I hate my country's prison system , treating like fucking gods.
Why the fuck can they vote? I thought those rights where given up when they commited their crime.
We live in a democracy, all citizens can vote. Prisoners are still citizens of the country. It really is this fucking simple, I don't get why people have trouble understanding this or have issues with it.
You cannot have a selective democracy.
So neither of these two things have anything to do with the fact the entire world's economy went to shit? The euro was around a few years before everything went tits up in Greece and Germany.
Did I mention anywhere in any of my posts the recession? No.
And yet one of the examples you mentioned was a direct result of the world economic depression...
They willingly broke the law, I don't see why they should be fucking molly coddled for it.
There are prisons up here in scotland where on good behaviour, they let you out for a few hours everyday to work and make some money for yourself, where you can get xboxs and tv's as well.
Do you know how fucking good it is? read this.:

Prison should not be a fucking nice place and it's all loving fuck sticks like you who have made it a place not feared.
Uh wow, you're a fucking psycho, people that commit crimes realize their mistake and don't deserve terrible treatment, they're still humans.
As usual no one cares what the people think, european union and corrupt government just says "LOL LETS DO IT GUYYYYSSS".
The Government is there to protect the rights of the people, the people for some reason will try to take away other's rights.
Agreed, I thought the whole point of prison was that you committed a crime and as such relinquished your rights for the duration of the stay there.
Pretty soon prisons are just going to be long stay hotel rooms. :colbert:
They are in america.
Plus if you are gay you get free prostitution service.
Prisoner's in the UK get better treated than the homeless and the poor hell i know people who said they would rather do time inside, some just so they have somewhere to sleep and get better looked after, its just wrong you break the law you go to jail for PUNISHMENT not to be cared for, basic human decency is one thing but what about murderer's? how can you honestly call some of the scum in our prison's nowadays "human" anyway? fuck they're rights they break other people's rights by doing wrong, what about a person's right to live? to be alive? why should a murderer get rights when he just crushed his victims rights? i hate my fuckin country.
People do not go to jail purely for punishment, they go to jail to be rehabilitated into society so they do not re-offend. If you just punish people they will just continue to do what they were doing previously and put up with the punishment.
you break the law you go to jail for PUNISHMENT
no.
Usually, when you go to jail, you have taken rights from someone else (such as the right to own what you stole, their safety, etc.) so why do you get rights?
because you're still a person
And they were also told who to vote for, otherwise...
But did you ever stop to think why that's the case?
All of the arguments against this law are just people reinforcing the fact that there is horrible false conciousness in society where everyone automatically accepts the values and norms of the bourgeoisie without question.
"But we all must conform to the rules! The rules are perfect! The rules are unquestionable! If you break the rules you are doomed!"
It's actually quite sickening.
"News just in! not breaking the law is now sickening" The law is the norm for a reason, you break it and make everyone else miserable why should you have the same rights? sometimes democracy does not work, if you or some one close to you was damaged by a criminal severely, would you let them have the right to vote?
Fuck Brussels.
"News just in! not breaking the law is now sickening"
I didn't say there shouldn't be laws, I said you shouldn't accept them all so readily.
if you or some one close to you was damaged by a criminal severely, would you let them have the right to vote?
What an irrelevant argument. The victim is biased.
Fuck Brussels.
But the European Court of human rights is based in Strasbourg.
it's called punishment. if you break the fucking law, you get locked up and you learn your lesson

They willingly broke the law, I don't see why they should be fucking molly coddled for it.

and if you commit a crime say goodbye to it, because that's your punishment for fucking up order
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_David_Thoreau
This man broke the law. Would you take away all of his rights for it?
The idea here is that judges now get a choice in who to ban from voting, instead of all prisoners (even the ones who committed fairly minor crimes) being barred.
this isn't some big free world where everybody has rights
People have rights no matter what they do. Nobody has the power to take that away from them, not even the law or the government of a country.

This, if prisons were solely for the purpose of punishment then there would be no reason for letting dangerous inmates out.

Really? I seem to recall something about the democracy of Ancient Athens, one of the earliest and the most well documented ancient democracy: "Only adult male Athenian citizens who had completed their military training as ephebes had the right to vote in Athens. This excluded a majority of the population, namely slaves, freed slaves, children, women and metics."

Perhaps "modern" democracy would have been a better phrase to use.
Perhaps "modern" democracy would have been a better phrase to use.
Parliamentary, participatory, direct? Democracy is just a buzzword nowadays.
i'm getting really tired of these sort of people, saying prisoners should have the right to vote and you shouldn't smack your kids in public
what the fuck does smacking kids have to do with this
are you insane?
If women are allowed inmates should be allowed too
