Polish pop star faces up to two years in jail for blasphemy for insulting Bible's writers
I'm not pretending. I'm trying to bac up my opinion.
You are right. It's the intention behind those words and of course you can't limit words and speech. However you can create consequences.
I'll leave the stupid story in the OP out of the calculation for reasonable argumentation.
I agree with this. But (without trying to rip it from your context) that's the point for me.
That's where we should be careful. Of course you are not banning a ord or phrase when you are banning. You are banning the INTENTION!
(and by banning I don't mean removing the possibility of using it, I mean imposing consequences for using it which is almost the same but just almost.
anning on a forum is preventing the user to post, that's different)
Correct here too. You can't limit words or intentions, that's not how the world works. However you can(I'm sorry if I repeat myself, it's not my first language) use a "ban" (may be a ban from media, arrest, whatever) to symbolize:" hey, we think something is wrong with what you are saying (and therefor intending) here and since we are the ones in power, think again."
That's a different level of communicating.
No ban to anything like that should ever happen. It's wrong, it defies the very purpose of freedom to speech, and it's beyond idiotic because it would never work. No limit to speech is reasonable. No one in power should have the ability to say "we don't like this, shut up". That's against EVERYTHING freedom and democracy stand for. If you want fascism, go for it, because that's what you're gong for with this line of thought.

I'm not intending to take it that far.
I'm just thinking that freedom for ecery price is not freedom at all.
Even if that's true that argument is ridiculous. It's the same argument people use to justify Justin Bieber, Soulja Boy, Jonas Brothers, etc.
None of them have managed their own band since they were 16, are qualified museum curators, or outspoken poets. There IS in fact a difference between manufactured pop icons, and the rest of the world.
By the way for the record this law is pretty much draconian, I doubt most Polish citizens knew it existed.

But one limit leads to another limit leading to another limit. You can't have just ONE limit. Eventually speech will be destroyed because people think "Just one more, it'll be ok, just one more" without ever realizing how slippery of a slope silencing people is. No one should be silenced for how they feel. No limit of speech can be broached.

amen
Glorious PZ Myers have also found this.
Quote from Pharyngula:
Poland has blasphemy laws, too — and they're applying them to throw a pop star in prison. Dorota Rabczewska (careful there, she has also posed for Playboy) has said something absolutely unforgivably awful:
In a television interview last year, Doda explained that she found it far easier to believe in dinosaurs than the Bible; "it is hard to believe in something written by people who drank too much wine and smoked herbal cigarettes."
Polish Catholics weren't too pleased. Under Poland's draconian blasphemy law, simply offending someone's religious sensibilities can earn you hefty fines and even imprisonment.
Wait, that's it? One sentence that suggests that the authors of the Bible had been doped out of their minds, and zoom, off to prison for two years? Touchy little cowards, aren't they…
This is a good comment, too:
How can Europeans cry foul when Muslims are offended by a cartoon, when they themselves press charges and demand imprisonment over something as simple as a pop star making negative statements about their religion?

While we're at it (I live in Poland so I know), her nickname is Doda. So people who want to fap to something, got to Google images already.
Well, she has a good point.
The bible could have been written by attention whores for all we know.
Last I checked I believe it was written by a crazed homosexual who had lost his home.

That's him and his band in makeup for concert/photos. He doens't actually go around like that, for Christ's sake. He's a normal guy. He's the lead singer of one of the single most successful death metal bands in existance, and also a fantastic guitarist, who's written some of the most complex instrumentals I've heard. He also plays bass, drums and synth. He's a fucking artist. He studied 6 years of History in University and has a Master's Degree in it. He's a fully qualified Museum curator (I assume it was his job before Behemoth became his full time career), and a year of Latin. He's a genius.
Basically, he plays a character in his stage shows and pictures. They don't reflect him as a person.
This is rediculous. "Your opinion differs from mine, and i don't like it so i'm sending you to jail"

In Germany they have a special censorship unit similar to the FCC, they are allowed to ban any speech they deem hazardous to youth or otherwise. The same is said for France. And in Italy you can be jailed for slandering the pope.
