Anyone else's Sims 2 never progress past showing a splash screen of "Fun with Pets"?

Steam used to do that and put the results on a public hardware survey, didn't see anyone bitching then. And even if they were looking for pirated games, how the fuck could they tell? The only games they've released so far that are Origin exclusive are ME3 and BF3 (maybe BF4 if that's out). They can't exactly search for "Razor1911.exe" and get reliable results.

It is highly likely that I've over looked it due to the sheer amount of stuff, but the scissors, one of the last free Sim Day items before Stuff Packs became the norm, doesn't seem to be there. I demand a refund on this free game(not really) if I am to be cheated out of my Sims killing themselves via running with scissors.

I have that black square shadow glitch on Sims 2 and downing shadow quality does absolutely nothing. Anyone know what's wrong? Also glasses don't show the lens at all, they just fail to render.
