So Orr and his son left BSA and set out with other families to build a new organization based on what they believe to be Christian values. Orr is a regional organizer who speaks to churches and groups about Trail Life. His son now aspires to achieve a Freedom Award, the new group's highest rank.
Of course they had to call it that.
Re-read that; they don't accept leaders that aren't Christian and they won't accept charters from groups based around a non-Christian organization. This includes Mormons for being heretics that don't believe in the Holy Trinity. Trail Life USA FAQ There is no mention of muslims at all on their FAQ; I would expect it'd be a case of "leave your own religion at the door and smile and nod when we talk about Jesus but otherwise welcome".
Well I can understand why they don't allow Mormons. Mormons are closer to Muslims, if anything. They believe that Jesus wasn't God's son, but rather a prophet, much like Muslims do. [editline]1[/editline] And then they go off into another dimension of beliefs the moment you read about some dude finding giant golden slabs with the word of God under a fucking rock, in New York of all places.
Surely this would be illegal, dont you have anti-homophobic laws against this kind of thing?
Not really. It's a church group, as long as they're not causing any direct harm they can pretty much do as they want.
Then they have the belief that the Garden of Eden was is Missouri of all places. Fucking Missouri. [editline]3rd March 2014[/editline] Have you even seen that place? What a shitty Garden of Eden that must've been, I understand a whole lot now why Adam and Eve wanted out from that :v:

Man, I usually try not to bash on religions just because I think they're mostly a crock, but good God how could you believe that.
I have a copy of the book myself. It's a fucking hilarious read, I highly recommend getting one. [editline]3rd March 2014[/editline] It depends on what version you're getting though. I have an old one and a new one. The old one doesn't talk much about Jesus, but the new one actual calls him God's son, so I was lying a little bit on that last fact, but I'm not joking about the Garden of Eden nor the golden slabs. The golden slabs are a real integral part of the religion too.
it's not like it's anymore ridiculous than mainstream christian mythos
mainstream christian mythos
N'aight ok here's where you get my shit in a basket. Don't use "mythos" when you refer to a religion, of any kind. I say Hellenic Faith, not Hellenic Myths. I say Shinto Faith, not Shinto Myths. Be kind and don't treat every religious person like some backwards barbarian. It makes you look like an asshole.
Oh? So the 'mainstream Christian mythos' tells you that God came from outer space, has a beautiful wife, and will reward you with your own planet to be God over when you die? I'm not making this shit up. It's just as fucking crazy as Scientology.
Have you even seen that place? What a shitty Garden of Eden that must've been, I understand a whole lot now why Adam and Eve wanted out from that :v:
Not as crazy as that one Russian cult that I forget the name of that believes the GoE was on the banks of the Volga.
Another thing to note is that Mormons are not monotheistic. They believe in many Gods. Many, many Gods. Just not in the same sense that we normally do.
Alright, I was raised LDS, and I would like to say that I don't really belive in it anymore. I've seen too many people act like assholes under the guise of helping the church. However, this:
Then they have the belief that the Garden of Eden was is Missouri of all places. Fucking Missouri. [editline]3rd March 2014[/editline] Have you even seen that place? [editline]4th March 2014[/editline]
Another thing to note is that Mormons are not monotheistic. They believe in many Gods. Many, many Gods. "Then shall they be gods, because they have no end; therefore shall they be from everlasting to everlasting, because they continue; then shall they be above all, because all things are subject unto them. Then shall they be gods, because they have all power, and the angels are subject unto them," If you have a copy of the book, look up the section where that verse is from. It quite literally says that you can become god and there are already lots of gods.
Oh? God existing on some other planet is absolutely positively not doctrine though.

