I see no source in the article, is this just speculation?

remember this? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-south-asia-10740817 35 dollars
if this is true than say hello to only like 20 surface tablets ever sold
Maybe not for the one with the i5 processor, but it's certainly way too fucking expensive for the ARM one.
The iPad is $500 for the 16GB version, $599 for the 32GB. I don't think Microsoft would even consider 16GB (because of Windows' size), and everything points to either 32 or 64GB. Now put the periphial connectors into the equation - it's not cheap, but I wouldn't call it outrageous compared to the iPad. Android tablets aren't very cheap either. I picked up my Xoom for $330 last October. 32GB. These are like way expensive in comparison. If they want to fight in the market at all they have to be competitively priced

Hell, look at how HTC priced their tablets (though they didn't really sell any). And the i5 tablet is definitely the one appealing to me as well.
let's wait though. and if we wait long enough the first-gens might get really cheap (when gen 2 rolls around)
Does that price include the keyboard? Because if it does, think of adding the price of a keyboard to the iPad and compare it afterwards.
You need to be a student in India (afaik) to buy it for that price though, and the specs don't compare in any way.
sure but what you expect for 17th of the cost.
sure but what you expect for 17th of the cost.
Not much. Now, why are you seemingly comparing it to this product?
Does that price include the keyboard? Because if it does, think of adding the price of a keyboard to the iPad and compare it afterwards.
Nope. As much as the keyboard was heavily pimped (instead of say, the software that you'd actually use on the damn thing), the keyboard is separate. [editline]22nd June 2012[/editline] As bad as the Surface at $600 is, if it did launch at that price, in 6 months Apple would release the iPad 4th gen, dropping the iPad 3 to $399, and since the iPad 3 has a far bigger resolution than the Surface, and presumably ballpark performance, that Surface is going to be a tough sell. [editline]22nd June 2012[/editline] Also remember Google on monday is rumoured to be launching their Nexus Tablet. It won't be any good, but MS would get shafted by both competitors if they launched at $600
Also remember Google on monday is rumoured to be launching their Nexus Tablet. Like I said unless they want to flop and bail on another product they have to actively advertise and competitively price the thing.
I love how Microsoft manages to fuck everything they make. If you're stupid enough to spend 600 bucks on a tablet, you'll most likely want to spend it on an iPad with thousands of apps and which is known to be working fine. Someone need to tell them the less expensive the Surface, the more people will want to buy it. Making either more or at the least the same amount of profit by enlarging the userbase.
except the entire article is based off rumors so you shouldn't just jump to the microsoft hate bandwagon as usual
It's not too bad. I'm still sort of interested in this, especially the i5 version. I'll have to hold one in my hand and try it out to decide, I think.

Hmm we've seen this price elsewhere?
Yeah tablets are expensive, and I bet this won't be nearly as good as the i5 one so what is the point.
Calm your dicks. Last I remember, the iPad and galaxy tabs cost the same amount. Plus, this is all rumors. Nothing solid yet. [editline]22nd June 2012[/editline]
I doubt it that the pricing is true, though there are better and faster tablets that are cheaper. I probably wouldn't ever buy this.
the surface tablet has some of the best specs out there, there's certainly nothing out there right now that is better or faster than it.

This would be a reasonable price for the i5 one, but this is the AMD one.
Couldn't give a shit if it is wifi only Just purchase one of them and you're good to go
600 bucks? I could buy a Model-T Ford back in the day for that price...
Suddendly inflation happened.
So not only is microsoft ripping off the looks of the iPad, they're ripping its price off too? GJ microsoft.
So not only is microsoft ripping off the looks of the iPad, they're ripping its price off too? GJ microsoft.
They're ripping off the looks how?
I was hoping it would be 500$ but oh well. [editline]22nd June 2012[/editline] (and this is without including the price of the touch cover)
They're ripping off the looks how?
curved edges
but this is the AMD one.
*nVidia
still, you get much more value from a surface than from an iPad
lack of 3g or 4g or whatever isn't really important as this thing has a usb slot and windows, just pop in a 4g stick and you're all set.. that's what makes it so great. [editline]22nd June 2012[/editline] Plus you're paying for a full operating system, compared to the simplified OS' of Android and iOS it really isn't that bad of a price.
