Except that these twitter posts are highly misinformed about what feminism is and instead takes a very, VERY small minority of feminists on tumblr posting dumb shit as the new face of the feminist movement. Most of these posts reflect a sheltered, middle class upbringing so no shit they would feel as they do, but the fact of the matter is that feminism is objectively beneficial to the social, economic and political stature of women. Also, it's dumb to exclude 50% of the population from the argument of gender equality.
Nah tumblr is a piece of shit full of people pretending to have PTSD, if these girls wanna shoot at it go ahead. Tumblr didn't get a bad reputation out of the blue you know. Edit: It's easy to go "ALL BAD POST ARE TROLLS!!!" but you know what, they aren't ALL trolls trying to make it look bad, some people can be genuine in using Feminism as a excuse to be nutters.
what does this have to do with the thread at all what do you think mentioning "hehe look at these fools..." over and over again will accomplish
Sorry forgot facepunch goes full retard off topic and gets mad at anyone talking about the actual article. Someone should make a thread in mass debate if there isn't one yet so dudes like you can explain femnism while people who want to make a comment on the OP can. Edit: OP mentions tumblr. I'm talking about tumblr. I'm on topic, you're not. Sorry if you don't agree??
what does this have to do with the thread at all
A lot if you read the thread, some of the statements say that peoples views from tumblr dont matter because they are all generalized to be insane. What hes trying to point out is that you shouldn't generalize someones opinion form where they come from. For example I could say that people who refuse to use capital letters in the SH are most likely share the same view. Since I disagree with that view their posts dont matter to me. But that wouldn't make much sense, right?

I dont think you actually looked at the article aside from the words "Tumblr post"
The only reason tumblr is mentioned in the op is to state that this women against feminism thing started in tumblr. I dont think you actually looked at the article aside from the words "Tumblr post"
Nah I took it as them going against the stereotyped Tumblr Femnist, not the actual thing.
I believe the feminism movement should acknowledge what people dislike about it. Simply by the fact that this post got 300 winner ratings means that lots of people have a problem with the current state of feminism. Are all 300 of those people MRA women haters? Is it really so hard to admit that those people may have a point? You're never going to get ahead as a movement unless you start admitting your flaws. And judging by the 300 winner ratings, the feminist movement has flaws.
The first page of this thread seems awkward as fuck seeing as it's a bunch of (presumed) teenage boys telling these girls they're wrong because they don't want the same thing they do. I know it's hip to call yourself a femnists and get all the internet cred you can but if girls are coming out and saying "cut it out" I think the boys in general should back off, not tell them to shut up and let us continue defending them.
It's not so much getting mad at girls for 'not knowing what they want' as much as it is getting mad at girls for not caring about what other girls want. If they're personally happy fitting into gender roles, then that's absolutely fine. The problem is them telling other girls to fit into gender roles.
Why does the feminism movement not acknowledge what people dislike about it? See: "Femenists want to destroy men, not be equal with them!" "Feminists shouldnt exist, we should be ~gender equalists~" "Look at this cherrypicking I did on tumblr!"

There's a few people who are obviously joining in because it's going viral but I don't think they should be shut up because they don't agree with others. See: "Femenists want to destroy men, not be equal with them!" "Feminists shouldnt exist, we should be ~gender equalists~" "Look at this cherrypicking I did on tumblr!"
This whole thing just goes to show that the movement is suffering from a pretty significant image problem at the moment. The retards aren't representative of feminism as a whole, but they are representing feminism to a lot of people. It's all very well and good that we here know the it's just a vocal minority, but if everyone else doesn't know that, then there's a major issue.
I thought tumblr didn't matter? This is why I'm fine with the girls in the OP firing at it lol
The girls in the OP are saying they dislike feminism, not tumblr brand™ feminism, but feminism itself. If their massive misconceptions are based on a minority of morons on Tumblr who have the views they are against, they should be saying that, not just feminism as a whole. Tumblr doesn't matter until it starts causing problems like this, Tumblr is not representative of feminism as a whole, the cherry picked "man hater" accounts tend to be trolls trying to piss off the ~SJWs~~~ or people who are just straight up delusional anyway. Neither of which are going to actually be feminists. Therefore Tumblr isn't really important, it's just an annoying prick in the side of feminists who are trying to educate people. MRAs can just come along and be all like "hey seen these crazy broads???" and fuck the discussion up.

