Because feminists are too busy complaining about sexual portrayals of women in video games.
people want gender equality => "god damn feminists are annoying" for some reason gender inequality still exists => "oh wow feminists really aren't doing enough are they" great post, friend
Ugh, fuck that place. Saudi Arabia is basically a 3000-year-old tribal shithole that got a huge influx of Western money less than 100 years ago. As soon as the oil runs dry, they'll revert back to being a 3000-year-old tribal shithole.

A lot of their princes are wild party hounds and their princesses would put most rich brats in America to shame with their shopping sprees. However, the adults that run the show and oblige their children are a lot smarter. Their accounting and investment strategies are pretty sound - they've been buying up a lot of stakes in potentially valuable future green tech as well as financially diversifying their investments with some good decisions in anticipation of a point in the future when their oil runs out. A common misconception is that they're spending their money now on diamon Mercedes Benzes and sky blue colored Koenigsegg's (which they do), but they're also putting a lot of cash into other things that gives them good returns as well - for example, green tech. This goes for all the arab countries which are rich in oil, except in the case of the UAE which is a little more complex - for example, the Dubai emirate which decided that real estate was the way to go ad that failed spectacularly (but is now recovering very slowly thanks to the more prudent Abu Dhabi emirate which basically owns Dubai at this point). Or Sharjah, which went broke and had to take a loan with religious strings attached from Saudi Arabia. Of course, in their case there are also some rumours that their money to fuel terrorist campaigns also gives good returns, in the form of profits made from drugs being grown from Afghanistan, but this is largely unsubstantiated. The house of Saud will not fade out as quickly as people think when the oil runs out, as long as there are a few sensible princes to ensure they have enough money to stay in political power.
This reminds me of another newsthread here in SH where a woman who got raped got hundreds (could be anywhere between 100-600, I don't remember at all what was the correct amount) of lashes because she was doing sex stuff with another men (I know, pretty fucking ass-backwards) than his husband. She took it to court, and what happened? She got 100 lashes more and her lawyer got his license to do law(yer) stuff taken away.

And in the story your mentioned, it's pretty common in the Middle East for women who have been raped to be accused of purposely seducing other men or having sex with other men. Almost the entire Middle East seems to have a literal "fuck 'em" policy when it comes to women and human rights. Men have it a lot better of course but civil and human rights abuses are common place.

Besides, some of the countries (KSA) arrest and prosecute people for shit like Sorcery. Seriously, check it out and prepare to laugh your ass off at thr stupidity of it all.
Regardless what you think of the laws, it's not okay to assault a police officer. They dont make the laws, they just enforce them.
So, taking women in to be lashed for driving is less bad than deciding that women should be lashed for driving?
You didn't even get close to that many lashes for deserting or disobeying protocol in Starship Troopers You could desert and get a teammate killed and still not close to that many lashes You could desert, get your teammate killed accidentally, and then punch your commanding officer and shit on his desk and not even break 30
This is Saudi Arabia we're talking about here, not the Federation.
