Bisexual: A Label With Layers; Tom Daley Comes Out as Bisexual, Igniting L.G.B.T. Debate

we should invent the perfect sexual orientation checklist, where you get a twenty page packet listing incredibly specific sexual situations and you rate how much you like them
then you crumble up the packet and realize that labels and titles do jack shit besides get us all worried about what we should call ourselves
One thing I'll never understand is why anyone with any amount of fame feels the need to announce to the world who they're currently fucking and which sex they prefer to fuck.
I can't wait for the day when coming out as a homosexual, bisexual or transexual is looked upon as just as bizarre and pointless as coming out as a heterosexual is today.
Reminds me when my cousin "announced his homosexuality"
Almost no one in the room cared, or already they already kinda knew.
Then he got mad at everyone.
I think a lot of the drama here stems from people loving playing the victim so much and the attention it gets them.
I honestly think most people on the planet don't give a shit what gender you fuck.
When my gay friend implies that my bisexuality is just me being in denial about coming out as gay because I'm insecure about my sexuality it quite honestly infuriates me just as much as when my homophobic friend implied that I needed to choose whether I liked girls or if I liked guys as if I have a choice in the matter. The idea that there exists no middleground is a bullshit assumption.
i think the idea that there is no middle ground just comes from the stigma that has recently started dropping off of homosexuality that you can only be one or the other, either in society or outside it, not in-between. if you are attracted to women you were normal, if you were attracted to men you were queer, but you couldn't be both that just doesn't make sense.
even the LGBT community forgets the B and T sometimes
I honestly think most people on the planet don't give a shit what gender you fuck.
You'd be surprised.
They should change the acronym to LGBt to more accurately reflect how people are treated
More like LGBt.
We should just move to GSM or QUILT BAG tbh.
Or we should just stop giving a shit because the more we change it around and rename it the more ridiculous it gets.

yeah no you're completely wrong. gays are still assaulted and murdered in this day and age
I only want relationships with guys but sex wise both genders are fine as long as they attractive. Does that make me Bi or Gay?
Or we should just stop giving a shit because the more we change it around and rename it the more ridiculous it gets.
I dunno, Gender & Sexual Minorities(GSM) is inclusive of everything, one letter shorter, and better defines the culture I think.
I totally get that it makes things more confusing for people who don't care that much though.
I only want relationships with guys but sex wise both genders are fine as long as they attractive. Does that make me Bi or Gay?
This is one of the problems with LGBT, it makes people think you're either one or the other.
You're just whatever you are, no need for a label.
I can't be the only one here that really despises people bragging or never shutting up about their sexuality, right ? There's very few things that annoy me more than someone acting deliberately gay for the sake of being noticed.
yeah god forbid a flamboyant gay man is acting like that because that's actually his personality right
take a look at the range of personality types that woman show (from outrageously flamboyant and loud to quiet and reserved to bold and assertive) and maybe think about whether or not it's possible for men (straight or otherwise) to display that same range

yeah tbh i hate the whole idea that you can 'act gay'. heteronormativity is like, the new homophobia in a way
[editline]8th January 2014[/editline]
it's like the PC way to be homophobic and it harms people of all sexualities
I only want relationships with guys but sex wise both genders are fine as long as they attractive. Does that make me Bi or Gay?
You're confusing sexual orientation with romantic orientation.
That would make you, if you want to label it, bisexual but homoromantic.

what do you mean by heteronormativity? Like the notion that if your personality is of a certain flavour you must be gay, right? (I guess it extends to profession, choice of clothing, etc etc as well).
I think we assume things like that because the more feminine homosexuals (esp. those with that sort of gossippy-girl way of talking) are also the most obvious - they clearly flout that 'rule' that men should strive to act 'manly'. And as always with a loud minority, they come to represent the entirety of homosexuals.

yeah like, heteros have to act this way, gays act this way etc. it's like the stereotype that lesbians are all butch and gays are all flamboyant, and straight men have to be macho and straight women have to be delicate little flowers etc etc
gotcha, cheers
They should change the acronym to LGBt to more accurately reflect how people are treated
LGBt
more like this by significance
You'd be surprised.
I'd actually disagree with this.
The minority who are against Homosexuality are only so loud because they have a problem with it.
While most people who don't give a shit aren't likely to say anything, because they don't give a shit.
The squeaky wheel always gets the attention.

I don't care about overly flamboyant peoples sexualities, but that doesn't stop it from being very obnoxious

All but one of my friends are some degree of homophobic (from "i don't hate gays i just don't want them making out in front of me" to "kill all fags"). Most of my peers still use "heh heh you're gay" as a joke. I'm apparently living in the middle of this vocal minority, and I'm not even in the south.

I happen to be both some degree of homosexual and very feminine. That's just who I am. Why is that obnoxious?

He's not saying that homosexuality or femininity is obnoxious - he's saying that loud and flamboyant people (men and women, I believe) are obnoxious.

I don't want to watch straight people making out in front of me, does that make me heterophobic?
Just because you don't want to watch people engaging in an act that many consider to be private, doesn't mean you're fucking afraid of them. Frankly, if I'm not the one making out with someone, it's pretty fucking gross to watch. The sounds they make remind me of a dog loudly licking his asshole.

Just because you think an act like that should be done in private doesn't mean you're bigoted in any way.
except the vast majority of people don't give a crap about straight peoples PDA's or are far more angered by gay peoples PDA's. personally i think in regards to both it's a case of, mind your own business if you don't wanna see it don't look
except the vast majority of people don't give a crap about straight peoples PDA's or are far more angered by gay peoples PDA's. personally i think in regards to both it's a case of, mind your own business if you don't wanna see it don't look
That's true. If you're okay with straight PDA but not Homosexual PDA you'd be pretty homophobic. You'd be jumping to conclusions though if all you had to go on was them saying they don't want to see dude's making out.
In my case if I had said that I don't want to see gay men making out in public, I'd be considered a homophobe despite the fact that I'm A-OK with dicks.
Of course you don't have the right to force other people to stop making out, and I would never support a law banning PDA for any sexuality. The point I'm trying to make though is it's really jumping to conclusions to say someone is homophobic solely because they don't want to see them making out.
In my case if I had said that I don't want to see gay men making out in public, I'd be considered a homophobe despite the fact that I'm A-OK with dicks.
I'm saying they're homophobic because they hate gay people and have made that very clear in the past. They just use "I don't want to see gay people doing gay people things" as an excuse to hate gays (one of my friends who says that hates a bisexual kid only because he's bisexual). The fact that I had to explain to them why "discriminating against people for being gay" is a bad thing ("can't they just not tell anyone they're gay??") shows me that there's a bit more going on there than just not liking PDAs.
so what would happen if you took a person who identifyied as a womamn and then game ve them testoreone wouild they still be a woman? this ias a serious please answer me

Yes and they'd probably be incredibly horribly depressed at their new body depending on their personality
ie if they're really super feminine and enjoying being that way, a more masculine body would probs crush them.
when i came out bi to my mom she actually said you cant pick both teams. made me laugh out loud and said okay and after a while she was like meh about it and didnt treat me differently at all.

Getting noticed is how you meet people with the same sexuality and form relationships.
Believe it or not, the way gay people act isn't (and shouldn't have to be) tailored to the benefit of straight people