Pretty sure it's just refuting the common claims people have because of the more widespread image
Modern feminists are not the same as tumblr feminists and not all feminists on tumblr are idiots, just the annoying loud ones.
Sadly the annoying loud ones are the well known ones and the reason a lot of people decry the concept as a whole. People have started using the word Feminism to enable bullying people, minority or not that's a problem. That's what I'm assuming the girls are going after.
Which I didn't take at all, there's a few idiot signs there but there's also (if you clicked) a few saying "I'm happy to be a femnist but I don't need all these radical people" or "I want to fight for equality, not attack others because they're different" which feel aimed only at the nutters I mentioned previously. The only one close is the one saying "I don't need feminism because real feminism doesn't support birth control and walking around like a damn slut". Underlined: Maybe you're just more optimistic than me, but those seem more like they think all feminism is radical feminism. Why else say "I don't need feminism" rather than "I don't need radical feminism"?

Tumblr is little more than a boogeyman and a deflection when it comes to these things [editline]4th August 2014[/editline] But that's been explained quite a few times in this thread already.
Also maybe people stand up for feminism because it's what they believe in, and not just to be cool? Just a thought. I find it incredibly petty how there's always someone in these threads to criticise men who stand up for women's rights. That's basically saying men aren't allowed to believe in women's rights and only women should fight for them. It's the kind of sexist attitude that causes issues in the first place.

Because it isn't the kind of stuff radicals partake in, or the kind of stuff those scary Tumblr feminists post about. Radical feminism is just radical, it's always been a thing as with any social movement. Tumblr "feminists" are just morons who don't get how to work a social movement. Modern feminism is merely a change from previous incarnations, as the particular inequalities that need fixing have shifted, the general focus of the movement shifts too. It's not modern feminist ideology that causes idiots on the internet to take pictures of men sitting on buses, it's stupidity.
This whole thing just goes to show that the movement is suffering from a pretty significant image problem at the moment. ...
Feminism has always had an image problem, it's got nothing to do with tumblr and has existed long before that. The problem isn't the movement or the name or anything like that though, it's created by people who are worried about it and react negatively (like MRAs), and doing stuff like changing the name won't do anything to stop that.

Last post I'll make as I'm sure it'll be picked apart and used to infer things I never intended but once again the girls in the OP (which links to their tumblr ironically) are against tumblr self proclaimed feminist. The girls themselves are sick of what half the people in the thread are partaking in. I've read a ton of those signs and these are the common complaints. *The word rape is used too lightly these days, there's no such thing as eye rape *If a man says they're pretty or whistles and compliments them then it's a compliment, not rape or "they see me as a piece of meat!!!" *They're sick of hipsters/teenagers white knighting them *They're also sick of people who attack others that don't agree with normal feminism, few signs going so far as to call it abusive (and in a way- it is.) *Girls want to wear what they want without being told to cover up their bodies entirely *Numerous signs mention how men have problems as well that aren't addressed because men "deserve it" or get instantly labeled "MRA" and generalized. (It's on this very page of the thread!) *They want to stand up for themselves in general There's more but it's safe to cut it there saying that this is not real feminism that they're complaining about and instead the tumblr hivemind of what people spam on that site. Saying I find it ironic that some of the signs say "STOP DEFENDING ME" and the thread's first page calling them idiots for that isn't me saying men shouldn't have a opinion, it's me saying it's dumb because look at what you just typed why are you ignoring these specific peoples request let alone insulting them for not going along with what you want or define. You can use this to launch your own feminism ideals on facepunch for the 200th time but it's fairly apparent they're just tired of tumblr's home-brand of the topic. Not the actual meaning. The self image is bad not because of MRA but instead because of idiots like some of the people in the thread that are way to eager to attack people who don't agree with them or to generalize those that have a different opinion.
