What's wrong with it being on a handheld?
I had the DS version and since the game has download play, meaning only one person needs to have the cart so everyone can play given they have their 3DSs, there were a number of times I was able to start up a game with people, whether it was at someones place or waiting in line or during a slow day at school.
Plus having separate screens helps expand the possibilities for minigames since now you can have people see different stuff without having to split the screen into fourths or suffer from screenpeeking. Having it on handheld helps immensely seeing as how you can start a game anywhere.
I mean, at least it isn't a mainline title, where they ruined it by making a mini-game only happening once in a decade and everyone moves at once.
Holy fuck how do you ruin Mario Party so badly
Mario Party 10 isn't bad, it's just different and everyone loves to bitch any time Nintendo does something different. Bowser mode is also a ton of fun.

Also MP10 has the option to only use skill-based minigames
MP1 is still my favorite in the series, save for the "Ruin your hand with this rough hard plastic stick" minigames.
But Star Road looks fresh and kind of fun, at least.
might be a good thing depending on who you ask
personally playing video games with my parents was the worst thing i've ever tried to do
On the flipside, if it weren't for my dad I would've never been playing UT99 at age 6, Half-Life at age 8, and HL2/GMod/CS:S at age 9. He's the sole reason I've right now got a custom built PC and a games library 450+ strong, not to mention I'm now one of the fastest typers I know and am the tech-savviest person in the house now.
If he hadn't showed me this shit, I probably wouldn't even have an FP account because I'd be too busy playing fucking Madden or something AT BEST on consoles instead because my life would've been totally different

It's not change that passes people off, it's bad change that does it.
Take the resident evil series as an example. 4 is widely considered the best in the series, and that's a huge change from the first three and shit like Code Veronica. Meanwhile, people are iffy about 5 and everyone hates 6, but 7, being another huge change for the series with it now being first person, has everyone's interest piqued because it's clearly going back to its survival horror roots.
Change can be for the better, but unfortunately, it can also be for the worse.
The problem with MP10 is that despite the claim to have skilled minigames there's no actual skill in the main boards due to the car itself and how random the rolls are.
The undersea map for example in it has random guessing games for treasure for whoever is in control of the car when they pass a spot- the reward from these treasure chests can be up to 20 mini-stars if I recall- more than 2 minigames worth just on a chance. Ontop of this the ministars are thrown around the map at random and reward whoevers turn it is at the time- there's absolutely nothing skilled based about it.
Then there's the total removal of any and all items- all you have is a couple dice and that's it. There's no optional paths you can take if you use a item at the right time, there's no way to swap turns taken, there's no way to initiate duels... nothing. Just dice. It sucks a whole dimension out of the board games.
Then there's the boss fights where you can be in a tie with someone but whoever lands the final blow gets +3 and just wins for no reason. Some games it makes sense that there's a tie breaker like that but others it's just unfair and makes me pissed off to even keep playing. One minigame for example has you all pick a card and each player takes a turn attacking. Let's say the boss has a small amount of HP left- Player 4 picks the highest damage card right away that's going to let him win. Player 1 picks a card. Player 3 then picks his followed by player 2.
Player 1 hits the boss, player 2 hits the boss, player 3 hits the boss and kills it getting +3 points pushing him past player 4. Player 4 doesn't get anything despite being the fastest and picking the best card. That's not fair at all and a inherit flaw of the system, if Player 4 loses because bosses are worth more you can't call that skill based.
The car mechanic has a ton of deep suited issues and it's why Star Rush is such a breath of fresh air. Star Rush shines when it gives you wide open maps to choose where you wanna go/how you advance while levels that are basically just straight lines suck ass. The only problem Star Rush has in my opinion is that it keeps the stupid boss thing I just mentioned.

Especially when you have a crazed maniac insist on 50 turns like Dan Ryckert.

Okay but how many households have a 3ds for every single member of the family?
