Oh fuck we're running behind quick LEGALISE EVERYTHING
It's a shit law.
What were they smoking when they came up with it
Jokes about "Let's go visit Uruguay!" aside I think this could actually have some big implications for their economy and help them grow as a nation.
Some countries become famous for their food. Others become famous for their weed.
Consumption has always been legal. Buying and selling it is still illegal. Now you're allowed to buy it - from the State, which has a monopoly on growing weed. It's ridiculous, I know, no need to remind me.
It will just lower the prices and destroy a profitable industry :(
This shouldn't even be mentioned. You dont go around reeking of beer picking up your kids from kindergarden. Drugs are Drugs everything that somehow changes your perception is to be kept in your social circle not random strangers or places were it would be inappropriate. You share a few beers with your mates in a bar and not during a customer meeting or something. Pisses me off when people go like, "if we legalise it everybody will be stoned all the time". There probably will be people like that but they ain't gonna be better than drunks. All the points that are contra-legalising have no basis and are easily disproven.
The people who would be stoned all the time are the same people that sit around stoned all day now. The differences between now and after legalization is that being a smoker of marijuana will be less of a taboo.
People disagreeing are eighter drug-dealers not wanting their illegal trade made legal and less profitable, or just downright ignorant.
So... not wanting illegal and probably harmful drugs to be made acceptable makes people ignorant, now? Okay, have fun slaughtering your brain cells.
So... not wanting illegal and probably harmful drugs to be made acceptable makes people ignorant, now? Okay, have fun slaughtering your brain cells.
Alcohol is currently legal and is statistically much more damaging to your brain and body than almost any other drug. It's stupid to have a drug such as alcohol legal and not drugs like cannabis which have been shown time and time again to have much less of a causal link to physical or psychological problems. Drugs like cannabis, LSD and magic mushrooms have also all been shown to have very promising medical applications, too. A recent study done in, I want to say Sweden (might be wrong on that, though), showed that dosing old people in an elderly care home with small quantities of LSD helped ease their end of life anxiety and made them much more happy.
The law is designed specifically to prevent that. You have to register to be permitted, and only permanent residents of the country are allowed to register.
..So? What makes you think that the citizens won't just sell to the tourists?
So... not wanting illegal and probably harmful drugs to be made acceptable makes people ignorant, now? Okay, have fun slaughtering your brain cells.
so you're straight edge are you? and you also don't eat junk food or anything like that right? who cares if people are damaging themselves, it's their body. not only that but pretty much every drug isn't even that harmful if you're smart about it
People disagreeing are eighter drug-dealers not wanting their illegal trade made legal and less profitable, or just downright ignorant.
Everyone? Come on, I'm on the side of caution. I think marijuana should be gradually legalized whilst checking to see if we have improved society through such laws. It's no good rushing headlong into it and hoping it works.
Ur a gay
So... not wanting illegal and probably harmful drugs to be made acceptable makes people ignorant, now? Okay, have fun slaughtering your brain cells.
. of Illegal ~ Go check out the Union - a documentary about why exactly marijuana has been made illegal, at least in the states. Then come back with that response. I know you won't . of "PROBABLY" harmful, slaughtering brain cells ~ Oh, I see you are oh so very well informed. Please post the sources of this new information to me, i'd love to read them. I find it funny how you first say probably harmful, but you seem to be quite sure that it kills brain cells. A+ point made there. I'm impressed about the amount of misinformed people here on facepunch about this topic. Then again I was impressed about the amount of misinformed people in the Netherlands, about this very topic. As for Sobotnik, I get that, but how does one "gradually" put a law like this in effect? Only arrest one in three people who smoke it? Make it like the system in the Netherlands where you're allowed to buy but the shop isn't? I'd think putting a proper law in effect that covers all bases would be better than doing it step by step.
..So? What makes you think that the citizens won't just sell to the tourists?
I didn't say it was foolproof, did I? It does mean said citizens would face charges if caught, as would the tourist; meaning the Netherlands would be a much better option overall.
This just in - Uruguay's Tourism industry up 700%.
Uruguayan here. The law actually sucks pretty much and honestly if it were illegal it'd still be blazed up like anywhere else. These laws are kinda stupid if you already know how to live your life by yourself without some entity regulating whatever you do...

Consumption was always legal since like the dictatorship anyways. I don't really like having to inscribe myself in a weedsmoker database to purchase some, and honestly I don't really have the time to seriously take care of plants like my friends do.
