Good to see EA somewhat learning from their mistakes. Nowadays, it seems that Ubisoft is the new EA.
Not a backpedal: "Oh we're not releasing these features now because it's hard but maybe in a patch some time later" Backpedal: "Oh you'know those features we weren't going to add? We TOTALLY are! And like really really soon after release" I'm not an anti-EA guy by any means but it doesn't mean they don't still try to cover up their mistakes. Because they are mistakes. Sure, people get free stuff now. Awesome! But it's still a fuckup.
I'm still not seeing it. They never said they weren't going to add it, just that they focused their efforts on other things.
Ok I was wrong.
Have we sunk so low to think adding basic stuff like pools for free is such a great move from an AAA publisher ?

While I'm not a fan of EA by any definition of the word, but they just cannot win can they? I mean sure this might be a marketing ploy, or they simply took notice of the massive backlash (which is called taking notice of your customers wants), but in the end they listened to the community and gave people what they wanted.
Have we sunk so low to think adding basic stuff like pools for free is such a great move from an AAA publisher ?
one would assume that adding free content to a game is generally a good move, yes
they also released a free update today that adds ghosts, a halloween radio station, and star wars themed costumes
I tend to defend EA, but even I thought pools would be in a paid-for DLC, like "Summer adventure items DLC" or something. That's cool of them to give something so demanded for free. Kind of disproves the theory they took them out for money, too, since it's well, free. :v:
I bet there are small letters everywhere saying the buyer's souls are now property of EA.
Christ, you people are paranoid.
Christ, you people are paranoid.
The third post in this thread literally had "that's what they want you to think" in it.

EA has a strategy of testing dangerous waters with scummy tactics and retracting when the backlash gets too bad. The thing is, they actually know how to limit backlash, see how Dungeon Keeper on mobile was an absolute wreck and their response to basically everyone shitting over them was give away the original game for free via GoG. It's not like I buy any of EA's stuff anyway because quite frankly not one of their recent products has seemed interesting to me, but when they release things for free like the small games they give on origin and such I'm always going to take them. It's a nice move regardless of the reasoning behind it.

This should have been on release or patched in immediately after, instead they're backpedaling and making it free instead of charging like they must have planned. Too little, too late.' With some people, a company like EA can never win.
Woah it's free Just like every major gameplay feature update in Sims 3.
New careers, huh? I'm down for that. One of my major turn offs is having one job available depending on the career you chose, though. We'll see what they do in December.
Christ, you people are paranoid.
Well it's not like EA hasn't lied to, deceived, ripped off and generally fucked over their customers before.
I don't recall "impossible" ever being the case. The only things I've seen are how they wanted to build a stable foundation for the game and that it didn't fit their vision at the time, and all that PR stuff. I don't think they would say it's impossible.
i distinctly remember some article they explained how the glassbox engine physically cannot handle a pool http://www.incgamers.com/2014/08/maxis-explains-why-the-sims-4-has-no-swimming-pools
“But ultimately, it’s more complexity in terms of what tech’s there and what isn’t there, what we have to build to support this. How do we cut down into the terrain, how do we get Sims going through portals across different levels of pools? There’s so much that’s going on in the background that you don’t end up seeing just to have a Sim go swimming.
I have been putting these new costumes to good use
Someone needs to post a quote and source about why they didn't include the pools
To be fair they never said they wouldn't include pools just that they wouldn't be in at launch.
why pools and toddlers will not be in The Sims 4 at launch
(Source : http://www.thesims.com/en_GB/news/whats-out-and-whats-in )
Bring back open neighborhood and CAST and I'm ready to buy.
This strikes me as completely planned. There's no way that EA didn't expect there to be backlash, so they're using this in an attempt to show people that they've "changed" by releasing free updates.
you legitimately think some people sat in a meeting and thought about all the things they could take out of the game to deliberately create a backlash to come back from?? do you sometimes stop to think that maybe the people who make video games are human? fucking 'gamers' man jesus christ
Have we sunk so low to think adding basic stuff like pools for free is such a great move from an AAA publisher ?
It's EA we're talking about.
Christ, you people are paranoid.
When EA Treats customers like a battered housewife it aint hard to see why.
It won't. It's just a response to the backlash. EA being EA.
How dare a games company respond to backlash by giving the fans what they want The hate bandwagon here travelled fast [editline]1st October 2014[/editline] Sorry, but if Valve made a poor design choice that angered fans, and then decided to sate fan bloodlust by giving them what they want, they'd be held as the second coming of Jesus in developer form Can people stop acting like games companies exist purely to lie to everyone and actually take something for granted
I tend to defend EA, but even I thought pools would be in a paid-for DLC, like "Summer adventure items DLC" or something.
That's what they want you to think. If it wasn't for the huge backlash in the first place they would have sold that as DLC.
So there is literally nothing EA could have done to please you. If they didn't release the pools, you would yell at them for removing features. If they released them as paid DLC, you would say "HAHA SEE I TOLD YOU SO LOOK AT THOSE MONEY GRUBBING 1%ERS!!!" And even when they release them for free, you are angry because "they wouldn't have done it if it wasn't for backlash." Literally nothing would have made you happy.
