great what are you Brits doing over there? You're giving prisoners a better quality of life than the poor and letting them keep all their rights. Who would be hesitant to break the law over there if they knew they'd get a decent life in prison, pay for their work and still be able to vote?

If a Political Party want to change something about the justice system, obviously it'd be best to ask the prisoners.
Prisoners SHOULD have the right to vote, it's a human right apparently. You cannot claim to be a democratic country if you deny the right to vote to a sub section of your population. I am sure that is something certain countries do to stop people voting for specific parties.
Prisoners obviously shouldn't have some of the rights they do in the UK (and access to stuff they do) but the right to vote is something EVERYONE should have.
Now politicians have to appeal to murderous scum bags.
Prison should be a mixture of rehabilitation and punishment. Neither works purely on it's own. Criminals need to realise that if they break the law, they will go to jail and lose some of the rights that they were previously entitled to. It's simple discipline.

you didn't read the article. it was even bolded for you.
The Daily Telegraph reported that the ban could be retained for murderers and others serving life sentences and that judges may be given responsibility for deciding which criminals should be allowed to vote when they are sentenced.
Now politicians have to appeal to murderous scum bags.
because everyone who goes to jail is a violent psychopathic murderer
Everyone in prison votes the bnp because they get raped by black men and immigrants when they are in prison
Still, my point still stands. You drift from saying no-one should be stopped from voting to saying only people within a certain category should be allowed to vote.
Yeah prisoners shouldn't be stopped because a whole lot of idiots already have the vote
Ah. A step towards democracy. I can only see good in this.
Ah. A step towards democracy. I can only see good in this.
...And a step away from justice.
Screw justice. Murdering has no coherent connection to political opinion.
I don't think this is a good idea, frankly.
i still think voting is a right and for whatever crime you did you will never have it taken away.
in my opinion
...And a step away from justice.
How is this a step away from justice, how are they being punished any less by having the ability to vote?
...And a step away from justice.
not really
I think they should get the right to vote if they are due release within 4 years. Otherwise it's just another thing to add to the list of privilages prisoners get
Rehabilitation is proven to work better than just throwing someone in a bare cell.
Honestly, no one knows how prisons work better than prisoners, so if something is wrong with the system, then prisoners could have a say in it.
I'm sure the victims of heinous crimes love to hear that the man that raped them or killed their child is now free and making a good amount of money with the free job education he got in prison.
It's about time Australia became a democracy.

It isn't a privilege if it's something that was already a right.

The victims are biased. There's a reason we have judges to decide the person's sentence instead of letting the victim do it.

I'm sure those people are bitter and backwards and need to understand the bigger picture. I know how horribly unsympathetic that is and I only wish I cared.
The neo-conservative outlook of FP on the prison system really scares me. "LOK DEM UP AND THR0W AWAY DA KEY THE DIRTEH ANIMULS!"
Grow up.
Agreed, I thought the whole point of prison was that you committed a crime and as such relinquished your rights for the duration of the stay there.
Pretty soon prisons are just going to be long stay hotel rooms. :colbert:
Wasn't there some story a while ago about a prison where the prisoners got a seven course really high quality meal along with like queen size beds or whatever?

Facepunch is full of angsty little kids who have yet to experience how society truly works; their only fallback is the default animalistic style of "justice" that humans are born with.

Everybody knows that justice is black and white silly
All superheroes have it RIGHT
By breaking the law you are forfeiting your right to vote, if you won't respect the rules that society is trying to uphold, why should you be able to change them?
I'm not saying this applies to all instances, but if you've done something that puts you in jail I honestly don't see why you should get to vote, the whole point of incarceration is to keep you separated from society, isn't it?

I like how you inherently assume the status quo is perfectly correct and proper.
