You realize NOTHING about remakes inherently dictates something will be bad
i wouldnt say "nothing" when you're dealing with a really well known franchise there's a huge possibility it's just gonna be a cash grab
i wouldnt say "nothing" when you're dealing with a really well known franchise there's a huge possibility it's just gonna be a cash grab
What exactly makes that MORE likely, though? You really think the connection between remakes being bad is just the fact that they're remakes? There have been plenty of strong efforts made over already treaded territory, within movies and outside of them. People have been re-telling stories for centuries, taking them and modifying them slightly and people have loved those renditions and will continue to do so. If you think the connection between poor remakes is just the fact that they're remakes rather than poor excuses for stories, then you're really not thinking much.
Female Ghostbusters could be super cool as long as there's a proper reason that it's a female-only ghostbusters team.
They could just not give a reason and have the thing happen like 20 years after the original movies so all the original ghost busters are retired/dead and the new team happens to have exclusively women in it. I still don't like the idea of a third movie happening though.
Female Ghostbusters could be super cool as long as there's a proper reason that it's a female-only ghostbusters team.
There was never a "proper reason" for a male only ghostbusters team lol
All that comes to mind is Ghostbusters meets Charlie's Angels.
Ghostbusters + Sex and the City
Ghostbusters + Sex and the City
haha cause there are girls in that show
I see no problem with the idea. Anyone whining is just a pessimist or just mad about feminism or w/e. And three movies in 30 years is not milking.
are you serious? we aren't mad because of "feminism"(whatever that means), we are mad because a. it's not the original cast b. it's a reboot and c. it's not written by any of the original writers. so, not only is this ghostbusters's cast literally the polar opposite of what the original two films had, it's almost 100% certain to be shit to appeal to nostalgia of the brand "ghostbusters" even though the only thing reminiscent of it is the god damn ghosts and proton guns
urgh, i, a man, am hella angry that they are considering making this reboot of a film from the eighties feature not-men there better be a reason these ghost-catchers havent got penises, feig, or you'll hear from... the internet
the quality of this will be 100% dependent on the writing hopefully it's something worthwhile and not something like this

there will be a female slimer, denoted as such by the presence of a red bow-tie in its "hair"
When I saw this, first thing that came to mind was 4 female comedic stereotypes pooling their money together to be recognized as official Ghost Busters as the start of a scam. In english, they actually would "put on a light show and conveniently be the ones to stop it". Then a wrench is thrown into their scam when ghosts actually start showing up. Yeah, it sucks to hear that above and beyond the fact that they apparently are going through with a new Ghostbusters without the entire original crew that such a drastic change is being made. However, we should at least wait until a trailer or something comes up before jumping to conclusions and right away condemning it. Besides, it could have been worse. It could have been like, Ghostbusters Babies/Jr., a CGI Movie where Ghostbusters is given the Muppet Babies(not to say Muppet Babies was bad mind you, just an example of something more ridiculous than Ghostbusters, but they are all ladies) treatment.
I was asking myself how does one modernize a silly 80's movie about some dudes trapping ghosts, but then i remembered that we have a TMNT movie coming out. So the sky's the limit i guess, go hollywood.

Unfortunately everything you said is wrong. Not only has one cast member passed away, but a "sequel" in the form of a video game was already released. There is no excuse for this possibly sexist and exploitative sequel for no other reason than to trick fans into watching this inevitable disappointment.
there will be a female slimer, denoted as such by the presence of a red bow-tie in its "hair"
It could hook up with regular slimer. As long as it's just a joke that appears once or twice and doesn't become a subplot.

My hopes of ever even being interested in this died with Harold Ramis
Anyone that thinks people don't like this idea because it's a female cast is a fucking idiot tbh and completely missing the point
When Bill Murray told "no" a couple of times and the last one was sending them back a scenario cut in pieces - this is a sign.
Can't wait for the porn parody of this - full of lesbians.
I still prefer that idea that cropped up a few months ago. The Ghostbusters were super successful and opened franchises around the world. However they spread too fast and now ghosts are rare, maybe 2 caught worldwide a year. Egon died, Winston entered politics, Peter bought his own island while the company was riding high and has retired. Ray still works out of the New York HQ but his business sense is nowhere near as good as his enthusiasm and they're nearly bankrupt. A good team wants to save the business and awakens Gozer as a publicity boost, but it goes wrong and causes chaos across the planet. There was something about an evil team exploiting the events as well.
Sweet! It's like they must have read my erotic fan-fiction.

It doesn't even sound like they're trying to do the same thing, this sounds very different. Godzilla, Dredd, Dawn of the Dead, The Thing (John Carpenter), The Fly, Funny Games are some remakes that did things differently (except Funny Games but that one's still good) and were remakes. The pessimism is just ridiculous because why default to this whiny judgmental state when all you know is that there will be another Ghostbusters with, possibly, an all women cast? Like, what is so bad about that idea? You liked the last ones, wouldn't you want this one to be great too?

Wasnt there a female ghostbuster in the tv show?
Wasnt there a female ghostbuster in the tv show?
there's one in the "extreme ghostbusters"
If Dredd is not a remake and Ghostbusters with an all female cast IS a remake, what a world...
lmao just because it uses the same comic book character as another movie it's a remake? is man of steel a remake of superman returns? is tasm a remake of the 2002 spider-man? if that doesn't make sense to you then just check what the creator said:
Judge Dredd creator John Wagner acted as a consultant on the film. In 2012 he confirmed that it was a new adaptation of the comic material and was not a remake of the 1995 adaptation Judge Dredd, which starred Sylvester Stallone.
and i never actually said this ghostbusters is a remake, i was only arguing that there's a reason why most remakes are bad [editline]4th August 2014[/editline] you could definitely add "unnecessary sequels" to that too
