I'm so flipping confused. How does the NSA have the resources to actually LISTEN to all the stuff they record? Do they just hire homeless people to sit at desks and listen to one microphone each or something? Do they have an army of spy-clones sat around plugged into one or two bugs each, making a note of every time they hear suspicious conversations?

So when the fuck is the NSA going to be held accountable for shit like this? At this rate...fucking never.
Why do I get the sinking feeling that this is contributing to the start of World War 3?
I hadn't even thought about that until you said it, but now I'm getting a little scared.
I bet Europe doesn't have to put up with shit like this.
It just keeps piling on, I'm curious if the dam will ever break.
I bet Europe doesn't have to put up with shit like this.
If we do spy on each other we at least manage to keep it secret, it sounds like people are finding tape recorders nailed to the walls with 'PROPERTEE OF USA DONUT STEEL' written on it.
It just keeps piling on, I'm curious if the dam will ever break.
I hope it does cause I'll be there with soda and a bag of popcorn watching when it does.
And, nothing will change. [editline]26th August 2013[/editline] Ever. [editline]26th August 2013[/editline] When are people going to declare war on us so we can start the uprising from within as well?

Holy shit is it really at all in any way surprising to any of you that an intelligence agency would bug places where foreign diplomats work? What do you think they do, bug coffee shops and public parks so they can listen to joggers and learn how to make a sweet cup of coffee? Do you guys have any idea how often bugs get pulled out of embassies? It took decades to build the US embassy in Moscow because they kept finding Russian bugs during construction. I'm not going to debate the morality of spying on each other but if you think this is a Watergate-esque revelation you are totally clueless on the long and colorful history of intelligence-gathering.
Why do I get the sinking feeling that this is contributing to the start of World War 3?
If any major power tries to start a war over this (and they won't), they're a hypocrite because if they're not doing the same thing already, you can bet your ass they're trying.
To be completely honest, this is is the type of surveillance you should actually expect from organizations like the NSA.
yeah, spy agencies probably do shit like this all the time, international spying, for a looooooooong ass time. The worrying thing is spying on their own citizens. Again, this is relatively nbd compared to prism and all that.
This feels like the straw that breaks the camels back to me You can't spy on and bug the place where nearly all countries come together to be friends and get away without 99% of those countries getting pissed. It undermines the entire concept behind having a UN

People are too fucking stupid and pussy to stand up to something that actually matters. This shit should be a big deal. But no instead we get justice4traytray
Again, if you care so much, do something about it. Stop complaining about what others care about, at least they're trying to change something they feel is unjust.

neat
Sooo... NSA is trying to be CIA now?
Sooo... NSA is trying to be CIA now?
NSA has always been the SIGINT agency, CIA is more HUMINT
Why is everybody so shocked? There's probably a bug in every room for every fucking country in the UN, this is incredibly common.
Why is everybody so shocked? There's probably a bug in every room for every fucking country in the UN, this is incredibly common.
Do you have anything to back that up
It's like shaking someones hand with a smile and welcoming them while you have a knife behind your back in the other hand.
You just described international politics.
hahahaha talk about UN incompentence
So if the NSA is doing all this stuff...what the hell has the CIA been up to? :v:
Testing weather balloons.
Testing weather balloons.
you saw swamp gas
So if the NSA is doing all this stuff...what the hell has the CIA been up to? :v:
Saving the princess from the dragon's dungeon. And killing the evil wizard. Standard CIA procedures.

This to me is as part of life as a rainy day. Since we've had governments, they've been gathering intel on people and other governments. The only thing that's changed in the last 2500 years is the toys used to do it
Merkel is going to get the boot in Germany and they're basically being shuffled politically since it's huge shit over there right now.
Unfortunately no, not really. It's damaging a ton of people's credibility because they lie and are caught less than a week later, but the voters don't care at all, which means the conservative Christian party(/ies, it's two on the same list because of regional matters), that Merkel is a member of, still have the largest percentage. It's possible that the FDP (the liberal/economic party) doesn't make the 5% cut in which case they would have quite a bit less than half of the seats, with the more social parties forming the overall majority. It's really close though and the overhang seats can shift it in either direction. (The Bundestag is mixed-member proportional representation, so each voter gets two votes, a local one for the direct mandate and one for the overall percentage. They can be different.) [editline]edit[/editline] At least my electorate is one where it makes sense to split the vote. The area around my university is so Christian that it wouldn't matter at all whom I vote for with my Erststimme.
