I dont think Argentina should get the Falklands.
You fought, you won, Falklands are yours Britain.
Knowing how 'politically correct' our government is, they'll probably hand them over.
no seriously, what does being politically correct even have to do with this?
It's an outdated map of British Overseas Territories, since we have since seceded those in India, Africa, Australia and Hong Kong.

Our empire shrinks! My Queen, the game is almost over.
Im sure if argentina did manage to fend off the defence and take the island England wouldn't have just said
'well fuck, lets not do anything about that'
Argentina would have likely deported the inhabitants and then we would have had no reason to reclaim them since we only reclaimed the islands because the people called themselves British and stating that they wished to remain so.
Besides we were substantially outnumbered and we wouldn't have been able to maintain a prolonged fight over the Falklands without bringing in Allies.

No, I was thinking more along the lines of what the fuck we just lost a war against Argentina
The government would not have let it stand that the UK failed against Argentina, even if they were outnumbered. Like you said, they would have taken it further and gotten some allies. I think the public would have seen it as another Vietnam kind of thing (despite it being the Argentines invading) and then started to question the government and if the forces are really any good at all. Especially since they were essentially defending the homes and land of British citizens.

England? ENGLAND? OH I'm sorry I forgot when suddenly Britain only comprised of England!
England? ENGLAND? OH I'm sorry I forgot when suddenly Britain comprised of only England!
-snip-
Why are they still going on about this? I thought the first time around it was a strategy by the horrible government they had to distract the people from show shitty their were with a sense of nationalism and shit (which back fired when they lost the war and the people finally rebelled)
My bad, though Im sure the welsh and the scots didn't give a fuck about the island
Oh im sure they didn't when it was Scottish and Welsh regiments that helped take it back. No bet they didn't give a shit.
Edit - Not to mention the Gurkas, Irish and other English regiments.
My bad, though Im sure the welsh and the scots didn't give a fuck about the island
[sp]Northern Ireland is part of the UK as well[/sp]

The Welsh and Scot guards yes, but I'm talking about the people of these countries
Why did you even quote me in the first place, are you just here to start arguments?

Great Britain =/= UK
Fun fact: Falklands never were part of Argentina, the only reason Argentina wants it is because some of their past dictator spent all the money the country had,and to make a distraction for the people to not make a huge rebellion he said that they should invade Falklands because it's "their land".

When people say the British public care about the islands that usually means people from all over Britain who have that view.

Fair enough, but your hostile stance did not need to be taken
Nice addition with the avatar, too I guess
Knowing how 'politically correct' our government is, they'll probably hand them over.
You're seriously suggesting the British government (a mostly Tory one, at that, thus the associated conservative electorate to please) would hand over the Falklands, and essentially the 3000 or so islanders on it (who are British citizens), to Argentina?
What on earth does political correctness have to do with this, or were you just looking for any reason whatsoever to bitch about it, no matter how silly?

Their claim their sovereignty from the Spanish (Formerly French) colony that was established, and their successful colony prior to the British retaking in 1833.

Argentina never established control of the Falklands
Their claim their sovereignty from the Spanish (Formerly French) colony that was established, and their successful colony prior to the British retaking in 1833.
Their claim is inherited from the Spanish - and that's about it. The argument that they also should have the Islands because of their proximity to Argentina is widely regarded as a load of bullshit.

It still is.
It still is.
Yup, we're all preparing ourselves for another Argentine attempt at the "Short, Victorious War". I'll ask my sister who works for the Islands government how the Islanders feel about this latest argentine publicity stunt.
Why can't we just wipe them out, all of them?
whenever the Argentinian government needs to distract the people from how much their country sucks, they bring this up.
[editline]3rd January 2013[/editline]
does anyone notice the UK ambassador to Argentina's name is John Freeman?
Tell that to 1930's Germany.
There's a difference between "We think this should be ours" and "This land has been part of our country for over 700 years"
Why can't we just wipe them out, all of them?
Last time someone attempted to do that they got destroyed

If there's any Argentinian Facepunchers in this thread it would be interesting to hear your opinion.

If I remember rightly one of the few we have on here posted how they disagreed massively with their government and wished they would stop being so stupid.

I was referencing Emperor Paplatine due to the empire strikes back thing but no one got it :(.
My bad, though Im sure the welsh and the scots didn't give a fuck about the island
Disagree, but I'm not particularly bothered if you call the whole thing England.
Really, really strange suggestion Argentina are putting forward.
Basically, follow up a UN agreement from 1965 to discuss sovereignty of the islands, but take the islanders views into account.
UK says that in that case, the islanders themselves should be the only ones to decide.
UN says that sounds fine.
Islanders want to be British.
/end
That UN resolution has already been done!
Selective history doesn't help their cause either. All the 19th century colonialism whinging just doesn't cut it. What about the fact the before then the islands were a colony of Spain? You can complain all you want, but people are settled and live there now, colonialism doesn't exist in the free-for-all it was anymore, and the islanders will make their feelings know in the march referendum.

The Island wasn't Spanish, they had a claim on it because of the pope giving them the western half of the world. Doesn't mean shit though.
