£1.20 to get on the bus (although you can go anywhere on that route but they're all quite short).
£2.20 to get on the bus if you forgot your Oyster card or forgot to top it up.
£2 to get on the train (goes up to £7-8 max, zone based pricing).
£60-70 ish to get on the train anywhere reasonably far away
better public transport? and that's just london, out here in hertfordshire it's even worse. That said I'm not so sure of the public transport costs elsewhere.. but this is extortionate when it used to be 70p for the bus only a few years ago.
It gets even worse in Scotland, or up here in the North East, at least
Now imagine how far you can get with THAT and how far you can get with one gallon.
Depends on the car. Depending on how my Dad drives his Toyota Avenso Versis (Diesel) he gets between 45 - 56 MPG out of it.
tell me who your getting your insurance from, not even my dad (who drives a 5 year old 2litre and hasn't been in a car crash his entire life) gets it that cheap.
I was talking about tax, my insurance is £650 with 1 years NCB with Churchill
It's alright guys, I'm sure Dave and George will put our tax money to good use!
About £6 more than I'd pay for a gallon a' gas.
i got a nice fine for going 5 minutes over on my 1 hour bus ticket, i was still on the same bus where i bought it and it didnt even reach the stop i was heading to so i had to walk for 15mins.
I don't know how you managed to do that. From my short stint of riding the bus, when they give you the ticket, you can board any amount of busses in the one hour period. Once you are on a bus you can ride it for however long you want. When the ticket expires, the next time you try to get on a bus, they will tell you to buy another one...
Maybe the bus driver stole some money from you? =)
You must be crazy. I can't keep filling up my tank for that price! (totals up to more than $40)
drive more efficiently (coast to red lights, no jack rabbit starts, etc.), carpool, combine trips, etc.
I try driving more efficiently and I'm still only getting about 22.5mpg round town. It's costing me about £60 in fuel to run my car. The government need to step in and reduce tax. Why can't they tax luxuries such as chocolate, fags and booze? I don't mind paying more for my beers and fags, I can smoke and drink less (not that I would) but I need my car, I have to get to work and back. Small businesses need their vans and lorries, these fuel prices are killing small businesses. The government want us to start spending in the shops to boost the economy. How can we do that when all of our money is going on fuel?
Wow more than $40 how do you survive?
[editline]10th March 2011[/editline]
About $70 usd for a full tank here.
shit, I can fill my tank up for like 25
I think he's talking about insurance, tax varies, for a 1.2 litre car it's £125 a year
The fuck is a 1.2 litre car?
My truck has 6 times that, and it still cost less for me to fuel it up here, and my truck takes 22 Gallons.
I get like 12 MPG too.
Oh, its a Diesel F250 if you are wondering.
Interesting. I live in Arizona around the Phoenix area, and we pay only for the first bus and every bus after that we have to take is free for up to an hour or something like that. Maybe your public transportation system actually pays for itself while ours is sucking money?
Do they have the FLASH system out in Phoenix, or is that just a Tempe thing? Also, light rail.

Where you from in Hertfordshire brah? I'm from Harpenden.

that's terrible
how could you even drive that thing
do you have like a 8 gallon fuel tank?

12 gallons, its a very small car
Southaven, Mississippi, USA. I got gas today and it was $3.42/gallon for me. It's not insane compared to what some of you have to pay but still, it was roughly $2.50 in November.
But damn, it takes about $40 to fill up my Altima and because of where I work, Memphis, I put in about $10 into the tank everyday to cover up what I have to use for work. $70 a week for gas. Fucking insane.

Your name has a lot in common with the average Yank truck driver :downs:

That's exactly why, because they know you will still pay for it. An extra 1p per litre means 50p per tank, and 50p per week extra for 30,000,000 cars is £15,000,000 extra per week. So 10p more a litre is £150,000,000 extra a week, you would never get that with alcohol

Granted, when petrol prices rise the government do make a killing in taxes which in turn is good for the economy and reducing the debt. Then the government should be seen to be working FOR the people, not screwing them out of their money. At times like this the government should be taking steps to reduce to cost of fuel, as I said earlier, fuel for most people isn't a luxury, it's a requirement. Sure there is public transport and other modes of transport which aren't as reliable, plus you're also asking people to give up their indepenence. It's comparable to them taxing water or air and hiking the prices to the point where many struggle to afford it. There would be outrage on the streets.
As much as I love my cars and think that the electric car will never compare, I'll be glad of the day when we're not paying a fortune for personal transport and filling the pockets of the dirty, greedy Arab oil barons in the gulf. I'm pretty sure we have the technology to produce a very useable electric car right now but the government would be a fool to allow such a car before milking the public of all their money in fuel taxes...
Either that or the price of electricty will sky rocket in line with fuel prices so people will struggle to re-charge their cars.
Everyone stop buying gas.
Yeah, because people are really gonna ride a bicycle for 30 miles to get to work every day..

get a more fuel efficient car, or ride a bicycle
Yeah, because people are really gonna ride a bicycle for 30 miles to get to work every day..
yeah because most people live that far away from work, and besides that's not that far. riding a bicycle isn't that strenuous.

well a lot of us do, and I don't know about you but I'd rather not add 30 miles of bike riding to my morning routine.

Well the average British car does 12,000 miles a year which is 33 miles a day, and if those are motorway miles I don't fancy riding a bicycle down the motorway
