Ever since Jobs died, apple's just been becoming more and more pretentious. I thought they hit the lowest possible with the Iphone 7 but they managed to go even further.
i mean look at this video

A day ago, people would find this to be a snarky commentary on apple's stupid obsession with minimalism but now it's being presented as an offical video from apple.
It's post ironic as fuck
The way that bloke speaks is so annoying, it's as though he thinks vapid normally over looked garbage is interesting. "This Chair... is... really amazing.. in it's ... simplicity(insert hand gesture here).
All this talk about "assignments" confuses me. Surely you can just do without the access code and excersise on your own?

No Jony, you’re just really vain. You just want people to like you, and I’m surprised at you because I thought you really held the work up as the most important, not how you believed you were perceived by other people.

It's locked away on external websites that require the code
1 word.
Apple
Even if its pretentious, I love the fact that there are peeks at its manufacturing, which Apple is extremely secretive about even with their contractors, showing stuff like how a mac mini is milled out. You won't see most companies talk about this

Hopefully this gets scanned so I can see this stuff, not gonna pay $200 for a book lmao
Nice picture must admit.
Jobs tried so hard to avoid shit like this when he was alive. I worked for Apple while he was around, and it was a stated philosophy of the company that we learned during training.
"The world of premium electronics is already seen as a cloistered echo chamber of intelligent people agreeing with each other and inflating their own senses of accomplishment and self worth. The more we participate in this, the more we alienate those who might fail to understand or give a damn about it."
So when do we hook up a generator to Steve Jobs' grave?
[editline]16th November 2016[/editline]
What a joke. Are you also paying for college on top of that?
Of course we are! Thousands of dollars a semester, ON TOP OF the stupid wastes of fucking trees that only exist for the access code.
Probably not bad for hard cover high quality full color pages. I pay more for shitty text books.
That's because textbooks are basically a fucking cartel.

Holy shit you guys are getting shafted hardcore. Thought it might be a way to save spending or whatever at some colleges, but they shouldn't be able to require you to buy anything, especially when you're paying tuition. Is there some kind of partnership between those colleges and the publishers? I have a hard time believing they're doing this simply because it's convenient or whatever.

some professors write the books required for their own classes and charge out the ass for it too
If there were ever a single object that exemplified Apple (and my hate for them), this is it.
An exorbitantly overpriced, wordless collection of old ad images. Congratulations, you preening twits.
some professors write the books required for their own classes and charge out the ass for it too
We're not immune to that problem, either, but at least you can buy them used or simply use another book if you can find one that covers most of the same topics. That's still some level of bullshit, but it doesn't seem prevalent, and it doesn't require you to spend money on a new book.
I would be a lot more interested in this if it actually had text along with it. Like. I don't know. History behind each product. Specs. Something like that.
I prefer the text that derives from Goodnight, Moon.
Goodnight, iPod G1. Good night, iPod G2. Goodnight, iPod G3. With the last wide charger to be used
Fundamentals of Machine Component Design (excellent mechanical engineering textbook) runs ~$250.
Fluid Mechanics again, ~$250
Fundamentals of Heat and Mass Transfer ~$250
Shigley's Mechanical Engineering Design ~$280
Advanced Engineering Mathmatics ~$280
Physics for Scientists and Engineers with Modern Physics, Technology Update ~$350
Aerodynamics, Introduction to flight ~$350
Mind you, all those books are actually core products of the team that puts them out. They're the marketeable product, the meat if you will.
On the other hand, this book is a marketing piece. Sure one with production values and costs, but apple could sell it at production costs and it would perform what it is meant to perform.

Some badasses do the opposite, they write it so that they don't have to depend on the cartel and give it to their students very cheaply or even free
it's rare though

I wouldn't count them as good examples. I looked them all up on Amazon and noted the price and page count down:
Fundamentals of Machine Component Design, 928 pages, $226.49
Fundamentals of Fluid Mechanics 7th Edition, 792 pages, $236.15 /
Fundamentals of Heat and Mass Transfer, 1072 pages, $255
Shigley's Mechanical Engineering Design, 1104 pages, $279.12
Advanced Engineering Mathmatics, 1280 pages, $211.24
Physics for Scientists and Engineers with Modern Physics, Technology Update, 1616 pages, $344.34
[del]Aerodynamics, Introduction to flight[/del] Couldn't find this one, so I went with this one, 928 pages, $281.16 (It probably is the right one, though it doesn't matter much since it still proves my point)
Using the exact same format on Apples book, it looks like this:
Designed in California, 300 pages, $199/$299
Now. Do you not notice a pattern? The price pr. page for Apple's book is huge compared to the examples you gave. Plus the amount of information in the textbooks is enourmous compared to the Apple book.

Yup. Many of those textbooks are fantastic, and having used some of those textbooks I paid for, I wouldn't have mind paying double for them with their content and how good they were.

I was never saying that the apple book was anything other than overpriced. I just showing some of the textbooks which run for a similar price, and are rather good for their content (some even used in industry for reference). Two posts earlier I even pointed out another alternative to this apple book which was much cheaper.

I should probably in my original reply have stated that they should have to be worth it too :v:
