I think it might be more accurate to say that the USSR under stalin's state religion was Stalinism. He was a big fan of the idea of "Cult of personality" and made himself the centre of much of the state. I imagine he personally was against the idea of homosexuality and so that was a policy that spilled over.
He banned male homosexuality within the first year of his reign, so he's definitely the one at fault for it. Reasons vary for why, but often in Stalin-era media and such homosexuality was painted as a right-wing plot of some kind, so safe to say it was used as a cudgel for convenient use on party enemies. Successive governments kept it for a variety of reasons, so Russians have essentially been fed a diet of anti-LGBT propaganda since 1933; and while the law was repealed in 1993, not much changed.
The VAST majority of posters here don't believe in religion.
So your goal was to piss off the ones that do? Like I don't get it, what was the point of even posting?
I came in here expecting to read about more religious fundamentalism in the US deep south instead I find it's in fucking New South Wales.
Ya know believe or not any time there's a religious organization at any Southern School it's optional. Most kid will goto it because they usually serve food and tend to be around lunch time to basically getting fed grilled hotdogs/burgers and being out of class for the rest of the day is a tempting prospect. But if you're going to preach religion is school, let it be run by the students not a teacher because that is REALLY fucking stupid.Good example at my school is there's a student Christian organization, but they're not pushing you to go or demanding you, it's usually. "Hey come have some breakfast on us and a few minutes of your time so we can enlighten you on true meaning of Christianity." It's usually a life story and a moral for you to think on during that day, even though I'm Christian myself I don't exactly like the preachy aspect of it, so I don't be a dick and go to get free food and leave.
I mean I get that you have a whole repertoire for defending religion, but I'm not attacking it.
Please get bant, edgelord [editline]17th August 2014[/editline]
Really.
