technically yes but parliament is also in the city so splitting off would be pointless
Parliament is not located in the city of London, it is located in a separate English town called London that grew around London and eventually became to be called by the same name The city of London is politically separate from the rest of the UK.
I don't think its extreme, London didn't want to leave the EU but is now being dragged down by idiots from the rest of the country, same with Scotland and NI. No shit they want nothing to do with a country that voted widely against their interests. Obviously nothing will likely come of it, but I totally get the sentiment.
As a Londoner, I know for a fact we would be more prosperous without the rest of the UK. We have 15% of the population but 35% of GDP - that speaks volumes. The only problem would be to do with space for people to live in. However, I obviously oppose this kneejerk idea (and I'm not sure how serious people actually are about it).
BUT what about the queen?
BUT what about the queen?
We can make her the head of state of The Seperated Kingdom. England can be a commonwealth nation!
so basically turn london into vatican city
so basically turn london into vatican city
no turn it into singapore with more drugs less caning
As a Londoner, Sure whatever
This would never happen but it speaks to the vast gulf of difference between London and the rest of England. Especially in the actual results. London voted Remain. Guardian interviewed a bunch of random people in London and they were completely puzzled/clueless as to how anyone could be angry about immigration.
The United Kingdom of England without London and Maybe some of Wales.
This is what happens in modern times when people are very upset they do online petitions and rant and rave on social media instead of try some real political activism
Yeah what happened to the good ol' days where we'd chuck bombs at buildings and have gunfights with the local militia?
I've got to wonder- if this did happen, would it still be capital or would another city take over?
I've got to wonder- if this did happen, would it still be capital or would another city take over?
I imagine Canterbury would become the capital; that place has always been the alternative to London when the latter has been impractical. That's why the head of the Church of England is the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Once you remove London, England is really just a bunch of farms with some sunset industrial cities in the north.
The United Kingdom of England without London and Maybe some of Wales.
If Scotland and Ireland team up to become the Celtic States, I could see Wales wanting to be a piece of that. many here saw the EU referendum as being purely about nationalism. So you would simply have the United kingdom of England minus London.
