Schools are so stupid about copyright. They'll ban changing ONE word to "black man", but then they will completely misunderstand copyright and say "You can use anyone's picture as long as it doesn't have a copyright watermark".

It's actually for legal reasons probably. You can't just modify a script without permission from the company that owns the rights to it. You have to ask permission first from that company. It could be that the company refused to let them remove the word.

Reminds me of a play I saw in the summer. basically this guy's story about growing up and living in a white straight world as a gay black man. opening/closing lines were something to the effect of "nigger. fag. without these words, how am I supposed to talk about my struggle?"

So what? They only say the N word a few times. Compared to Huck Finn (which isn't a racist novel, it's just the dialect of the geographical time and place) which uses it on nearly every page at least once.

Nigger is just a word. Saying it isn't derogatory unless you mean it derogatorily. Calling a black person a nigger is more than likely derogatory, but just saying it in conversation or in context (ie. A fucking kids play) is not.
In my class we read an article about this when we read TKAM, just had our test on the book yesterday, but any ways, that's so fucking stupid, it uses nigger not as a slur against black people, but to show how they were treated back then, the fuck is this.

Nigger doesn't mean "black slave", what the fuck are you on about? Nigger comes from the Spanish/Portuguese negro, meaning a person of dark skin, which itself comes from the Latin niger which means black. Nigger is used as a pejorative term and is an ethnic slur, but it does not in any way mean "black slave".
