I suppose this will be useful for fighting school-shootings? :v:

Moar shotguns
How long do you think it would be before some poor kid gets shot because he/she pulls out a water-pistol out of the backbag? Or anything resembling a gun, when I think of the recent news about this.
The thing that's scary to contemplate is this: If workers at a school are given permission, but not required, to carry a gun while in the school what type of mentality do you think the ones who actually do it will have? Do you think they will be the most responsible, careful, level headed teachers for example? I don't, I think those people will be the least likely to bring a gun to school even if they could. It's like if you go to a nude beach you'll see every type of person there EXCEPT the ones you want to see naked.
Here we go treating the symptoms rather than the actual cause again. The problem here isn't that a student can kill his classmates. The problem is that a student wants to kill his classmates.

It is completely 100% impossible to stop every student from wanting to kill his classmates.
Well, next year, I'll be starting school, and will hopefully afterwards become a teacher in History/English. I like the idea of this bill, If someone were to target children I'm teaching, I'm not going to sit idly by and wait for possible death.

Nice hero fantasy.
Who cares about South Dakota, should be a giant parking lot in my opinion.
so are kids forced to attend a class where their teacher is carrying? or are they allowed to switch out into a class where they actually feel comfortable?
Call me crazy, but I don't think this is a solid idea.
I mean, what if a kid steals the weapon? What if someone attacks the teacher unsuspectingly, steals their weapon, and does their bidding that way?
What if the attacker was wearing a hood, had gloves on, stole the weapon, then ditched it? No one would know who did it, because the weapon and ammunition was under their name.
There is just so many flaws that could happen. It's ridiculous. There are also good things that could come out of this, but I just see with this generation knowing pretty much nothing about weapon discipline, I don't see a good outcome.
These threads are so funny...
I have mixed feelings bout I'm 60% against
some asshole teacher is going to fuck it up really bad and threaten a kid with a gun, I just feel it. They let a lot of fucked up people around kids so yeah. Or some kid will find a gun, etc. There's a lot of bad potential, but also a lot of good potential, and you can't deny that.
This will put you into a better perspective

just imagine a scum like that being allowed a gun.
at the same time, just imagine a 30 year old man walking into a school with a full auto rifle being shot before he even harms a single child.
I'm sorry but, I just wouldn't feel safe if my kid was in a school that had teachers with guns. I don't fucking care what anyone says, this isn't a 3rd world country and yes, school shoot outs are a huge issue, but this just isn't right. We need to try better solutions before we try this. Why not arm teachers with tasers or mace WELL ABOVE first doing it with guns? Or how about... you stop the media from worshiping killers?
You would have to be a complete fucking moron to think it isn't possible that a teacher will cause a shoot out.

Might be a while but its possible. It could be either a respectable or a total scumbag teacher whose having a really bad day and just fucks completely up.

These types of things are always a risk with weapons, but the point of CC is that nobody will know the teacher is armed. Having a CC permit in the first place means you have to pass a background check and a class. Because you have to be able to legally carry the weapon to be able to carry in a school, CC is pretty much a requirement. People bring up stress and things like that, but that's part of daily life regardless of whether you teach or not. You still don't see CC holders shooting people in the heat of the moment. This is a better move than simply leaving schools as "gun-free zones".
Alright, a couple things guys.
First off, Concealed Carry is just that, Concealed. If someone can see the gun then you've just broken the law and they can call the police and they HAVE to respond, chances are they're going to respond with their own gun drawn when you first see them. You know what you'll be charged with? Assault with a deadly weapon, and all they have to do is feel threatened by seeing it in the holster and call the police.
This does not apply to open carry though, and you can go from an exposed gun to a concealed gun, but you can not go from a concealed gun to an exposed gun unless you intend to use it, that is the law. Now that's not so cut and dry, if the responding officer believes that it was a genuine mistake and you were just reaching up to the top of a shelf and your jacket or what have you rode up and the gun was momentarily exposed then he's probably not gonna arrest you and just advise you be more careful.
Course if you make an ass of yourself and start being argumentative with the police then they're gonna be more inclined to arrest you. Your attitude will get you everywhere or nowhere.
Bottom line is if you are concealing a weapon (Doesn't matter if it's a gun or a large knife, ANY weapon) it must stay concealed, nobody is going to know you have it.
Now the consequences for getting arrested are fairly harsh, you might get a year in jail and a fine of $1000 or you'll just get the fine, in either case you'll loose your CC license and the privilege to get a new one for 8-10 years, and after that you are going to have an absolute bitch of a time trying to convince them to give you another one.
To get a concealed carry license you have to take a class on concealed carry, there you will learn the law such as I described above and then some, you will learn about different kinds of handgun, how to identify a loaded or unloaded gun, how to find the safety, how to find out if it's double action or single action, different kinds of ammo (Especially the types of ammo to avoid for self defense purposes, such as full metal jacket), next you'll be called up to the front of the class and handed a gun.
This is a trick, if you take the gun before the instructor demonstrates it to be empty AND hands it to you while it is open then you just broke a rule and will be reprimanded, if you accidentally point the muzzle at anyone you will be reprimanded, if you allow the wrong type of ammo to be loaded in the gun you will be reprimanded and they will try to get you to do this stuff wrong so they can instruct you to do otherwise (I got handed a magazine loaded with .380 ACP for a 9x19mm gun for example), and they will do it several times. Next you'll be taught how to stand and properly hold the gun and dry fire at a target several times, it is a full day class and to finish it you have to demonstrate you can handle a firearm safely.
After you finish the class you're given a certificate which says you passed, if you didn't get one it's because you were a jackass and mouthed off to the instructor the whole time so he decided you weren't level headed enough to carry a gun and kicked you out (Again, attitude will get you everywhere or nowhere), or you could not control the muzzle or keep your finger off the trigger, those are the two major No-Nos that will get you kicked out.
The certificate is not the license, to get the license you must go to the local DMV where they will run a background check on you (And as I understand it, you must take a number and get in line, this number is the same one used for sex offenders. :v:), that can take about a week and you can't buy a gun during that time or they'll delay the background check to investigate you further to see why there are two background checks being run on you (Once for the license and once while buying a gun). If you pass the background check then and only then do you get your license that will allow you to carry a concealed weapon, granted you have your license with you when you do because that's pretty much like driving around without your driver's license.
