I hated Oblivion but after seeing the pictures and reading a bit about it, and seeing that its supposed to be released this year I got a bit interested. Hope it really comes out in November though and doesn't get delayed. I'm eager to see if they pushed the franchise forward in a meaningful way.
I'm sure this will be a great game.
But unlike you, I played Oblivion to death.

Dragonborne sounds cooler.
Problem is that Dragonborne does not mean the same as Dragonborn.
Though dynamically generating quests in nearby dungeons which you haven't explored is pretty neat in its own right.
If there's one thing I've seen in dynamically-generated quests, it is that sooner or later, you'll notice patterns and similarities. Eventually it'll feel just as generic as the others. Unless they have some huge new system that can generate entirely new quests without any sort of template.
Hmmm... my biggest interests lie with the "non time-stopping" conversations and the new menus.
I'm no hardcore PC man who hates consoles, but it seems the new "streamlined" menus have been made solely to help with navigation using a gamepad/controler.
Not necessarily bad things, but they are my biggest concerns of what might be a game breaker.
[editline]11th January 2011[/editline]
Also I'm 99% sure it will be mod-able.
Bethesda seems to sympathize and enjoy the players modding the game. For the last 3 releases they included a construction kit.
I wish that Bethesda would just remove quick travel. Sure, it's convenient, but I'm like few people who choose to explore and take in the views rather than just click on a map to go from A to B in an instant. It'd be nice if others got to experience that and actually plan out their trips.
Also I'd rather much prefer for text based conversations. They allow for lots of topics without impacting file size. You can clearly see the difference in Morrowind and Oblivion, so much to talk about in Morrowind but with Oblivion you could only talk about the current town you were in, latest rumors and quest related stuff.
Also as said earlier, level scaling would be good, but in a different fashion. As the player levels up the NPCs get more tactical in fights, but there should also be dungeons at fixed levels to set the pace for the game (slashing your way through a daedric dungeon at level 1 shouldn't be possible). Also fixed level guards (at a high level), hated how the guards were easy as crap to kill in Oblivion at lower levels.
Won't fast travel just make casual players go "Fuck scenery!"?
Who cares?
If you like scenery, go explore it. If you don't, fast travel. It's an optional choice.
I hope they have like disfigurement or dismemberment. So disappointing in Oblivion that when I kill enemies with a huge sword/axe/hammer, their dead bodies gently fall and pose into pretty little plastic toys.

I agree. They have proven that they can still sell copies like mad in spite of the gore with fallout 3.
Dismemberment would be amazing.
Bonus points for permanent scarring appearing on your character model as the result of particularly grievous wounds. (Removable for a fee)

I do like exploring, but I'm lazy so I just fast travel everywhere. :saddowns:

Instead of Fast-Travel, DRAGONS!
Oh man, it would be so awesome if enchantments actually added effects to weaponry
For example, fire enchantment would cause a sword to emit dim flames around its blade, akin to Quietus from HeXen

Just so you know, why not get a wildlife mod, to lower the density of the wildlife around you. Comeback response.

No, fast travel isn't just an option.
If there was fast travel along with silt striders/guild guides/boats than I would be fine with it. But since it is the only effective way of moving about then its kinda mandatory.
The graphics look kinda strange to me, like some Gothic game, or Risen. Maybe i'm too used to Morrowind and just despise everything that looks different in TES.

Holy fuck, not even that into development and the game already looks quite a few times better than Oblivion.
Take that, Gamebryo.
The more I read about this game, the more hyped I get. Bethesda? Please don't let me down
It would be cool if games like this used the Euphoria physics engine. How awesome would it be to see the impact on your enemy when hit with your sword? Maybe hit his legs so he falls down etc.

Actually they started work on Skyrim immediately after Oblivion.

You don't have to use fast travel. If you feel like wandering around without a care in the world, by all means go ahead. Nothing's stopping you.

Again I will repost.
Because there is no alternative to fast travel such as guild guides, boats, and silt striders, fast travel is basically required. Otherwise you would get very bored of walking around everywhere.
It's not the fact that Fast Travel makes it easier to get around, it just makes it so that Beth can be lazy with the environments, because they know people will use Fast Travel a ton.
Look at Morrowind. To this date, I still find places where I just stare at the screen in awe, compared to Oblivion's "Oh look, forest. Oh look, Mountain".

Yea I should of mentioned that in my post. Instead of fast travel the methods of travel should be as you said, the methods available in Morrowind. Those were good because you were restricted to your travels and they cost gold to do. Also in those methods of travels there would be no possible chance of coming across an enemy NPC, but when you fast travel there is a chance, certainly because if you walk your way you come across a few animals to fight. Talking about that though, I hope there are more "passive" animals in Skyrim.

Sadly that's true. The only time I ever felt amazed by the environment was looking at the Imperial City when walking between it and Chorrol. None of the environments (swamps to east, snow to north, forests to west) had interesting landscapes, well maybe some points up north but that's it.
Hmm, I just re-read the section concerning forging weapons and stuff.
Cooking?
Nexus mod's will now look ugly compared to the sexy vanilla game.
I wonder if they'll add player owned shops that generate money over-time with the weapons/good you either get from looting or have NPCs do the work for you. (Aka a smithy, or an alchemist ect...)
Nexus mod's will now look ugly compared to the sexy vanilla game.
And yet the next generation of Nexus mods will still defile Skyrim on release day
[editline]13th January 2011[/editline]
But seriously, Skyrim is turning out to be awesome. I hope the combat is funner than oblivion's though, oblivion combat felt stale without deadly reflex, and even then it still wasn't great

There are horses. Speaking of which, get off your high horse; Some of us don't have time to travel everywhere without fast travel. It'd get pretty repetitive travelling back and forth between cities without fast travel.

As he did say, alternate methods of transport such as guild guides and boats could be used, and they would be nice features in Skyrim if "point and click" fast travel was removed. Also hoping for ride-able dragons, that'd be awesome/
I wonder what annoying ass NPC will follow you around this time when you're Arena champ.
I also can't wait to see what ma'iq the liar will say in this one
