a completely different thing to one game's target audience. What are you getting at?
