She's been trying to get me to watch it for 3 years, and I just started this month. TBH, it's not a bad show and it's a lot more bearable after you realize that it's a family show that parents watch with their children. Some of the plots are pretty interesting and the show doesn't take itself too seriously. If you watch it thinking it's going to be some Battlestar or Firefly, you're not going to be happy.
It also varies quite a bit; some of the episodes are quite bland and/or bad, whereas others are genuinely inspired (e.g. Midnight - not only one of my favourite Dr Who episodes, but also one of my favourite episodes of anything, ever).

Series 2 is even better and Children of Earth (series 3) is incredible.
He added: "Evidence has shown that face-averaging could be a powerful tool."
A powerful tool with what? What practical application is there for "I wonder what the average of all these people's faces looks like".

looks like something i'd drunkenly attempt with some cheap facemorph software and a bottle of scotch
Face-averaging technology generated an average face. I'm having a hard time accepting this.
A powerful tool with what? What practical application is there for "I wonder what the average of all these people's faces looks like".
People abducted as children who are now adults can have their parents (and older relatives faces) averaged then combined with their own facial data from being children to give an approximation of how they might look nowadays etc. It's use is mostly forensic, averaging the face of the various Doctors was just a fun little excercise these guys did because it would generate some interest about the technology considering the cultural phenomena that Dr Who (sadly) is.
Miracle day had a cool premise, but was shite
I could see this being used to profile people.
I think that's exactly what it is for.
why do so many people jerk off over dr. who? Serious question, why's it so popular while other good sci-fi drama stuff is ignored?
I think the best way someone explained it to me was that Dr. Who is like the british Batman. It serves it well in many points, even here. There are so many superhero comic books and stories, some really fucking awesome, yet they're glossed over by the big popular names like Batman, superman, spiderman, greenlatern, iron man ect. I personally love Doctor Who because i think the writing in the show (or at least all the way until Moffat took over as lead writer) is absolutely brilliant. Incredibly entertaining, good messages, clever plots and solutions and a complex yet even identifiable and lovable main character that never wishes to cause any sort of violent harm and seeks to solve problems in logical, non violent, and peaceful ways.
also he zooms through fucking time and that shit's neat-o
