If you come onto my property to steal my gasoline and make a run for it, we can maybe achieve that if I tackle your fat ass but you'd probably roll away before I could get a strong enough grip to break both of your legs and an arm in the same swift movement.
You're trying to argue for the sake of arguing. The old man stole, got tackled, broke bones cause of it, shouldn't of ran. There's nothing to even argue here other than offtopic arguments how thieves shouldn't get mutilated/beat up. No idea why you're even posting here without saying anything other than "In my world, this is unfair"
lol bda is actually his avatar irl
but no really have you ever pirated anything if you say yes i'm sending dudes to kick your knees in and if you lie and say no i'm sending dudes to kick your knees in you fucking disgusting criminal scum
There is, you know, the small fact he was acquitted.

You're one of those "Would you ever download a car?" people I guess.
Also, the article says he ran and he got caught up to near his car, what is your point?
this thread is filled with awkward shut-ins who were bullied at school, who have a warped sense of 'justice'
I could get a strong enough grip to break both of your legs and an arm in the same swift movement.
Watch it, looks like this guy recalls what the Boss taught him about CQC.

uh no you idiot that's not the point
he stole
and you've probably stolen
it's not hard to connect the dots here bud

As an awkward shut in who was bullied at school, I refuse to be lumped in with these people.
If you come onto my property to steal my gasoline and make a run for it, we can maybe achieve that if I tackle your fat ass but you'd probably roll away before I could get a strong enough grip to break both of your legs and an arm in the same swift movement.
Imagine sitting down and writing this.
Look out guys, looks this guy recalls what the Boss taught him about CQC.
I'm obviously joking about breaking his arms and legs and having a grip on him, nobody has arms that big.
Also, I do not agree with the draconian punishments of cutting limbs/hurting limbs of thieves on purpose. This situation just seems a case of big guy falling on old frail man and frail bones being broken. Then the thief going to the media to cry for attention even though it obviously isn't how he is describing it.
If he got tackled and broke his bones, he deserved it by going to the mans property and taking his things. He brought it onto himself nobody forced him to do it, he deserves it in that aspect. None of the tackling wouldn't of happened if he wasn't stealing from another person, how hard is it to comprehend that part? Bad things happen in bad situations which this was, some big bulky guy chasing you down cause you STOLE his stuff.
What's wrong with you people and not seeing the problem with the story? Does the guy look beat black and blue like real victims of real battering ? No, he doesn't.

Way to generalize awkward shut ins, I'll have you know I find these people a mix between sadly hilarious and scarily sociopathic, all from the comfort of my Doritos stained computer chair

With this single swift post, I'm forced to retreat in shame and abandon my position that body-slamming some old geezer over a couple of bucks worth of gas is an absurd escalation of force.
fp: the forum where spitting at someone deserves a punch to the face, stealing gasoline deserves having 75% of your limbs broken to the point you can't leave your home, and a knock on the door probably deserves a face full of bird shot
what a lovely place

And people seriously maintain that Facepunch is rabidly liberal or aggressively progressive

there was a time that fp really was that liberal tbh
time just makes everyone more conservative

Wasn't just a couple of bucks and it's never just once, try $600 month stolen in form of gasoline. It's a really common problem for people who own trucks, if you ever talked to anyone outside of your room then you might know that.
this guy was unarmed and on the floor when his limbs were broken
that automatically means the guy should stop and his anger is immediately gone
that automatically means the guy should stop and his anger is immediately gone
yeah justice and citizens arrests aren't about venting your anger
Breaking the arms and legs of someone who stole diesel does not sound like justice to me.
While I agree, it does seem right that he was spared jail time with the injuries that he has. I'm not sure if that factored into the sentencing or not but I'm still happy that the guy he was stealing from had all charges dropped.
Again, it's very very rare for people to not be acquitted in these situations.
Only I think about 30 people who claimed self defence as their defence in court have been convicted of assault, manslaughter and such in the past 20 years.
Going to court for these kinds of things is a formality that flags up people who have gone exceptionally far.

Wow I'm p sure you just pushed BDA over the edge, RIP BDA died to epic nerd ownage
It's like all the people arguing with me haven't even read the god damn article. You're all stupid like that big fat american guy(his avatar).
From the article

He said he has repeatedly been a victim of crime at his gardening company costing him £30,000 over the past five years.

That's a lot of money to lose, you might even go bankrupt if it kept up.

Mr Woodhouse was woken in the middle of the night by a text message telling him a burglar alarm had gone off at the tyre yard where he runs his business.
It was dark, middle of the night, he probably did not see the thieves all that good.
Mr Woodhouse drove to the premises where he disturbed two men stealing stealing diesel from his machinery.
Two thieves, he was outnumbered, please tell me more how he used "excessive" force.
He was charged with using excessive force and faced life in prison
They wanted to give the man life in prison for defending his property.
People need to learn how to read before they try to retort with anything. Just wow, and they say that "facepunch is so bad bcuz they support violence qq". No , you think it's bad because you don't fucking read the whole story before replying and assuming things like an ignorant piece of garbage.

The words are "excessive force" which was not the case here, if you bothered reading more than 2 words of every post you'd maybe learn more than the combination of "BDA IS GOOD, EVERYONE ELSE BAD"

Jesus fucking christ.
The man was acquitted in 20 minutes. It's basically a formality to bring him in front of a jury.
This is how our justice system operates, and it works.
What part of this don't you understand you dribbling idiot?

Why did he have to go through it though? What purpose did it serve for anyone to bring a man not guilty of anything in front of the court multiple times?
Not just once, multiple times.
He was shocked to be charged with using excessive force in his citizen's arrest - and hauled to court four times before being cleared by a 12-strong jury at Cardiff Crown Court last week.
