Afghan massacre soldier named as Staff Sergeant Robert Bales

Its funny that we still wage war when we are 100% aware of what happens.
Oh wait, its not the politicians who suffer.
You're just being touchy.
Edit: But seriously. It is the american military and occasionally the british who do this. There is a problem here somewhere.
You act like this is limited to one side, you never hear about anyone but the US and British doing it because the US and British are in the spot light.
And yet noone gives a shit if Taliban shoots up an entire village.
According to the United Nations, the Taliban were responsible for 76% of civilian casualties in Afghanistan in 2009, 75% in 2010 and 80% in 2011.
This hypocrisy is terrible.
And yet noone gives a shit if Taliban shoots up an entire village.
I understand why people get all up in arms about this sort of shit to be honest, we're meant to be over there helping these people out, not snapping like loons and gunning down villages of people. Although over all this sort of shit is rare as hell and for the most part we're doing great things for the Afghans, clearing roads and fields of IED's so they can get back to living their lives and building schools so their kids can have a better future, just a shame shit like this happens and sets us back.

Excuse me I give a shit
[editline]17th March 2012[/editline]
would you it smooth or chunky?
Its bad, but its also understandable with all the shit that goes on there, it can really get to you; you don't know who will decide to whip out an AK And start shooting at your platoon.
Oh, a man goes to a town and starts killing everyone there. And you call that understandable?
Get the fuck out
Oh, a man goes to a town and starts killing everyone there. And you call that understandable?

No one said it is right, he said it is understandable the guy snapped.
Haha I never knew Facepunch had so many U.S. military apologists that are so eager to downplay massacre.
except from eyewitness reports, it was a bunch of drunk bastards who came in and just shot the place up
i believe them far more than the official reports really
Despite the fact that eyewitness testimonies are some of the most unreliable sources of information?
This guy pretty much has to be punished harshly in order to repair relations with Afghanistan. Does not matter what the standard procedure is for when soldiers snap.
I strongly disagree with this and almost feel offended. Fuck afghanistan, it is disgusting to punish someone harshly just to improve relationship with them.
Haha I never knew Facepunch had so many U.S. military apologists that are so eager to downplay massacre.
How is anyone downplaying it? The guy is insane and should be convicted, we are saying it is sad because this was caused by PTSD, which is the fault of a war going on. Reading a thread would be beneficial for you.

Even the russians said when they failed to get a stabile and Soviet Afghanistan it was concluded that they should sort their own shit out first.
I don't get why they had to tell his name to the public? Is that doing any good to anyone? Isn't it only causing harm to his family?
I don't get why they had to tell his name to the public? Is that doing any good to anyone? Isn't it only causing harm to his family?
Because when we send soldiers to a country in the name of protecting the natives from dictators, warlords and opressive butt plugs we should generally know when one of them snaps like retarded twig and guns down the people he's supposed to be protecting.
And yet noone gives a shit if Taliban shoots up an entire village.

Of course they don't, the Taliban is expected to shoot poeple to raise terror so it's really not that big news when they shoot up a village. When a foreign soldier from the other side of the world who's meant to behave and protect the local population shoots up half a village, I can understand the Afghans get really mad. Altough the soldier clearly lost his mind.

SO uh, why are they publishing his name again?
I heard that the guy who did the shooting had been in negotiations with the villagers for weeks. That means that he personally knew and he knew the families of every person he shot.
SO uh, why are they publishing his name again?
Pretty sure when someone shoots up a school or a university they release the name of the perpetrator, I see no difference in the situations.
For those who are defending this soldier giving the "PTSD" label. Think if some pedophile got caught in a sex-sting operation. When he talks to investigators will his excuse be, "but sir I had a brain injury... oh and I'm suffering from a mental disability too.." Nope that won't fly and the same will go to this situation. Remember the guy brutally killed 9 children...
EDIT: Even more sickening that sociopaths are rating this post dumb.

But WHY

In a perfect world pedophiles would be offered help and rehabilitation too. Shame this is a world where people don't care about anything.

You aren't exactly answering my question here though.
Pretty sure when someone shoots up a school or a university they release the name of the perpetrator, I see no difference in the situations.
You keep on going but you still aren't answering to the question.

If the world was perfect every single pedo would offer his or herself to get rehabilitated from a health official before committing horrid crimes. And we know that's never going to happen.
In many cases, rehabilitation does occur only when they're caught. But they shouldn't be let off the hook very easily from the crimes they've committed.

1. There is no brain injury that makes you become a pedophile.
2. No one is saying he should get off.

Why what if they are biased aswell?
Because the official report would obviously be toned down and blame shift accordingly so as to keep Afghan relations. It's much easier to put the blame on one person than saying a whole team of americans murdered loads of civillians.

He murdered 16 people. He should be getting the death penalty or an effective sentence like any murderous subhuman.
1. There is no brain injury that makes you become a pedophile.

1. If you took a basic psychology class you'd know that having brain damage on your prefrontal cortex (which is in charge of judgement/good decision making skills) can change the person dramatically.
2. There are some people saying that he should just get off.
I strongly disagree with this and almost feel offended. Fuck afghanistan, it is disgusting to punish someone harshly just to improve relationship with them.
I'm not saying it is right. I am saying it is what has to happen.
[editline]17th March 2012[/editline]
And I do not really have to many concerns for Afghanistan, honestly. The only reason we are there is to keep them from messing with us.
How is anyone downplaying it? The guy is insane and should be convicted, we are saying it is sad because this was caused by PTSD, which is the fault of a war going on. Reading a thread would be beneficial for you.
its funny that when a member of the military massacres someone there's almost more concern for the mental health of the serviceman than for the civilians that were murdered in their homes. yet somehow there's not the slightest shred of sympathy for, or even an attempt to understand the enemy and their motives.

Well clearly you're the only person who doesn't understand the taliban's motives. Here's a worthy one; they want to beat women into submission and do so through terror, rape and violence. Not only that but you're assuming that the taliban are fighting on the behalf of civilians. The taliban cause 80% of civilian deaths year on year in Afghanistan.

Also I'm pretty sure people feel more sympathetic towards their own countrymen than those in other countries.
my point isn't a defense of the taliban, it's the fact that the taliban is a guerilla group whose recruitment is fueled even more by the fact that we're there, causing damage to their country. obviously the taliban isn't some freedom fighter group that just wants afghanistan to be a peaceful place, but in the end we can't win against them. all of our efforts result in further demolition of afghanistan, which in turn turns the public against us and sends the taliban more recruits to kill us with. and adding to that, in a thread about 16 afghanis being slaughtered in their houses, the majority of conversation is about sympathizing with the mental condition of the soldier who killed them, and not about the 16 men, women and children who were killed for nothing

Boo fucking hoo. He killed 16 people and no one gives a shit. But the minute a 'serviceman has PTSD' everyone is saying he should be treated better, and it wasn't entirely his fault and 'none of you know what it's like'. It's a complete downplay. Don't fucking ignore it. I suggest you read the thread.