Why do people have to be so stupid? I'm Christian, get that outta that way, but why do people make such a big deal about homosexuality? Book says it's a sin, yes, but then again, pretty much everything else daily humans do is a sin as well so who the hell cares?
Yeah, there's some stuff about being god over your own realm. God existing on some other planet is absolutely positively not doctrine though.
It's actually in my book of Mormon Doctrine, as well as I've heard it's in Smith's personal works as well.
I started reading that article thinking "Well, if they feel that strongly about it then making their own scouting thing...." Then I got to the part where their highest rank is the Freedom Award. Oh puleeeze!
"If salt loses its saltiness, how is (the Earth) going to be preserved?"
That's goddamn funny stuff right there, you can't write stuff like that.
Is this fucking real? this feels like a bad dream. Did no one look at that fucking salute and think "hey they look like lil' nazis"?
It's actually in my book of Mormon Doctrine, as well as I've heard it's in Smith's personal works as well.
Give me a direct quote then. Nothing to do with "worlds" interpreted as planets either, because that's a very iffy logical jump. I can almost guarantee you that the Book of Mormon doesn't talk about god being from another planet.
for christ's sake, jesus preached that everybody was good, he had dinner with prostitutes and layed (biblical term for sleeping next to)with the undesirables, you can't justify gays as being amoral and undesirable while at the same time preach it as what jesus would have wanted GET OUT OF MY RELIGION! [editline]3rd March 2014[/editline] oh mormons... figures [editline]3rd March 2014[/editline] seriously something mentioned only ONCE in the bible is considered a sin while shit like... idk greed, polygamy, and all sorts of shitty stuff that's mentioned tons of times in the bible as being wrong is just ignored by the mormons or other christian offshoots
Give me a direct quote then. Nothing to do with "worlds" interpreted as planets either, because that's a very iffy logical jump. I can almost guarantee you that the Book of Mormon doesn't talk about god being from another planet.
Pretty sure a world refers to a planet. I'm going to quote from the book I have on me right now, but if I visit my friend later I can get the quote specifically about another planet: "The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s" 130:22 [editline]3rd March 2014[/editline] Just using that quote for now, but that combined with the surrounding verses really implies that our God was created just like how we can become Gods in the same way through worship. [editline]3rd March 2014[/editline] It's a biblical pyramid scheme :v: [editline]3rd March 2014[/editline] And don't give me stuff about the triniti and the Ghost's spectral form, the trinity is three separate Gods: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. "That these three are separate individuals, physically distinct from each other, is demonstrated by the accepted records of divine dealings with man," according to the Book of Mormon.
N'aight ok here's where you get my shit in a basket. Don't use "mythos" when you refer to a religion, of any kind. I say Hellenic Faith, not Hellenic Myths. He could have said "christian dogma" but mythology/mythos is a touch politer given the tone of the word dogma
I'm not a mod so I can't boss people around, but I'm not sure how arguing if X batshit thing is or is not officially scriptural canon in the Mormon faith relates to Trail Life USA considering the disqualification for Mormon leaders/groups starts and stops at "they aren't Christians." It's sort of taking over the thread, as religious discussions usually do. Thanks for your cooperation, folks.
Yeah, it's getting a tad too off-topic. /endmormon.exe
true that. well, anyway this is a fucked idiotic group and the founders and members of it should be ashamed. it's sad that the children forced into it will realize years later when they grow out of their parents bigoted ideals how a large part of their childhood development was dedicated to segregation.

First of all, you can't honestly believe that the word "world" allegedly translated from a foreign language in the year 1830 is referring to planets. Seriously. Second, yeah, doctrine states that god has a physical body. It's part of some whole thing about how he created man in his own image. Third, the whole thing with God, The Holy Ghost and Jesus is that God is well, God, and the other two are celestial beings that serve their own roles. Not gods. Finally, are you, who can't even remember the name of the Mormon "holy book", really trying to contradict the statements made by someone who has gone to an LDS church for over 10 years? Who was surrounded by Mormons everywhere he went, because he grew up right in the middle of what is the very center of their religion, Salt Lake City? Really? [editline]4th March 2014[/editline] Wait, shit. I didn't refresh the page. Sorry.
Huzzah for being so insecure about your own sexuality that you have to demonize anyone who doesn't share those sexual preferences, and then forcing it on your kids who just want to tie knots and sell popcorn. What Christianity do they follow, anyway? Because I'm pretty sure Jesus didn't go around pulling this kind of crap. It's kind of the exact opposite of what he did in the early Christian mythos.
BLASPHEMY!!! NON BELIEVER! On a serious note though I completely agree what the fuck is wrong with our newer generations now? I say newer because even though it's more accepted it just seems to get worse and worse in the smaller groups that still believe it's morally wrong.

It's a set of laws governing a specific group under specific circumstances. Saying it applies to modern society is like saying Medieval Russian tax regulations ought to apply to the IRS today.
