grazing fire would be the term used in this case. suppressive fire is used to keep would-be attackers behind cover to give squadmates time to flank
If you accept wikipedia as a source,
In military science, suppressive fire is area denial fire that degrades the performance of an enemy force below the level needed to fulfill their mission.
I'm not saying you're wrong, though. [editline]19th February 2013[/editline]
Yeah, because bullets aren't scary in real life right? I can easily shrug off 30 rounds being fired at my general direction
Clearly, the would-be assailant is going to freeze in place when he realizes he's not been hit by the first couple of many rounds to come.
Unfortunately, this isn't a videogame.
grazing fire / suppressing fire never works in video games though so I guess you mean fortunately? because RL is probably the only time grazing fire would be effective
Unfortunately, this isn't a videogame.
you know nothing about firearms and you know nothing about military tactics why do you even bother posting
Unfortunately, this isn't a videogame.
in videogames there's no such thing as suppressing fire because made-up people and people playing games aren't scared of getting shot. so what are you even on about?
If grazing or suppressing fire didn't work in real life then half the reason Automatic Riflemen and their weapons exist would be pointless.
Yeah, because bullets aren't scary in real life right? I can totally just shrug off 30 rounds being fired at my general direction Plus, I bet you're getting all of your firearms knowledge from video games and movies. Clearly you can't see how unwieldy double barrel shotguns are.
Pff its just .308, what could possibly happen? look at this fool
honestly i'd go with something more like a mossberg or a remington for home defense. i mean you literally cannot say you definitely won't need the 6 or so more shells. you literally cannot know. i don't think 8 shells for home defence is excessive at all.
you know nothing about firearms and you know nothing about military tactics why do you even bother posting
Well I would pose the same question to you but I realized that little would be actually gained from such lessons on your part.
BUTTWAIT YOU GUISE I THINK JOE BIDEN'S ON TO SOMETHING JAMES BOND HIMSELF USES DOUBLE BARRELS FOR HOME DEFENSE
in videogames there's no such thing as suppressing fire because made-up people and people playing games aren't scared of getting shot. so what are you even on about?
Suppressing fire is effective in PvP ArmA and Red Orchestra and the like. Any game where you're really punished for being shot.
Suppressing fire is effective in PvP ArmA and Red Orchestra and the like. Any game where you're really punished for being shot.
Well, in those kinds of games dying tends to matter. So you get more immersed with your character and try to avoid getting shot.
Well I would pose the same question to you but I realized that little would be actually gained from such lessons on your part.
did you now?
Erm...Joe...you may have a point, the best self-defense weapon you could have is a 1911 with hollowpoint .45ACP...but that doesn't change the fact that not every gun is purchased for self defense. Some are used for...get this...recreational shooting. They are a hobby for millions of Americans, myself included. now I wouldn't buy an AR15, not too fond of them myself would rather have a kalashnikov, but my point still stands. So stop trying to ban them you moron.
to be perfectly honest the best self defense weapon isn't something you can go out and buy. it helps to have a gun but with the right training you can defend yourself with anything
what about a resin figure of japanese anime sensation Hatsune Miku
what about a resin figure of japanese anime sensation Hatsune Miku
You can beat someone to death with it, so I guess so.
BUTTWAIT YOU GUISE I THINK JOE BIDEN'S ON TO SOMETHING JAMES BOND HIMSELF USES DOUBLE BARRELS FOR HOME DEFENSE
You're silly, that's Putin in the picture!
Sobotnik's advice when attacked by three intruders = invest in a triple barrel shotgun. His advice if you miss = let them kill you.
Just put a pitchfork on the bottom and rush them like a lunatic.
Just put a pitchfork on the bottom and rush them like a lunatic.
you're in for some serious ass-forkin
"You don't need a super cool space gun to defend yourself." But you don't know me, what if I live in Detroit or some shit? The individual should decide what he needs or wants to defend himself, not some dude. Some dude won't know the living situation of everyone ever, so he has no right to tell you what you need.
you're in for some serious ass-forkin
I think hollering that phrase at an attacker in the dark might be just as effective as a firearm, if not more. I don't want to get ass forked at 3am.
OR you don't get a weapon at all? Like the civilized people we are here in Scandinavia?
This is what everyone should use.
Just for Dear Leader Joe Biden, I'll design and build a semi-automatic double barrel shotgun that holds 28 rounds, 14 rounds per barrel. If a double barrel shotgun is the best defensive weapon available then this shall be the best self defense weapon of all time.
Okay Mr. Biden, I'll take a single barrel shotgun. The UTS-15. 14 rounds of 12 gauge.
What kills me is, for those who have never handled a full sized rifle/shotgun indoors before; you don't understand how massively unwieldy it is and how you cannot maintain sighting and turn in hallways/smaller rooms at all. A handgun's size is what gives it such a great edge in home defense. It is easily brought around, sighted, put around corners, or held safely away while your free hand operates things like doors, locks and etcetera. Even if you're stuck with a low capacity, compact 1911 clone - you still have six or seven shots and the ability to reload in only a second or two. Please, tell me how easy it is to break open a double-barrel and exchange two shells. Even if I lived in a spacey area, I still wouldn't be fond of a shotgun. Yes, the pump ones have that classic racking noise, and yes, they're big guns. But for what? You fire bird shot, the guy is in pain, but maybe not down; and you've royally fucked up anything behind him. Same goes with buck; though it's certainly going to fare better than birdshot. Finally, you have slugs; which would certainly stop someone. But so would plain old hollow-points. Or a rifle. Or a tazer. People with no firearm knowledge: Shotguns aren't a hallway clearing super device. Depending on the choke used (and even with the absolutely most inaccurate configurations) it would still be possible to miss a human target in a small hallway with buck or bird shot. Especially if the gun sighted like garbage; or in this panic we call adrenaline, you shoot too early. There's no definite "best home defense" weapon because everyone's respective homes, firearm training, and mindsets are different. Biden can shove a shotgun up his ass for all I care; I sleep a lot happier with a pistol by my side, a good alarm system, and a locked bedroom door. :v:

here in the uk we apparently throw apples at home invaders and it works
