This has probably been discussed in other threads, but has any country ever defaulted before?
Soviet Russia did after the Revolution iirc.
In the end, Obama will still be made the criminal when we default. Republicans can easily say they tried and failed with him, and bail themselves out. And Obama will just be left with the mess the Republicans left him with when it comes to "who did it" for the default.
Not really, more people realize that the republicans are at fault than people think that democrats are at fault.
Yeeeeep I knew it, I actually expected some sort of compromise to come up, but we're gonna actually default. Oh well, R.I.P America.
The democrats have no reason to compromise, all a compromise would do is get rid of the ACA and insure that this kind of budget hostage situation happens every year.
The democrats have no reason to compromise, all a compromise would do is get rid of the ACA and insure that this kind of budget hostage situation happens every year.
Either we lose everything, or continue having stuff like this. Losing everything, crashing the market, and causing another great depression doesn't seem like a good option when it's looked at in detail.
I don't think the tea party is dumb enough to not raise the debt ceiling. Its a bluff they're trying to use as leverage against Obama and sway eyes away from there failings. In the end they'll fold and raise the ceiling but at the last possible second, Obama is just calling there bluff.
Really, we can only dodge this sort of thing for only so long, it's bound to happen eventually if it doesn't this time.
Do these retards fucking know that they're affecting the whole world and not only America with their petty squabbling? If the fucking USA defaults the EU and other countries will be fucked again just as we're about to recover from the last recession
how long before the angry mobs charge the capitol?
Really just blowing out of proportion now. There won't be massive rallies or riots or murders all over the country when we default. It'll take a long time before the major effects start rolling in. If we do default, Obama will still have some time to find something to fix the issues.
This better not hit China or else Australia gets hit. gg America on screwing everyone over you cunts [editline]13th October 2013[/editline] recession time oh boy
Either we lose everything, or continue having stuff like this. Losing everything, crashing the market, and causing another great depression doesn't seem like a good option when it's looked at in detail.
First off, even if it doesn't get raised on the 17th there won't be an instant default because there is still money that will keep repayments up for some time. Second, like I said earlier the republicans are getting much more flak for this than the democrats. Third, if there is a compromise what happens next year when the budget is held hostage and the year after, and after that?
This better not hit China or else Australia gets hit. gg America on screwing everyone over you cunts [editline]13th October 2013[/editline] recession time oh boy
Everyone will get hit, just like the last depression/recession. You guys are at least lucky enough to not have politics like the US.
In all honesty....why would Obama risk this sort of thing to happen? Obviously no one wants it to happen, something has to give otherwise shit hits the fan, so COME UP WITH SOMETHING ALREADY!
First off, even if it doesn't get raised on the 17th there won't be an instant default because there is still money that will keep repayments up for some time. I didn't want to call you out on that because that alone should be plainly obvious.
In all honesty....why would Obama risk this sort of thing to happen? Obviously no one wants it to happen, something has to give otherwise shit hits the fan, so COME UP WITH SOMETHING ALREADY!
Because all extending the debt ceiling for 6 weeks would do is insure the partial shutdown lasts 6 weeks longer. He didn't extend it so that the republicans will be forced to concede earlier.
It'd last however long the president serves his term. I didn't want to call you out on that because that alone should be plainly obvious.
So what happens if a republican majority occurs, they pass a big law and the democrats hold the budget hostage in order to get rid of it?
In all honesty....why would Obama risk this sort of thing to happen? Obviously no one wants it to happen, something has to give otherwise shit hits the fan, so COME UP WITH SOMETHING ALREADY!
Cause, he wants to save his precious ACA and not look like the criminal when it's really the Republicans. Honestly, ACA won't do jack shit when we default, so he did all this for precisely dick
I guess i'd be in the best place i could be if it does happen. California would probably be okay.
I guess i'd be in the best place i could be if it does happen. California would probably be okay.
ain't that because california is broke as fuck anyways
Everyone will get hit, just like the last depression/recession. You guys are at least lucky enough to not have politics like the US.
So goddamn annoying that the US is a superpower and can affect everyone's lives even though your politics are a total mess. Why the hell I on the other side of the world from you must get affected financially just because the Republicans are a huge bunch of cunts?
All I'm worried about now is how Louisiana is going to take this. It's already the most dangerous state, crime will just go up more and more with defaults. Starting with robberies and home invasions. Not gonna enjoy this at fuckin' all.

When the default happens, the US won't be a superpower anymore(yay for us), but someone will take over that spot and who knows what they'll do then.
ain't that because california is broke as fuck anyways
well if worse comes to worse we could always break away from the US, we have a strong enough economy to.
well if worse comes to worse we could always break away from the US, we have a strong enough economy to.
The Republic of California would be a cool country, actually, if I ever move back to Florida they could do the same too. They have a good enough economy to last a good while.
The Republic of California would be a cool country, actually, if I ever move back to Florida they could do the same too. They have a good enough economy to last a good while.
California's economy is the 12th largest economy in the world (2012),[7] if the states of the U.S. were compared with other countries.[8][9][10] As of 2010, the gross state product (GSP) is about $1.9 trillion, which is 13.06% of the United States gross domestic product (GDP)[11] The state's GDP growth rate slowed to 0.4% in 2008 after having grown 3.1% in 2006 and 1.8% in 2007.[12] As of August 2013, the United States Department of Labor reports that California has the fifth-highest unemployment rate in the nation at 8.9 percent.[13] yeeep :D
My wet dream is a EU federation being formed, doubt it'll ever happen tho
EU will more than likely take over America's spot. It'll have a stronger economy than us, and definitely a better functioning government, AKA a parliament that hasn't had any form of issues like the US is having.
The title is very misleading. He's refusing a petty 6 week extension offered by the House because he wants a much longer one. He's not refusing to raise the debt ceiling until a period of 6 weeks has passed.
This better not hit China or else Australia gets hit. gg America on screwing everyone over you cunts [editline]13th October 2013[/editline] recession time oh boy
We avoided the GFC, we never had a period without growth. I'm sure we can avoid another recession. Although I suppose with the GFC we had people who knew what they were doing in charge, now we have the Coalition in power with their antique economic policy.
