• Donald Trump denounced by MPs in debate about possible ban

Am I the only person who thinks that it's stupid that parliament even debated this? There are far more important things to debate than whether Donald Trump should be allowed into the country.

If he's such a blithering idiot that he is banned from one of the major NATO and UN powers, it will probably severely damage his reputation and electability (not that he is electable in the slightest bit already). For that reason, I believe they won't vote to ban him, as at Westminster it's not policy to interfere with the elections of other nations. If interference was run behind closed doors with no press, I wouldn't be surprised, but this is far too public to be feasible.
I appreciate the optimism, especially comparing it to a fictional event that was pretty much laughed at by everyone. We live in a reality where Trump is leading by a wide margin, and Hillary might get the Democrat nomination. Which makes me wonder, what will progressives do when that happens? That's a difficult position to be in!
Trump leads in fringe voters, duh of fucking course. But he's no where in lead of anything in the grand scheme.
Donald Trump was branded a racist demagogue, a buffoon and a “wazzock” in the British parliament
I didn't realize Craig Charles was an MP :v:
Are you being serious here? The US itself doesn't even have true free speech so its asinine to criticize European nations for not having it.
I think there is a significant enough difference between the free speech in the US and in the UK to be notable. A lot of things that arent allowed in the UK are allowed in the US speech wise but the reverse isnt true.
Am I the only person who thinks that it's stupid that parliament even debated this? There are far more important things to debate than whether Donald Trump should be allowed into the country.
Yeah, we asked them to debate it.
Yeah, we asked them to debate it.
All of the really "popular" petitions are pointless or stupid and the parliament shouldn't debate them, such as "Vote no confidence in David Cameron", "Stop all immigration and close the UK borders until ISIS is defeated." or "Benjamin Netanyahu to be arrested for war crimes when he arrives in London" All of these have 100,000+ signatures and parliament didn't debate them.
Though Trump is stupid and I don't support him, I have to disagree here. The whole concept of 'hate speech' is stupider than Trump. If I want to insult someone I should be free to do so and on any basis I want.
The poll was more about how some ohter pople got banned from the uk for "hate speech" so it was a case of "well if Tyler the Creator gets banned thne trump should be banned too." I do not agree with "hate speech" but it's clear it's just an excuse for politicians to throw their weight around and make their opinions law.
Facepunchers become increasingly nervous as Donald Trump continues to be the number 1 republican candidate.
What if they banned him, an he got elected president. Would England just sever diplomatic ties with the United States?
Parliament already said they won't ban him.
Facepunchers become increasingly nervous as Donald Trump continues to be the number 1 republican candidate.
I'm becoming increasingly happy [editline]20th January 2016[/editline]
What if they banned him, an he got elected president. Would England just sever diplomatic ties with the United States?
There was never any chance that he would be banned from the UK from the start.
Influence and power. Trump is running to be the president of the most influential and powerful country in the world. Boycotting Trump is more important than boycotting some random racist mayor or whatever, because it shows the rest of the world that a huge number of people in high places think he's a total dick
If you want to ban Trump from your country just to keep him out of your country so be it that's your business If you want to ban Trump from your country specifically to affect his chances of winning our election then fuck off, its our election, not yours. Stay out of our politics
Banning somebody because you disagree with them is silly.
Banning somebody because you disagree with them is silly.
And again, the point is not because the British people want it, but because parliament already did it before... again see the whole "Tyler the Creator" fiasco. Whole whole poll was basically our way of saying "What applies to the poor must also apply to the rich, by your own rules and judgement if people like Tyler the Creator should be banned then so should trump!" What this goes to prove is that if you invest enough money into golf courses you can get away with shit you otherwise could not and that UK politics can be purchased.
Trump is just another hitler imo
Nice Free speech, Europe.
Are you full blown retarded? So because trump is a dumb piece of shit nobody's allowed to call him out? If this is what the idea of free speech is I'll commit suicide right now
What if they banned him, an he got elected president. Would England just sever diplomatic ties with the United States?
That would never happen. We'd never seriously ban anybody that could be President. It's like the guy in the debate said, "and ultimately baffoonery should not be met with the blunt instrument of a ban, but with the classic British response of ridicule." I guess the only reason we feel like we can mock this guy publicly is because we're so close to you as an ally, diplomatically we can get away with it :v:
