Neither of those games are cancelled and neither are grimdark.
One is about a terrorist movement spurred off by anti-corporation sediments in the United States, the other is about hackers ceasing control of a highly technological world, and using it to their advantage to promote vigilante justice which spurred from a family member getting robbed(or was it killed?). How is that not grimdark? Also, Rainbow Six: Patriots has been noted for being shoved back completely, and possibly having it's entire story rewritten, or having the game under a different IP. Watchdogs might be getting the same treatment. So sorta getting canned on the original stories.
Looks like I'm gonna be getting the next AC game

Watchdogs isn't getting the same treatment, where are you getting your info from?

They had a good vision. They got started, and then the game wasn’t working. So [they had] to start again,” Detoc explained. “There’s an editorial group in Ubisoft, a big group, very influential. If the game is not good enough, they say it’s not good enough. Most of the time, the team will say, ‘yeah, I know.’ But sometimes they want to continue in a direction where you say, ‘no, it’s not going to work.’” “Rainbow had to be remade,” he continued. “Now they’re going to have the benefit of the new consoles, if and when it comes out. It’s one of those examples where you try, it doesn’t work, you try again. If it doesn’t work, we’re not going to bring it to you.”
I'll go with that they could be just simply rebooting it with a different set of controls, but if their giving Watchdogs the same treatment, I am gonna be pretty weirded out by it.
itt: no one reads the OP
More like IDF (in this forum)
I am going to laugh so hard if it's rebranded as an Assassin's Creed game. I can't wait for them to start just turning projects into an annual assassin's creed game every year because they don't feel like starting a new project.
How isn't that grimdark?
That's just Dystopian. Grimdark would be the kinda world where Nazis on drugs somehow make it to the lighter half of the moral spectrum because all the other factions piss on your corpse, then put your soul through a meatgrinder to summon demons from space. Essentially a world without hopes or morals or even anti-heroes, just big and bigger evils.

The name comes from WH40K saying "In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war..." In a grimdark setting there is no good, no hope, no rebuilding, only terrible people and terrible things. That is not what Rainbow Six: Patriots is.
This is Ubisoft's next flagship game I don't honestly see them cancelling it.
Agreed, this is the first decent new non-AssCreed related IP they've had in far too long. They're not gonna bail on it that easily.

Nothing here indicates the game is being rebooted.

Back to the topic of these games getting rebranded and possibly remade(or rebuilt?)
So what would you class it as then?
The usual patriotic hogwash Oh and I guess they added a thin sheen of morality and darkness
I wasn't talking about R6P, I was talking about what you said about watch dogs. Which could really just mean they are renaming it and possibly redoing a lot of stuff for next-gen.

Which could really just mean they are renaming it and possibly redoing a lot of stuff for next-gen.
The abandonment of the name "WATCH DOGS" doesn't indicate it's going the same direction of Rainbow Six Patriots, this was one trademark, not the entire IP. Watch Dogs is already a next gen name and it's been near completion for quite sometime. I mean the game is called WATCH_DOGS so it's not a big deal that they abandoned the trademark "WATCH DOGS"
The usual patriotic hogwash Oh and I guess they added a thin sheen of morality and darkness
I haven't looked into the game much but wasn't it the exact opposite of that, mostly people saying on how subversive and deconstructive it was about it's subject matter. Or I just know weird friends.
They're naming it C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\Common\WatchDogs\Watch_dogs.exe to get that hacking feel
~/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/WatchDogs/bin/watch_dogs What kind of hacker uses Windows?
~/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/WatchDogs/bin/watch_dogs What kind of hacker uses Windows?
They'll just copy paste a few paragraphs off of hack typer and make that the new name
They'll just copy paste a few paragraphs off of hack typer and make that the new name
They'll make the source code the name of the game
I haven't looked into the game much but wasn't it the exact opposite of that, mostly people saying on how subversive and deconstructive it was about it's subject matter. Or I just know weird friends.
Summing up the main trailer: Radicalist from Occupy Wall Street decide to deal with corporate corruption with a sense of vigilante justice, and in doing so kidnap or kill several bankers, lawyers, and just about anyone who is involved with "Wallstreet". Eventually they kidnap a bigshot and his wife and kid, states that if he wants them to live, he is to wear a bomb strapped to his chest. The bomb is meant to be detonated at the Stock Exchange, killing several investors and possibly destroying the Stock Exchange. The members of the "True Patriots" are stopped by about four Police cars on the Brookyln Bridge , and that's when Team Rainbow comes in. By this point the True Patriots are threatening to blow up the bridge, and Police officers are not listening(or thinking its a bluff) and continue to shoot at the True Patriot members. Team Rainbow is given the choice of either killing the officers, or blowing their knee caps out, in order to save the lives of a few hundred people. Fast forwarding a bunch of set-piece shooting scenes... Team Rainbow defeats all the True Patriot members, and gets to the kidnapped Big Shot, they attempt to disarm the device, but find out it's a timed "Dead-Man" explosive, which is going to explode in 15 seconds, they make the decision to toss the man off the bridge, and let him die, and probably his family, to ensure the safety of others. For the most part, yeah its rahrah patriotism, unless you go picking at it.
The abandonment of the name "WATCH DOGS" doesn't indicate it's going the same direction of Rainbow Six Patriots, this was one trademark, not the entire IP. [editline]3rd February 2014[/editline]
https://twitter.com/UbisoftMTL/statuses/430425347570798593 Still getting made.
And out goes my last theory, still want Rainbow Six, but whatever.
lol why
pc master race
it would be really interesting if they mix ac and watch dogs, but its not going to happen at the first game of it, maybe in the future they make something like that.
pc master race
I thought he meant why preorder the game at all. What's even the point of giving them your money so early? The game doesn't even have a release date yet.
First Rainbow Six: Patriots, now Watchdogs... Why does it seem that all cool grimdark games are getting canned?
wait patriots was canned?
~/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/WatchDogs/bin/watch_dogs What kind of hacker uses Windows?
I'd bet money someone uses a windows phone or bing
They did reference ctOS in AC4.
Also the Leader of the Abstergo Game Dev Team Olivier Garneau had to fly off to chicago (the city watch dogs is placed in) for a Abstergo Meeting and disappeared.
