everyone should start using red diesel. it's cheap as hell. illegal, but cheap.
steal it from lorries or trains or something, anything to avoid paying these extortionate prices.
I wonder if it'd be better if government ran oil distribution

" As red diesel is widely available in the UK, the authorities regularly carry out roadside checks and unauthorized use incurs heavy fines. Despite this, spot checks have occasionally found as many as one in five motorists using red diesel."
Well if you get a petrol motorcycle you would still have to pay for fuel and road tax. With this, you pay for the bike and insurance, then only have to spend £2 a week for charging it.
Yeah and then if you want to do a 30 mile journey and come back you'll struggle to do it without running out of battery. If you run out of battery you have to FIND a charge point then you have to wait hours for it to charge.
Not convenient.

I have never seen, or been in a car which has been spot checked. Scaremongering.
You're more likely to get caught with no train ticket.
Time to start pissing in the tank.
3$/gallon feels good man
Enjoyin 3.85 a gallon here in good ol' Loudoun County, Virginia
£1.20 to get on the bus (although you can go anywhere on that route but they're all quite short).
£2.20 to get on the bus if you forgot your Oyster card or forgot to top it up.
£2 to get on the train (goes up to £7-8 max, zone based pricing).
£60-70 ish to get on the train anywhere reasonably far away
better public transport? and that's just london, out here in hertfordshire it's even worse. That said I'm not so sure of the public transport costs elsewhere.. but this is extortionate when it used to be 70p for the bus only a few years ago.
£3.95 for a whole days travel anywhere where the bus operates :smug:
I've started jogging to places more......its just round where i live i often take my throwing knife set with me when i do.....trust me if you lived round here you wouldn't blame me.
wunderbar
Everyone stop buying gas.
So many products are made from oil it's not even possible to make a dent as an individual. The entire world economy revolves around using the stuff.
In Victoria (Australia) it costs $10 (6 british pounds) for 10 x 2 hour public transport rides (tram, bus, train) you can go on as many as you want in 2 hours.
I vote we all go back to steam power.

Uh, what?
The system is divided into two zones, the second being the outer suburbs and beyond.
Zone 1 + 2 full fare is $50 AUD
Zone 1 full fare is $30
Zone 2 full fare is $20
For concession card holders:
Zone 1 = $15
Zone 2 = $10
Zone 1 + 2 = $25
Get a bike, drive only when you need to.

I like the idea of a electric motorbike but I'd have no way of charging it easily, so for me and others it's impractical.
Still that bike looks sexy, when I was searching for it the second link in google was a gay bar.

Don't you need to be in the agricultural business to use it? And yeah i can't say in any 'random' stop checks i've had they've checked the fuel tank.

What's your point Gareth?

That electric bikes aren't that great by the looks of it.

Maybe not for an extended road trip, but using one to drive a few miles to work and back wouldn't be a problem.

You must be crazy. I can't keep filling up my tank for that price! (totals up to more than $40)
Wow more than $40 how do you survive?
[editline]10th March 2011[/editline]
About $70 usd for a full tank here.

A hybrid would be nice, it could switch to petrol when the battey is dead, and charge the battery while using petrol.
Interesting. I live in Arizona around the Phoenix area, and we pay only for the first bus and every bus after that we have to take is free for up to an hour or something like that. Maybe your public transportation system actually pays for itself while ours is sucking money?
i got a nice fine for going 5 minutes over on my 1 hour bus ticket, i was still on the same bus where i bought it and it didnt even reach the stop i was heading to so i had to walk for 15mins.

What about LPG for bikes?

Now imagine how far you can get with THAT and how far you can get with one gallon.
As we Londoners say: What's a train?
maybe if you live in north london
tube network doesn't go past zone 2 in south london in great quantities and after that there's very little of it

Is south London the poor district?
If you take the tax (both fuel tax and VAT) off the average price (Using the numbers in that article) is only 32p a litre.
