Ehh I don't understand why people are picking on the price.. These type of books typically go $100-$400, so this doesn't seem too outlandish. e.g. https://www.amazon.com/Julius-Shulman-Modernism-Rediscovered-Vol/dp/3822842877 or https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/3869307927/ref=pd_sbs_14_4/167-7991934-6083636?ie=UTF8&pd_rd_i=3869307927&pd_rd_r=KTHPRQ79VV65RW0E8268&pd_rd_w=2mxgB&pd_rd_wg=4NgNm&psc=1&refRID=KTHPRQ79VV65RW0E8268 What seems bad is the content itself. They could have done so much more... behind the scenes shots, iconic portraits, random bits of interesting trivia, progress shots, unused prototypes etc It just seems so bland.
Those aren't really good examples though, they are collections of books going well over 1000 pages. This is a book with 450 photograps, and judging by the pictures of the book, it probably won't even have 300 pages.

Compare the apple book to the ones you listed. Both of them (the links) have their fair share of text to them. In the case of the first one, it is over a 1000 pages, where as the second 1330 pages. I'd argue both have a lot more work in selecting the photos (the first one for instance apparently was a selection of 260,000 photos). Heck if you want a book of this sort, there is already one for cheaper. It's likely to have more pages and images than apple's book too.
There's also the niche aspects, a lot of textbooks are aimed at a small portion of the population and will have to be rewritten pretty often, so they have to charge more to keep their employees from dying. It doesn't justify them bending you over and penetrating you while wearing a sandpaper condom though, and by that I mean online access codes, FUCK those. There are actually some open source textbooks that address this but uh, only some classes make use of them.
Was kind of hoping for some actual examples
Fundamentals of Machine Component Design (excellent mechanical engineering textbook) runs ~$250. Fluid Mechanics again, ~$250 Fundamentals of Heat and Mass Transfer ~$250 Shigley's Mechanical Engineering Design ~$280 Advanced Engineering Mathmatics ~$280 Physics for Scientists and Engineers with Modern Physics, Technology Update ~$350 Aerodynamics, Introduction to flight ~$350
Probably not bad for hard cover high quality full color pages. I pay more for shitty text books.
You probably get alot more content in your shitty text book
If this was like 50-80 bucks and had text to go along with most things explaining everything, It'd be a great product. But at that price point with just promotional pictures, what the fuck are they doing
In France we have this luxury book collection called Pleiad which goes as far as including fucking gold lining in the book's spine. A single volume hardly ever exceeds 60€ in price, and you can get the entirety of Balzac's work for about 700€ - all 20,000+ pages of it. Fuck apple.
Was kind of hoping for some actual examples
In the American education system we've been seeing the rise of textbook prices steadily for years now. It was the $200 textbook of the late 00's, the $300 textbook of the early 201x's and now it's the $400 textbook of today. We're beginning to see the emergence of a lot of much cheaper books but that just drove the access code market and class to book integration to where it is today. It's fucking a scummy, predatory market. There's textbooks for some more specific subjects are are upwards of $700 to $1200 new, and that's fucking absurd. The uni's don't set these prices, it's the publishers. These you can probably find cheaper on Amazon. But, in my experience there's always the ones with those online access code that are only good for one semester or two, and if you're lucky you can buy the access code on its own but it's not always possible. You may be able to find the book for $50 but if the class uses the access code, which it probably will, you're paying full price for a new book. If you're lucky they might sell their codes on their own, and if you're extra lucky you aren't going to pay the difference in code prices. I don't have the chemistry book anymore, it was literally a collection of pages with holes in it to be stuck in a binder btw, not even a real book, but they didn't sell codes at the time and now that Pearson(maybe?) does sell the codes, the codes are still like $200 and the books are used for like $50-100.
Should be a criminal offence to obligate students to buy overpriced garbage to get access to equal education. It is like DLC mentality, but worse because this is not fucking entertainment. We get PDF scripts here.
My entire year of school in the UK I spent about 20-30 quid on like six books, and they weren't even 100% required for my courses. My current year here in the US I spent $200 on just two books, and I bought them used from Amazon.

my textbooks are 200 to 300 dollars but it isn't at all comparable academic textbooks are only this much because its a monopoly and they know people have to buy them, so they can charge whatever they want this is just apple thinking that they're worth more than they are

Apple fans don't want to be bothered with details, specs or anything unnecessary. In buying an Apple product they want the aesthetic and the status of owning an Apple product.
Apple are the most narcissistic company to ever fucking exist
I think Jony Ive has realized he can just do whatever the fuck he wants
Apple: if pretentious modern art manifested itself as a tech company.
imma be honest if i ever find out someone owns this book they will go straight on the dumb-fuck list

Are they really that integral to your class that you can't go without them? I've had one printed in basically every book I've bought but I basically don't know anyone who ever actually used those resources.
Most of the time, the access code is for a platform that you have to use to submit assignments. Shit sucks.
I wouldn't mind if there was a detailed description and ideas and text to go along with it, with commentary describing the ideas. But $300 for pictures with no context is just fucking greedy and absurd.
Apple had to pay designers and a photographer to take a picture of apple products in a lightbox.
If even that, the "photos" could all be renders.

You know Apple you had one very EASY job, and that was to show off your past products like they flipped off the planet and showed it whos boss. BUT somehow you were too lazy to even remotely TRY to describe how hot shit your computers were!
Can it run Gmod?
Its a way for teachers to be lazy fuckers while not teaching us anything. The program is a teach-yourself thing that is auto-graded so the professors don't have to lift a finger while students can spend hours on some problem that isn't even relevant to the main topics in the class. I just google everything if possible.
What a joke. Are you also paying for college on top of that?
I would buy this for my son, it's an amazing good night story.
I swear, Apple could scoop up a fucking speck of sand, put it in a white plastic box and sell it for loads of money because dumbasses would pay a hundred bucks for it
Apple is unbelievably greedy, the sad thing is that people will buy it. Anyone who really wanted it could make it themselves if they tried but the people who would buy this I guess (due to lack of intelligence) couldn't make a book to save themselves
So 300 bucks for a bunch of Google Images search results?
