Religion isn't just focused on understanding. A huge part of religions is going out in society and acting out a set of values in order to improve the world.
is this that awful argument that religion is inherently good because it gives you values it isn't hard to realize people can be outstanding without any semblance of faith or a book to reference their values from, and other people can be fucking psychopaths in the name of god because something they don't like can be interpreted as saying something is wrong/a sin/etc it's not a valid argument against not being religious, despite the base point of "religions can give you values' being valid. If your parents were religious and used those values to teach you to be a good person, hey that's awesome. My parents taught me not to be a dick without needing to warn me that when I die I'll be thrown into the earth's molten core and left there for the rest of forever if I wasn't nice.
Religion isn't just focused on understanding. A huge part of religions is going out in society and acting out a set of values in order to improve the world.
you can do that with out religion. religion does that and is able to do that so effectively because it claims to have an objective basis for why it's right over anything else. it's about understanding.
What if I think all gods exist, and in their own plane, conversations go something like this, "Hey Jesus, did you hear Buddha reincarnated that one douche into a newt?" "That's nothing, you should have seen what Zeus did last week."
What always confuses and somewhat irritates me is that when anyone says 'God', immediately people envision this guy, Christianity (or rather it's followers) have seriously screwed over the connotations to God.
Which is why essentially every society out there has some sort of belief system, and Humanity's been practicing religion even before "Humanity" was a thing? To deny spirituality is to deny a basic aspect of what makes us Human.
Humans pursuit the truth, no matter where it lies
