Britain's Cameron seeks ban on high-powered semi-automatic weapons
no, you can get semi ARs in the UK with a straight pull bolt
i don't see the point in the ban. most firearm crimes commited in the UK are done with handguns, which are already completely illegal.
those aren't semi-auto anymore though
This would be a reasonable request from someone who didn't have a referendum looming for ditching the EU. Cameron has no such plans so I suppose it's a reasonable request.
That'll stop the terrists from buying their AK-47's in the convenience store. Especially in the UK.
iunno about you but i'd like to see the European Union centralize into a more powerful state
I'd like to see the EU dissolved
In an effort to curb terrorism?
You think that fucking terrorists care about the law?
Don't you think that the legal firearms market contributes to the illegal market? People use professional produced weapons, not piperifles. Everything is legal at some point.
Within the schengen zone, its important you do these things together, there only need to be one weak link, and you can import/export it everywhere else, without much chance of getting caught.

yeah we sure produce metric shittons of fully automatic AKMs in Europe
oh wait not even Russia makes them anymore but they're still being used to kill people in France
Can't we have a government that doesn't embarrass us internationally for one month.

I never claimed its completely flawless, just because they managed to get their hands on banned weapons, doesn't mean that it hasn't stopped anyone else.
Many European countries allow civilian firearms ownership. Britain should not be trying to make Italy or Poland or anyone else give up their guns by trying to force it with the EU. That's not what the EU is for.

Sadly guns are illegal as shit here already. Didn't make the Gun Crimes drop to Britains level though.
They ain't gonna take our Finnish guns, hunting especially with semi-auto shotguns is an absolutely massive deal here, and we have a very Murrica-like mentality of national defense being aided by guerrilla citizens in case our main army gets rolled over by Russia
If the EU fucks up the Finnish gun scene, the backlash is going to be as immense as if guns were banned in America
Well the defense minister already kinda said fuck no last month http://www.hs.fi/talous/a1448604373908
Nah, only the grumpy old people and morons wanted to leave.
cameron is powered by embarrassment
his forehead will grow two inches from this event at least

I thought Poland had fairly reasonable gun laws. My condolences :(

That would require politicians who have specialties in different areas in society and be able to propose legislation sensibly based on their experience. As long as we allow career-politicians into government and politics, this is what we'll have to endure.
The one thing that unites mainland Europeans and Americans in opposition of gun control: the fact that it's England who's asking for it.

You're thinking of the Czech Republic, which is one of the only other concealed-carry nations besides America in the world.
those aren't semi-auto anymore though
thanks you're only the 4th person to say this
Um, a lot of nations in the EU practice and enjoy their firearms freedoms. It's not OK for Britain to go around trying to force their wonderland laws on everyone else considering they never made a measurable impact on crime to begin with.
Yeah, even as a gun control advocate here in the states, outright bans are stupid and statistically don't do shit, and the UK's gun laws wouldn't really benefit the rest of Europe.

Cameron talking out of his ass yet again. we need better regulation on shotgun licenses and handgun trade, not this shit that affects competition shooters only.
And coincidentally across the channel many countries have lower incidences of firearm-related violence without the outright bans.

Fuck, that's one of the main reasons I'm looking at getting an AR-15. Last time I qualified with my unit, I hit a 27 out of 40, barely passing. I managed 35 out of 40 in BCT, so the fact that I can't hit shit right now pisses me off.
I've got a valid reason for having one. I just have to scrape together the time and money.
What? They have the lowest gun ownership rate across the whole of Europe, and some of the most strict laws, and self-defense gun permits are only issued if you can proof your life is in "constant, substantial and higher than average" danger.
I'm not sure how firearms for militia use are controlled and legislated in Poland, and how the use of weapons for such a purpose factor in the statistics, but I saw a news segment about it a few months back:
https://news.vice.com/video/the-russians-are-coming-natos-frontier
They start talking about volunteer militias around the 8 minute mark.
Also the Poles are apparently becoming increasingly fond of firearms:
But they did make a measurable impact on fatalities (and crimes involving guns) which was the point.
A measurable impact, sure

Don't think it was quite the impact you were thinking, though.
